About Garden House Inn
The Garden House is a charming 18th century coachhouse serving seasonal food Our aim is to mix a traditional and authentic british pub atmosphere with a cosy and relaxed environment to eat a menu of seasonal dishes freshly cooked by our team of chefs. we host a range of real ales, a vast selection of spirits as well as an extensive wine list.
Staff were attentive and friendly. The food was a good portion size and we both enjoyed our meal. The drinks were reasonably priced and the desserts were really nice. Would come here again.
A delicious Sunday lunch, great service
The food was delicious and service was excellent. My only complaint is that the portions were very small for the main course dishes - 2 pieces of grilled halloumi, a few slivers of pear, and some (nicely) dressed salad leaves does not add up to a £13 plate of value.
Terrific spot and great service. Couldn't be better!
Starters were lovely but disappointed with mains. Mince and dumplings really dry and steak over cooked however you did provide another however everyone was finished their meal and made the birthday girl leave most. Coffee was really watery too, but brownies were lovely.
I live very close to garden house, it's probably the nearest pub to me so I keep hoping to have a better experience next time. Unfortunately after 3 consecutive poor meals there I don't think I'll be returning. Over the last few years there has been a couple of changes in chefs/menus and I don't think for the better. Sunday lunch isn't what it used to be and I don't feel the current menu is appropriate for a pub. Also some of the dishes my family and I have tried from it haven't been well executed. The cauliflower steak was bland, sea bass was just ok, as was the burger. We also ordered a child's tomato pasta which looked liked pasta with a bit of tomato paste stirred into it. The service from the girls is always great but the guy who I think is meant to be running the show doesn't have the right attitude for the job, he doesn't cope well with any sort of pressure, such as when it gets busy, and is quite short when asked to deal with a problem. On our last visit I twice overheard him slating customers who had complained to other members of staff, I heard him having a conversation with people at the bar about how people who leave bad reviews need to get a life and could hear him swearing when I was waiting to pay at the bar with my 3 year old. Also no IPA on tap!!
Delicious Sunday lunch and beautiful wine. Lovely atmosphere too. Had to wait quite a while to order drinks /food after being seated, but everything else was spot on.
The food, in general, was very good. However, there were 2 issues: 1 - incredibly slow service. The waiting staff were attentive - no problems there - but 3 Sunday lunches took 45 minutes from starters being finished to arriving on the table. I appreciate that fresh food takes time, but this was slow. 2 - we ordered pork belly. We’ve had it before several times at your restaurant and, every time, it was cooked perfectly. By which I mean the meat was tender and the skin was crisp. On all 3 portions the skin was chewy and undercooked. When I mentioned this to the waiter he said he’d tell the chef. He may have done, but we received no feedback, explanation or apology.
Excellent food and atmosphere as always thank you, all for stepping around Bella the retriever your care and attention appreciated
Brilliant Sunday lunch. Excellent quality and sticky toffee pudding to die for! We will be back
Superb quality food in a friendly warm pub. The menu has recently changed and we were literally spoilt for choice. I chose a traditional mince and dumplings, whilst the husband had mussels and frites. Washed down with a glass or two of white we went home having thoroughly enjoyed a lovely meal. Well done Garden House, you never fail to deliver superb food
Lovely food and surroundings, some great real ale and really friendly helpful staff. What's not to like?!
A great find for our one night in Durham. The food and service were excellent. It was a bit quiet, but it was a cold Monday evening!
I loved the online booking form very quick and easy. The food is always excellent and the young man who waited on us was brilliant just the right amount of chat then left us alone to enjoy our meal. Just one little niggle the food could have been hotter.
The food was very disappointing especially in light of the fact we pre-booked - had to ask for a steak knife and the gravy was cold! Would not return or recommend
A delightful Sunday lunch experience.
Great food and decent drink
We (a family party) arrived for at late lunch with a hungry child. Empty dining room on Good Friday. Service was slow. If bread and water had been provided as soon as we sat down we would have felt welcomed. As it was, the food, when it came, was adequate but not special. The atmosphere quiet except for unwanted canned pop music.
An excellent evening, thank you.
3/4 had fish and chips-tasted of curry in the batter-so therefore not an enjoyable experience.
Excellent service. Food outstanding. Brilliant atmosphere would definitely recommend
As always, friendly helpful staff and the dog was fussed over. Food excellent, nice talking to the cooks too. Thank you
Thank you to Linda & the team for making it a great visit to the Garden House Inn, we will certainly be returning again soon, food & service was amazing!!
