Nothing short of superb
The service was excellent, however the afternoon tea itself was only satisfactory. The sandwiches were dry, and the scones were undercooked.
Overall, I was very disappointed with our visit. Firstly, one of our party had very specific dietary requirements. Yes she’s a pain and quite frankly I’d be annoyed at her requirements, but she phoned them in and they hadn’t been passed through to the team working on the night. I booked a table for 7:30pm. 4/6 arrived on time, 1 was 5 mins late and the 6th arrived by 7:45. Everyone was offered a drink on arrival and then when we’d all arrived, about 15 mins later we were seated. OK to that point but then... Our order was then taken about 30 mins later and our first course came an hour and half after our booking!!! We were very hungry by that point. (Bread had been provided). The starters were good, however the mains were not good. The fish was dry, the guinea fowl could have been char grilled chicken and the accompanying sauce for the guinea fowl was mediocre at best. Our “fussy” eater had a bowl of pasta that had no sauce so was very dry. It was pretty much just a bowl of pasta. Regarding your wine list, there is a good selection of French wines, however your New World whites are very restricted (unless you like Chardonnay - there is an abundance there) I would suggest a greater variety would be a good thing to work on. Finally, staff could be more appropriately attentive. Some were over the top and others neglectful. It is a fine balance and one you have not yet mastered. Further training is advised. All in all, the experience was not worth the price tag. I would suggest about 30% over priced. I did not give negative feedback on the night as I didn’t want to make a fuss. I hate giving negative reviews but I hope you will take on board my comments and improve for future clients.
Excellent. This was one of my most favourite mother’s day meals out. Staff were lovely and friendly, food was amazing and we had a great time. Will be going back again to try everything else on the menu 😀
A lovely Sunday lunch. Great friendly series. An excellent restaurant our favourite in Reading.
Excellent, friendly & attentive staff. We'll look forward to our next visit.
Gorgeous food, great service from engaging staff.
My partner and I went here for my birthday and it was just delicious! highly recommend. I am such a foodie and I literally drooled over the food. You won't be disappointed.Nice place for a special occasion, the staff couldn't have been more friendly. Wine great thumbs up, what else.... little birthday cake surprise. I will be going back, even if I visit Reading just for this restaurant!
Our experience started really well, a lovely welcome and attentive staff, service was good, main course was very good. But as it started to get busy, the service went down hill, neither pudding was great, and at that money you would expect it to be at least good. Getting the bill took forever.
Great value lunch menu for such good food!
Superb restaurant. Fantastic, professional and attentive service. Good menu, I would only suggest that the Chorizo and calamari starter needs a rethink - as the Chorizo just overpowers the calamari and the presentation could be better. Eye-watering prices on the wine list but a good selection. Overall, we had a lovely evening.
The dining experience was as enjoyable as on any of our previous visits.
Brilliant experience as always - the staff were amazing and so attentive, but not overbearing. The portion sizes were large for the quality of the food (which is definitely a good thing as sometimes high quality means tiny portions!) They were also very knowledgeable and recommended some lovely wine to go with the meal, and surprised my mum with some 'Happy Birthday' macaroons! Perfect lunch.
Hard sell on Chateaubriand. V nice but not great vfm. Should have stuck to rib eye plan a!
Not many of these restaurants around. Perfect welcome, posh atmosphere, excellent food, experienced staff well knowledgeable about menu. I highly recommend it. I’ll difenately be back.
This was our first and definitely won't be our last, a very pleasant experience
The venu was great The service was so so so didn’t get starters till an hour and a half after sitting down. Food was cold ish. Staff were nice but as it was so busy looked a bit clueless
We had booked the Valentine’s special meal. Bit of confusion on arrival regarding our included Bellini, so a slow start. The Boeuf en Croute was not available as it hadn’t been prepped in time and after being offered a fillet steak instead, we opted for Chateaubriand for 2 which was absolutely delicious. They honoured the £65pp price for 3 courses, bellini and coffee. The food was outstanding. Shame there were not more diners as its a big space and there were only 5 couples. Hopefully, dinner was busier.
The food & service was amazing. We will defiantly be coming back. I would honestly say the best restaurant in Reading
Fantastic food, atmosphere and service. Waiting staff are outstanding, polite and attentive yet not intrusive at all.
Amazing service and great music and atmosphere!
My fiancee and I thoroughly enjoyed our express lunch at the Forbury Restaurant on Saturday. The food was outstanding, reasonably priced and the service / staff were friendly, helpful and professional throughout. We look forward to returning soon.
The wait between starter and main was crazy. It seemed the Forbury wanted to ply us with alcohol inbetween courses! Those whom had christmas dinner complained that the vegetables were hard. I enjoyed all three of my courses, soup to start, fish for my main and creme brulee for pudding. All was well until i awoke at 3am with gripping pains and a very upset stomach for the next 24 hours. The restaurant was half empty as well so no real atmosphere, such a shame.
The waiter we had was very at his job
