About Fota Island
Fota Island Resort is one of the most luxurious 5 stars hotels in Ireland and provides a tempting selection of gourmet restaurants with excellent food to choose from, including fine dining at the delightful Fota Restaurant, or more casual dining in the surroundings of the Amber Lounge or The Spike Bar at the Clubhouse.
Afternoon Tea is served daily 13.00 - 16.00
Evening meal was first class in the restaurant. The staff were friendly, efficient and very helpful. I had the prawns for starter and they were absolutely fabulous and the same for the beef for main course.
I booked afternoon tea for 12pm for a group of 10 while but We We rent served until after 1pm. The service was shocking. Slow and wwasnt understanding of The job or services. There was no tea menu. The waitress didn't know what teas were available after telling us there was plenty on offer to find there wasn't the simplest stocked e.g.. Roiboos. I was charged for 11 people though there was only 10 of us to which I had confirmed 10 with staff the day before. We required one non alcoholic drink which came and was amazing! The food was great. The atmosphere was nice. Entire setting was good but unfortunately the service was a huge let down.
Food was great, went for afternoon tea, staff were also great, very friendly however we were waiting an hour to get served the afternoon tea but everything else was fab.
Food in the Amber lounge is average for the price it is and drinks are very expensive. Service very good and rooms are lovely, pity the doors onto the terrace don't stay open, we had to keep them open with the chairs
We went to the outside table at the golf club and it was super.i could not recommend it highly enough. Heaven on earth👍👍
Friendly helpful staff. Large room. Good spa.
Even with a reservation, staff were not expecting us and looked at me blankly when I told them we had a booking and then they said there wasn’t a table set and wanted us to wait outside until they went and set a table. Total disorganization. When we got the food, the sandwiches were not freshly made as the bread was slightly hard. When I booked I ordered one gluten free afternoon tea for my daughter who is coeliac. When her food was put in front of her, one staff member doubted if it was in fact all gluten-free, so he told us that he would check with the kitchen and he came back and said that he was told it was gluten free. We were very shocked that the waiting staff would doubt the kitchen staff capability to provide what was ordered. Then before we left as we had some food left over we asked could we take it home. Two empty boxes were placed on the table. There was no attempt by staff to package the food or take it to the kitchen for the kitchen staff to do it. We were again very surprised with the lack of customer service. We have previously had afternoon tea at other five star hotels and Fota is very far behind all these others and is no way up to 5 star service from our experience. I would not return to Fota based on this experience which was verging on an episode from the television programme “Fawlty Towers”. I did not complain during the visit as we had a visitor from London with us and I did not want to ruin the outing even further for her.
Went for Afternoon Tea with a friend. We were squished into their bar surrounded by families with kids. Served tea in the cheapest basic white “conference room type” mugs. No tea menu, hard bread on sandwiches, as if they’ve been left out too long. Plates not arranged on stand in correct order. Price discrepancy printed on menu VS what was charged/ shown on website. Just not appetizing, not special and not worth the price. €25pp would buy a nice lunch in their very casual bar. Definitely not Afternoon Tea worthy.
Brilliant food and fantastic service
Thank you for a lovely day, food was absolutely perfect, staff are the epitome of efficiency. The atmosphere was brilliant for a very special celebration. Aoife Belle graduated in UCC as a dentist and her day was made extra special as she was recognised and given a special treat . Thank you so much.
We had a brilliant time at the Courtyard lodges - great for families. With a baby, a 3 year old and two grandparents, this was the perfect choice. Playground, grounds, swimming pool, spa and amenities were fantastic. The front of house staff were lovely. Dinner in the main restaurant was lovely. Only constructive comment and it is only a small thing - the food menu in the Amber bar is a little odd for bar food - and quite expensive. Also, it might be a good idea to add a familiar favourite such as chicken nuggets or sausages to the kids menu at the bar. Service at the bar the day we were there for dinner was quite slow and we did have to ask for some things twice, but our experience in the main restaurant and clubhouse was brilliant. The house itself was full of mod cons, super comfy beds and great space. Would highly recommend it to other families for the whole experience and the proximity to fota wildlife park. We will definitely be back!
Backround music required in dining area
The staff were absolutely lovely! Really made us feel welcome and were great to refill our tea when needed. The food was delicious and we were both full after it. I would definitely go back again!
I was disappointed with the product provided. It was more a sugar fest than a carefully thought out and considered afternoon tea menu. Afternoon tea is about sandwiches and savoury items followed by 'sweet' things. A home made sausage roll and/or cheese scone may have been an option to a layer that entailed a scone (normal part of the tea) and a large slab of chocolate brownie, which was then followed by a chocolate mousse, a white chocolate mousse and chocolate ganache truffle. I have had afternoon tea in more than a few locations, both here and in the UK. Fota Island professes to be a 5* establishment and we were extremely disappointed. The service was not up to 5* standard. I also felt that a cafetiere of coffee could have been offered rather than single cups. Thereafter I had to ask for hot milk to go with the coffee on two occasions despite requesting this at the time of asking. All in all I was underwhelmed by the hotel. I have many friends who have visited and indicated that the resort is good. Personally I felt it was a long way short of 5* standard and having come from West Cork would think twice before making the trip again.
Some of the food included in the afternoon tea eg short bread biscuits were soft or stale I felt that the plates were pre made and I do understand that this may be common practice however with tiem’s that can either go soft or stale, these should be made to order!

The food was great, the servers were both attentive and gave us space to enjoy the food. The atmosphere was great and the price was very good value. We had the afternoon tea and we're not disappointed.
Didn't love the self service breakfast was advised wronly on how it worked so therefore the first morning got a cold breakfast and no eggs was very disappointed with this.
I am coeliac and the biscuit that came with the coffee was not gluten free, there wasn’t a big selection of food considering the €25 price tag. Also the latte ordered came out as normal instead of with almond milk, when they brought out the almond latte the milk had separated. The teapot that the camomile tea came in was dirty. The service was prompt though and the setting was nice.
Everything was 5 Star. If I had to make a criticism, it is in relation to how small the press was for hanging up ones clothes. It was extremely small. Otherwise 5* all the way. Thanks.
Our stay at fota island was beyond any expectations we ever could of had .... the staff couldn't do anymore to make our experience the most memorable we've ever had.... we will definitely go back
Incredible value for money. Warm scones, rich delicious desserts. Beautiful view. Very nice staff.
Would not class this as a 5 star. Nothing majorly wrong with our experience - small elements were not up to scratch -it was not a 5 star experience / 5 star service, so I feel it was overpriced.
