Delightfully retro with great food and service. We regularly drive out from Newmarket for the step back in time that is Gamekeepers. Please don't change a thing!
Absolutely fantastic service and waiter were fantastic. Made our special day perfect. Thanks and we will be back
Great and very unique place. Excellent service. Highly recommend this place!
Lovely food and beautiful setting, we will return and have already recommended to a colleague. Thank-you.
Amazing place, both our meals were really delicious. The game pie was probably the best meal I’ve ever eaten.
Attentive service. Lovely food and venue.
We had a lovely dinner celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary. We married at Settlers 10yrs ago, so it was nice to go back and reminisce. The food was amazing.I can highly recommend The Game Keepers Restaurant.
Everything was excellent & the maitre de was very attentive, even to suggesting courses & playing our wedding song as it was our wedding anniversary.
Only 1-2 waiter/waitress on site to support, took quite a while to get someone orders food and get stuff. Didn't really have service. Food is alright, overall average rating.
The food, service, everything was amazing. We are definately coming back. On-line Restaurant booking was informative and easy to use.
Service was terrible, took over 10mins for staff to even acknowledge us after arriving. Food was very slow to arrive and could be described as average at best.
It took about 40 minutes for a table of 10 to get food at lunch. There was a big function outside and they were apologetic that it took a while. The food was very nice and great value for money. It was decorated very nicely.
The place is beautiful and food was fabulous. 3 stars for atmosphere only becsause we were the only ones there which was a little awkard.
Great night out for the family, plenty of atmosphere and good food.
Had a lovely dinner and atmosphere took us back to an english pub
Great food, great service, highly recommend.
We were seated by the fire but as it is quite a cavernous space we were still cold. Everyone downstairs was still wearing their jackets as were we but not really prepared with our warmest. We were told it was warmer upstairs. Probably a fan above and behind the fire would make a difference?
The entree was very good price, however mains were a bit over priced for what they were, I've chocolate wasn't as chocolate tasting as it should be, food was very good
Thank you for a wonderful dinner for my family and myself. I found the Seafood absolutely delicious. It was for my birthday and it was indeed a very special treat. I appreciate that you went to the extent of making our 10 year old comfortable and happy supplying her with activities and colouring in which was a great time fill. The dinners were excellent. The staff although busy were accommodating. Thank you for an excellent occasion, we will definitely return.
The website clearly states you are open from 10am on Saturday and Sunday. I booked 18 days in advance for 12 people for 10:30am on Sunday 25th February. I received an email confirmation at the time. I rang a couple of days beforehand to confirm and YOU told ME that my booking was for 10:30am and emailed me the menus as requested. All good, I thought. I received an email reminder at 5:20am on the day of the event, confirming my booking for 10:30am. We (11 adults, 1 toddler and a babe-in-arms) all arrived together at 10:35 am (we all walked from my home) to be told that you didn’t open until 11am. When told that we had a booking for 10:30, the young waiter looked most surprised. He appeared to be the only staff member present. He suggested we take a walk around the grounds while he cleaned and set a large table for us. He was extremely pleasant but seemed to be totally out of his depth. We took a leisurely stroll around the grounds and arrived back at the table at 11:05am. We all looked at the menus and decided what food we wanted. Our waiter came and took drink orders (4 x flat whites, 4 soft drinks and 3 juices), but did not want to take food orders, despite the fact that we were ready to order food. He came back ages later to say there was some issue with the coffee machine and would it be OK to have the coffee after the food. We said OK, and he FINALLY took our food orders. This seemed to be more difficult than it should have been. He brought the soft drinks (but not the coffees) sometime later. By now I was losing track of time. Eventually the coffees arrived, but still no food. Sometime AFTER mid-day the waiter reappeared to clarify some parts of the orders. It seemed that NO COOKING had been done, despite the fact we had been at the restaurant for over 1½ hours!! Every time we saw the waiter, someone asked “how much longer?” and we got a vague response along the lines of “not much longer”. At 12:30, the toddler was served his chicken nuggets and chips. At 12:40, I went inside to find out what was going on. I spoke to the young lady behind the bar. I was angry by this time and told her we’d been here for OVER TWO HOURS and had not seen a scrap of food (apart from the nuggets) and could she please find out how much longer. I went back outside and at 12:50 pm (2 ¼ hours after we arrived) food started to appear. Six of us had ordered breakfast dishes (a pity, as it was clearly no longer breakfast time!!), which included poached eggs. Five of these dishes had clearly been kept warm under lights and the egg yolks were set solid and the baked beans/spaghetti on the 2 big breakfasts had a skin on them!! The 6 dishes without eggs were pronounced either OK or delicious. At no point during our 2¼ hour wait were we offered any coffees or soft drinks or juices or ANYTHING to keep us from walking out, which we were tempted to do, except that the waiter was very pleasant throughout and the whole sorry mess wasn’t his fault. When I went to pay the bill, I deducted the $56.50 for the drinks (all non-alcoholic) and paid the full amount for the very late and mostly very disappointing food.
We arrived at 11.10am for a 11am booking and the place was all locked up which closed signs up (these signs weren't changed even when we left). The staff were just arriving (and unlocked the door for us!) which seemed very strange. What if we had arrived on time? The staff were friendly and the food was great. The grounds looked unkept due to a recent change in ownership and not at all up to what we have normally experienced - grass growing out of pavers, branches and debrie laying everywhere, gardens unweeded. We were there for our wedding anniversary (we were married here) so it was a shame to see the grounds in such a poor state. We had mentioned in our online booking notes that it was our wedding anniversary and that we had got married there for no mention of this was made by staff, which I thought was very poor. We will visit again but hope that the grounds are in a better state by then. Overall an OK visit but well overdue for a good look at the place!
There were 6 of us and we all loved our meals. Great setting too
Great food. The new staff need some basic training. The place has all the right things going for it, advertise it more and get it pumping. Been 10 times and always recommend it but concerned it is always empty.
