About Emporium Eatery & Bar
Emporium in Napier’s iconic Art Deco Masonic Hotel is a collection of spaces, each distinctive in design.
The vibrant Eatery & Bar offers a variety of menus to suit the time of day, accompanied by an extensive beverage list. Our chef Sara crafts contemporary seasonal menus, wherever possible utilising fresh, local ingredients.
The bar’s Cocktail Lounge with its rich, luxurious furnishings provides a relaxed space to while away the time with friends over a lite bite, a craft cocktail, or a drink from our impressive collection.
The adjacent Emporium Lounge is a most intriguing and enchanting place that captures an era of elegance and grace where guests can dine in more intimate surroundings.
Emporium is just the spot to enjoy Hawke’s Bay hospitality at its best with friends, family or colleagues.
Currently we’re open Wednesday – Friday 4pm 'til late (for drinks, dinner & bar/late night snacks), Saturday 7am 'til late (for brunch, drinks, dinner & bar/late night snacks), and Sundays 7am 'til 3pm (for brunch & drinks).
This stunning building lends itself to celebrations and gatherings, whether it's a conference, special bash for a big birthday, a family reunion, staff function or business meeting. There are several room options available including the suite of Gatsby Rooms, depending on the size and style of function. The availability of premium on-site accommodation in the hotel makes and all-inclusive event venue.
Thank you for a fantastic evening. The meal and service was beautiful and the location was something extra special. Ngā mihi to the team.
Menu is pretty limited in options and very expensive for what you get. Meals are either very small or very large portions. Your waiting staff need to learn to explain the menu better eg. the fish tartare is raw. The menu does not describe the meals that well just the sauces. No salad or vege with meals is disappointing to add to the cost. The petite salad with the fish n chips was ridiculous and the chips way too much on the plate, that is a two person meal. The waiting staff seemed very bored. And the wine is ridiculousy overpriced as well. Won't be back in a hurry. Disappointing - as we wanted to support local with the reopening.
made a reservation via your website and received a confirmation email, but upon arrival discovered you were closed. I had an out of town visitor that I was taking out for dinner so not a good look 0 out of 10 for me :(
Justine was fantastic. As your chairs are rounded it would be good to have hooks under the tables for a lady to hand her bag, it’s not nice having to put it on the floor.
Food and service were fabulous although I think the mains prices are a little on the high side
Disappointed that this restaurant seems to have a policy of putting couples in side tables, reserving better located tables for fours or more. We booked for dinner on St Valentines night well in advance and were put on a side table between a display case with a pillar and a passage. We returned the next morning for coffee, and, although the place was pretty empty, were refused permission to sit anywhere except at the same side table. We left.
The restaurant is beautiful and the cocktails were excellent. Unfortunately, the food and service is mediocre. The bay fish was overcooked and dry. The side order of vegetables were hard. The chef may need to be trained correctly or replaced. The service was poor. The waitress had a bad attitude and did not check on our table or clear anything. I will not be returning and I will inform others not to waste their money here. Management is failing to ensure quality control with product and service.
Food was awful. Drinks were good and staff were great. But the food was awful. I chose pizza which was undercooked and tasteless.
Nice personal, very very delicious food and fantastic good drinks at the bar. If you are in Napier you must go there😀
Food was great and came out very quick. Service was okay, wasn’t greeted on arrival - had to approach staff for a table. Disappointingly was unable to order coffees with our brunch meals due to their backlog. Staffing numbers should be better planned to cater for increased demand on public holidays and days with incoming cruise ships. Overall would visit again though.
This restaurant was full of nice surprises, it far exceeded our expectations. The best broccoli I've ever had - broccoli, for crying out loud! Booked it because our first choice restaurant was full, but I think it all worked out for the best. Really enjoyed it and would highly recommend :-)
Brilliant food and fantastic special setting at the dining area. Thanks
Fabulous atmosphere and service. Great food...there were 7 of us and we had several different dishes- all enjoyed.
A fantastic setting and atmosphere, superb food and wonderful service. Thoroughly recommend when visiting Napier.
Love all our meals. Thank you.
Well preserved gem, we ate in the lounge behind the main bar. Great atmosphere in this beautiful old hotel. Table of eight food cane really quickly and was very good. If I come back to Napier I’ll be back.
Having phoned to book dinner for 7.30 pm I discovered that we had been booked in for breakfast at 7.30 am. The food was acceptable, the service rather slow; I understand it was New Year's Eve but after waiting for 10 mins after my husband's desert was served we just cancelled mine paid the check and left. Given that the Art Deco Masonic Hotel is supposed to be the best in Napier we were disappointed that the restaurant turned out to be a bar rather than the fine dining restaurant we were expecting.
Unfortunately the service was very poor; in a wine country like NZ, the personnel did not understand how a dinner should happen. We got food before we got our wine, I asked a cooler for our white, that was very new experience for the waitres. Any other drinks as well became very late after our reminder. We felt that basic behaviour rules were missing, our kids had done the service better. Luckily we experinced fantastic service in Mission Estate next evening.
A long time favourite. Always great food and service. I particularly loved the beef rending!
We were a group of 5 from Masterton meeting up with two friends from a Cruise ship that we hadn't seen for some years. The Emporium was central for our arrival and opposite to where buses were picking up our two friends for an early departure of the Cruise ship at 2.30. The 7 of us were located in a very pleasant, private area, we were a happy and excited lot. Our waitress was very patient and helpful and the food was beautifully prepared. It all added to help make this meeting of 5 with two friends that hadn't been seen for 9 years, a very joyous occasion indeed. Everything went like clockwork, the meal was served with little delay as the Cruise ship had to leave earlier than anticipated.. Thank you to one and all.
Special of the day, whole baked Tarakihi fish smells very strong when arrives. I know immediately that it is not as fresh as it should be and tell the waitress so. Though it isn't perfect, I did eat it because of hunger but on the second thought I should have sent it back as there's no comment or apologies from the kitchen until asked...via the waitress, the chef insists that it only a day old! The moral of the story is...... NEVER order a special-of-the-day fish dish. Shame, I may have rated the restaurant 4 - 5 stars.
Hi Pason Thank you very much for taking the time and reviewing Emporium Restaurant. To be honest, there isn’t much I can say to rectify your dining experience with us. Our kitchen team work hard to provide our guests with fresh and modern flavours. I know this special well, as I personally brought this fish (whole) the day before you dined, cleaned and prepped it myself. I can ensure you that we only serve fresh fish in Emporium. However, I do appreciate we somehow didn’t meet your expectations on this occasion. Regards Damon McGinniss Executive Chef
Had a really lovely evening
Very disappointed to find you don't serve Pinocolada cocktails of even Malibu. Perhaps you could consider adding these to your drinks list?
Service and food oustanding.
Fantastic food, venue and service. Thank you.
