About Fat Baby
Fat Baby is a brand new in-house Japanese grill at Night Tales. The concept is based on the hole-in-the-wall style kushiyaki found on Tokyo’s backstreets. The kitchen has former Pitt Cue and Michelin-starred Umu chef Greg Round at the helm, and a strong culinary line-up. Fat Baby will feature a selection of Japanese drinking food favourites including Yakitori (cooked over Binchotan charcoal on a custom-made grill) and the infamous “Katsu Sando”.
Great place, lovely setting and surroundings, great atmosphere, food portions could be bigger tho
The food was incredible!! Really worth every night and penny. Considering it’s outside FatBaby have done an amazing job at keeping the place as warm & heated as possible, still need many layers though.
Despite booking a table online there was no available table. We were seated at the end of the kitchen bar with no heater. No apologies made or explanation given or effort made to get us to a proper table when available. Service was joyless and uninterested - seemed like an attempt at ‘cool’. Food was good but hugely overpriced and portions were tiny - we went for a second dinner on the way home. Stools had nowhere to rest our feet so we were floating in mid air all evening. The worst of wanky hackney.
Headed down Friday night - was pretty full despite being quite cold, service excellent and pretty speedy. The food tasted great, particularly the fried chicken, onlget and quail. The monkfish was also v good, but pretty expensive for what arrived - easily able to spend less focusing on the smaller plates, which is what I will do next time around.
I thought the setting and atmosphere were very cool. Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. It was very basic, not a lot of flavour and although we knew it would come at different times, it wasn't very sequential to how I would have expected. I ordered a side of rice which came 20 minutes after a main which I would have preferred to eat it with. The drinks were nice though.
Incredible venue. The food is also delicious ! I'll be back
The food is delicious and we can’t wait to come back again.
We had an amazing meal, really fun atmosphere. My only complaint that we only got the table for 1h30 which meant that we didn't manage to have dessert. However they did warn us that we'd only have the booking for 1h15 (so we got an extra 15 mins). Definitely will be back and will make sure to get the order through quicker so we can make it to dessert!
Food was intreresting, although the heaters were very hot! Liked the overall feel and music in the background
The usual Night Tales vibe although a little more relaxed than the Shoreditch offering. In a nice location with some other decent bars near by that compliment one another.
loved it! service was a little sporadic but what you'd expect from an opening night. other than that it was brilliant and i would deffo come back!
Venue and food truley incredible.
Overall the venue and atmosphere is great. A couple of things that really need to be improved : glasses - we got the first round of cocktails served in proper glasses but then the second round they brought us small cheap plastic glasses for whiskey and sake cocktails . Also the mackarel dish doesn’t bring cutlery, you just have chopsticks... how to you heat a whole fish filet with chopsticks without making a mess ?
Delicious food with stunning flavour combinations, relaxed atmosphere; the perfect setting for a lovely dinner.
