Me and my friend had a food infection after eating the read tuna here! The atmosphere and the overall idea of having seafood at a beach in the middle of London is great. The price is also quite accessible. Yet apparently they did not consider (enough) that red tuna need to be fresh and well preserved. After eating there for lunch me and my friend got a food infection that lasted for two days.
Camden Beach was a fun experience to in London and on the beach. The lunch we had at Fishy Business was great food with lots of flavour and good service. Would not hesitate to advise others to try out the pop up restaurant.
The restaurant "interior" (it's actually half outside) was very basic, but I loved all the rest so much I didn't care. The music of the beach also wasn't overbearing so it was actually a nice background. Personnel was really nice and very keen on helping out on any issues. The food was absolutely amazing - best tuna steak I have ever eaten and it was only £20 for 3 courses. Really loved it and amazing experience.
Impecable service and a great holiday/beach restaurant atmosphere. The only let down as the food. The tuna starter was a bit dry and the mackerel paste too. The mains were good although the salad (side dish for the tuna) could do more to deliver a richer flavour. The deserts were great and so was the wine. Overall it's god value for money and is as close as you will be from the beach in Central London.
The waitress tried v hard but was unable to provide us with an explanation of what the mackerel rilllette was. The chef told her it was a 'mash', it was actually a pate. As a gluten intolerant customer (which I stated when booking) the only option for me was to have mackerel pate with the limp salad that was served with it. The seared tuna we had for the main course was not seared at all, but over cooked. The chips we ordered to come with it came 10 minutes later. Not the best meal we've ever had.
We were made to put down a £40 deposit at the time of booking, which is extremely cheeky, since that means you are forced to have a 3-course set menu, even though there is a cheaper 2-course option if you just walked in. The food was fairly average. The starters arrived in little dishes shaped like tins (cute), but I'm afraid to say that one of them, Atlantic tuna (allegedly), did taste like it came from a tin: dry and tasteless as saw-dust. And the starter portions were tiny - and they are £6+. My main of seared Atlantic tuna was a tiny portion of completely cooked-through fish. Do tell you chef what 'seared' means. If you don't really care what you eat though, the location is fun, and you get to watch people hanging out on Camden Beach a couple of meters away. Next time, I will just come to the Beach, and have a pint and a hotdog. Out waitress was lovely, but the usual problem: at the beginning they hover and ask you if you are ready to order every 3 minutes, and at the end when you are trying to catch someone's attention to get the bill - can't find any of the staff for love or money. Bottom line: forget Fishy Business, just go to the Beach.
