About Ellisland House Hotel
The stylish restaurant, with its own comfortable coffee lounge, is elegantly decorated but with a contemporary twist. The lounge and restaurant offer morning coffee with cakes and scones, breakfasts, lunches, afternoon teas and dinner, including the ever popular Early Bird Menu as well as our famous Sunday Carvery.
Although the restaurant was quiet we still had a very enjoyable visit. Food, drink and service was excellent. Will definitely visit it again in the future.
Food was amazing, staff were friendly and attentive! Will definitely be eating out at Ellisland again.
Lovely greeting by staff - delicious food in comfortable surroundings
We tried to book your other hotel Brig O Doon but they were fully booked - I’m rather glad they were! The food is outstanding, the service was very pleasant and welcoming I would not hesitate in recommending your hotel to anyone. Thank you for the experience
This was a 90th birthday meal for my mum, with 16 guests. Food and service were good and the ambience of the room was extremely pleasant.
Excellent meal and service.
We had a very enjoyable evening in February.
Staff were superb.
Carvery good as always. Nice choice of specials. No complaints about anything.
Beautiful meal and very welcoming atmosphere
Lovely visit. Nice staff.
We are regulars at Ellisland on a Sunday evening. We enjoy eating here with its excellent food and friendly staff. The only negative feedback I have re Sunday night was I thought the roast beef from the special menu was an extremely small portion.
Not very nice staff as if it was a bother to them hence didn’t leave tip. Food was average not the usual Costley standard.
Fabulous food in a beautiful setting. We always visit when we are in Ayr and I recommend Ellisland to my friends. The food is wonderful.
Went on 1st January. Had some issues so wasn’t very impressed. We had to ask for our coats to be taken from us. Table wasn’t set right. They didn’t light the candle and the music system wasn’t working right so played for a few minutes then went off and this continued the whole time we were there. Prawn cocktail was a disaster and had to ask for the way it had been described on the menu. They failed with that too. The lettuce they put on my plate was what I would put in the bin as it was all discoloured. No advocado as was supposed to be on the plate and the sauce was non existent. I would have liked to have sent it back again but not easy when you’re in company. I did phone the hotel the next day to complain to the hotel manager. My husband was paying for our family to enjoy a meal all together on New Year’s Day. Not exactly what you expect in a hotel of this standard. In
Good food and service
The staff were very helpful, especially one who got me a cushion for my seat as my back was sore. The seats in the dining room didn't give me enough support. Unfortunately I didn't get his name.
Lovely home cooked food served by friendly attentive staff! Will visit again
The service we received from the young lady in charge was superb. We really enjoyed our evening - was a meal for our daughter’s 21st. Food was delicious and prompt and the young man serving us was lovely! His service was delightful!
The service and hospitlity given by all staff to ourselves and twenty guests was excellent and appreciated by all especially one guest who is very difficult to please.
We would love an option for gluten free beer.
A first class lunch.
The atmosphere and service was excellent and the food was also special. Couldn't have been better.
We had a booking for Sunday lunch for 4 of us, the first issue was how close the tables were, I was wedged in by the chair at the side of me and we could all hear the conversations around us. We then had to wait for drinks order to be taken and eventually our food order was taken, after 40mins we received our starters, we only had two so I have no idea the cause of delay! The main course then took 50 mins to be brought out and this was after tracking down a member of waiting staff, they seemed to be thin on ground, two of us were having carvery so again only 2 meals had to be plated but one of those was actually cold and had to be returned. The carvery didn’t look very inviting with the meat looking very dry and the vegetables the same and was very disappointing. At no time did anyone come near to ask if everything was satisfactory or if we needed anything else. We tried hard to get a bill from someone so eventually went to desk to pay, by this point our Sunday lunch had been well and truly ruined. I was so angry I asked to speak to a manager or someone in charge. A lady then arrived and her first words were is there a problem, I then explained about the issues especially regarding poor service to this she replied ‘what do you expect me to do about that I’m through front of house and can’t be expected to be everywhere” I was shocked at this response from a member of staff within a high class chain of hotels, I was also told that they didn’t have a manager employed at ellisland at moment to which I replied that the customers should not be caught up in the companies problems but should be getting a decent level of service when paying for care and attention. When I said I wouldn’t ever be back she then reduced the bill and hoped that we would take this as a one off, I have never complained in any restaurant before and we eat out regularly but felt so strong about our lunch being ruined and we weren’t the only ones, that I had to. I also asked for my complaint to be made known at head office and as they had both my email address and telephone number I would expect a response, but as yet nothing. This is certainly a disappointing decline within this hotel
