About Ellisland House Hotel
The stylish restaurant, with its own comfortable coffee lounge, is elegantly decorated but with a contemporary twist. The lounge and restaurant offer morning coffee with cakes and scones, breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinner, including the ever popular Early Bird Menu as well as our famous Sunday Carvery.
We had a booking for Sunday lunch for 4 of us, the first issue was how close the tables were, I was wedged in by the chair at the side of me and we could all hear the conversations around us. We then had to wait for drinks order to be taken and eventually our food order was taken, after 40mins we received our starters, we only had two so I have no idea the cause of delay! The main course then took 50 mins to be brought out and this was after tracking down a member of waiting staff, they seemed to be thin on ground, two of us were having carvery so again only 2 meals had to be plated but one of those was actually cold and had to be returned. The carvery didn’t look very inviting with the meat looking very dry and the vegetables the same and was very disappointing. At no time did anyone come near to ask if everything was satisfactory or if we needed anything else. We tried hard to get a bill from someone so eventually went to desk to pay, by this point our Sunday lunch had been well and truly ruined. I was so angry I asked to speak to a manager or someone in charge. A lady then arrived and her first words were is there a problem, I then explained about the issues especially regarding poor service to this she replied ‘what do you expect me to do about that I’m through front of house and can’t be expected to be everywhere” I was shocked at this response from a member of staff within a high class chain of hotels, I was also told that they didn’t have a manager employed at ellisland at moment to which I replied that the customers should not be caught up in the companies problems but should be getting a decent level of service when paying for care and attention. When I said I wouldn’t ever be back she then reduced the bill and hoped that we would take this as a one off, I have never complained in any restaurant before and we eat out regularly but felt so strong about our lunch being ruined and we weren’t the only ones, that I had to. I also asked for my complaint to be made known at head office and as they had both my email address and telephone number I would expect a response, but as yet nothing. This is certainly a disappointing decline within this hotel
First visit. Excellent Sunday lunch (regular menu) and would definitely return.
I had the macaroni cheese. Portion size should have been ‘significantly’ larger. Barely covered bottom of plate. This is a comparison to the size of the salmon dish/carvary and related cost!!!!!
The main meal was ok if a little bland. The dessert of profiteroles was hard, stale and inedible. The service was very slow as there did not appear to enough staff. There was a wall mounted television in the dining room which was turned on which I found unacceptable and very crass. The person in charge was not friendly or welcoming and was less than impressed when I told her just how awful and inedible the dessert was. She did however remove that item from our bill. All in all we were not impressed and will not be returning in the foreseeable future.
Excellent food and good value
Myself and my husband and 2 kids regularly eat at the ellisland. The boys are very fussy eaters but they always enjoy the food here. The staff are always helpful and friendly.
Good food in lovely setting.
Food, Service and the staff were all first class. An excellent dinner in a very relaxing atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Great venue with food and service to match
Had a lovely meal for my sister's birthday. Food was amazing, staff friendly & service spot on! Can't wait til our next visit!
Food was average, which is unusual as normally this well above average.
Met up with some friends and had a lovely evening staff are lovely
Not convinced all the food was prepared in house, cheese sauce on cauliflower was thinner tha and milk, desserts were very pricey and our cheese order just did not arrive. I doubt we will be back.
Excellent meal and service on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would highly recommend this restaurant.
Found staff very pleasant and cooperative.
Lovely food. Great choices. Very fresh and well presented.
Service was slow but was not an issue as we were not in a hurry. Starters very good main courses no so. Sons sausage and mash (1 sausage was inedible brick hard and couldn't even be cut with a knife). Mash he loved. Steak cooked to perfection, burger and fish special also excellent. Salmon salad slight disappointment, 1 tomato halved small portion of coleslaw and lettuce leaves nothing else, however salmon and prawns were lovely.
We where given 4 £25 gift vouchers as a wedding present...the bill came to approx £42...I gave the receptionist 2 £25 vouchers and was told no money could be given back!.... I can understand if I came into one of the restaurants/ hotels and wanted to cash in the vouchers and told that couldn't be done....but not to be given change was a pain....it meant I used only one voucher and had to pay the difference in cash!....so the only way these already paid for vouchers can be used is if the bill comes to the precise amount or if I give extra cash....dont understand why the receptionist couldn't write a note saying how much was left over into an/ my account? Not happy
Great venue and setting. Would have liked more vegetarian choices. Other than that really good choice and quality.
Normally a great venue but sundays visit poor .. no carvery and waited over an hour for main course .. disappointing on this occasion
Best meal at Ellisland for a while. It's our go to place in Ayr because we love the style and cleanlines and the gardens. Occasionally in the past the meal was not always up to scratch but on this occasion all of our group enjoyed the food. Well done Ellisland.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Ellisland to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our room was beautiful and all staff were warm and welcoming. Our dinner was absolutely delicious and our waiter so attentive. Breakfast was also delicious and our waitress so friendly and helpful. This is our second time staying at Ellisland and we’ll definitely return. It’s absolutely fantastic!
Great service and quality food.
Food was lovely and the service was fantastic.
