About El Rincon de Rafa

Description brought to you by Manchester Confidential:

This central cellar bar serves tapas and larger Spanish plates. Almost impossible to find, it was one of the city’s only really authentic European places to eat back in the day and has retained a loyal following for its old school cooking. Contemporary Spanish trends pass El Rincon by as it’s all about the atmosphere, the rustic reds served in brimming carafes and the food to share. Confidential Editor Jonathan Schofield swears by the beans and artichokes, seafood, octopus and rich boquerones. The paella is authentic and the liverish albondigas are straight out of a tapas bar in Barcelona. Book ahead, especially at weekends.

We sampled the finger-licking delight that was chuletitas de cordero; lamp chops with the tried-and-very-true zing of lemon, wine, garlic and parsley. The meat was lean but succulent, and it was a good job my friend wasn't that hungry; I would've gone ahead and devoured chop after chop regardless.
