Afternoon time was lovely and the staff were very friendly and professional, our particular waiter was very knowledgeable on the service that was being provided
Excellent Food and service if a bit pricey.
Service was different, offering to take us straight to our table instead of the usual relaxed manor of offering a drink and view menu's first which we love about Fairlawns dining experience, maybe because we were 5 minutes late? Who knows! My daughter asked if muscles were in her fish dish, she was told no muscles, just seafood broth, her main meal came out in a muscle chowder WITH muscles and extremely over salty. I swapped my meal with hers so as to not cause a fuss or her sending the dish back and her then having to wait and us not all eat together, while I ate it to save spoiling our evening it was way too salty and I couldn't manage it all. Our first bad experience at Fairlawns in all the years and sadly at a time when our daughter was visiting from overseas and her first visit to Fairlawns. She was looking forward to this very much, it was also my wife's 60th birthday. My wife tasted the dish and said it was inedible and to send it back.. but we just wanted to eat a meal together so I endured and we mentioned it at the end, chef tasted it and it apparently was too salty for him too and he appologised. We needed the desserts to restore our palates and plenty of water too. I actually had an upset stomach afterwards from this meal, possibly due to this dish. Not quite our usual Fairlawns fine dining experience sadly this time.
We ate from the market menu, although portions quite small and we all suffered as a result of the high salt content. Drinks at the bar were very expensive £6 for a beer, staff very attentive and dining room ambience was lovely.
We booked for my moms 60th birthday and it was fabulous we all realy enjoyed it and will definatly be returning again
Staff always very courteous. Had a late Sunday lunch sitting and feel the food suffered because of that. Asked for mustard and horseradish only to be told you were out of mustard. Staff then bought mustard to the table and advised that they were out of horseradish.
We had a lovely time - thank you to everyone involved. You made my 80th birthday celebration very special.
I cannot fault the food, service or atmosphere when dining at Restaurant 178. My friends and I had a fantastic meal, and I really cannot wait to return. This was my first visit so I had no expectations but wow the food was absolutely delicious, and all of the staff that served us were polite, well mannered and provided an excellent service. Thank you for such a wonderful evening!
Beautiful place, very polite and welcoming staff, lovely warm restaurant, attentive service. Will definitely be using again. Thankyou
Had a lovely afternoon tea, friendly happy staff, lovely food and excellent service, couldn’t fault it
Excellent meal, great environment. Great service. Overall a very enjoyable experience. Many thanks..
Excellent service all round
Great Customer service; staff were very attentive (checking if refills needed etc.) without being intrusive. Very nice afternoon tea. No time limit pressure; staff were happy for us to stay as long as we wanted. All in all, a very nice experience!
Great night, as usual rely enjoyed ourselves 5 star service 5 star food.
Lovely meal though a little expensive and no set-meal on a Saturday night. Pre-starter compliments of the chef which was a nice surprise and delicious. Good wine list. Very good service.
Really nice afternoon tea, with excellent attentive staff who could not do enough for you
The lunch we had was lovely it was just a shame we had to wait for 45 minutes for our starters. If not for the waiting time I would have given the service 5 stars.
We enjoyed our meal and the evening overall, although did find the service a little rushed between courses , not really allowing you to rest between courses
My opinion can be seen in the stars !
Had afternoon tea which was fabulous lovely cakes and lovely warm scones with heaps of clotted cream. A great assortment of tea and coffee. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Would definately go again.
Very enjoyable afternoon. Wonderfull service from all the staff
Excellent service. Just not so many people asking if the food is ok. We had 3 people in a matter of 10 minuits.
This was the first time we had dined in the restaurant and we will definately do so again. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive without being intrusive. Lovely atmosphere .
Love the Fairlawns we usually book with family , great service, good atmosphere, great food loved our Sunday lunch , we took some friends this time who had never been before they really enjoyed it. We will be booking again for sure. Thanks guys.
