About El Gato Negro Tapas
El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant and bar in an historic converted three storey town house on King Street, in the heart of Manchester city centre.
Founder/chef patron Simon Shaw and his team creates seasonally-influenced dishes, combining modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques while taking inspiration and ingredients from closer to home. Our food is perfectly complemented by a superbly-chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails.
Simple but high quality ingredients, well cooked and beautifully presented.
Absolutely beautiful food. The 3 for £15 lunch menu is a great deal. I had wanted to visit for a while but it is a little out of our usual budget range. The set menu allowed us to experience the restaurants great atmosphere without breaking the bank!
Table was booked for 4.30 for 4 people but wasn't ready until 4.55. When we got to the table it was set for 2 people not 4. The waitress didn't seem to notice so we had to ask for extra cutlery and glasses. Food was much better than service.
The quality of food, atmosphere and service made an excellent lunch experience for our group
Heard a lot about the El Gato Negro so was expecting a lot. First time I have been and must say was absolutely blown away by the whole experience. Can t wait to come back and bring my family.
Loved it. Thanks so much. Will definitely be back. The lamb skewers and the pig cheeks were the highlight.
This is our favourite restaurant in Manchester. The food, drink & service is always great & we would definitely recommend.
Fun to sit at the Chefs table
Hello I have been here on several occasions before, and have always loved it. But as a dairy allergic (cow's mil products) person, the menu seems to have changed and for a Spanish restaurant has far too many menus infused with cow's milk products. I was disappointed. It is easy to substitute for ewe's or goat's milk products, which is typical in Spain, so why not here? Service was great, but I was unhappy.
Our server was excellent and very charasmatic. She was knowledgeable about the food and made our experience and very pleasurable one.
we had an excellent lunch, thank you. our only regret was that we didn't meet Simon!
Absolutely fantastic can’t wait to return
Really enjoyed our visit! Great wine list too!
We had a lovely evening and staff were very helpful and pleasant. It is not a cheap night out as the wine list has little or few under or at the £30 mark. Food was delicious and well presented but at £300 for 4 people (including drinks) it isn't for those on a budget.
Ria our server was fantastic. Small plates just a tad on the expensive side for what you get
Great food, lovely menu!
I was pretty gutted about my experience here to be fair. It took 15 minutes from us being sat down for a member of staff to even come and take a drinks order. I could tell you were short staffed but the waitress didn't apologise for the wait. Can't fault the food, it was beautiful, just the service let it down massively. Shame considering I've heard such good things about the service from friends who have been.
Missing dishes and lack of attention. We had to chase up the bill at end and finally had to go to the till to pay. The staff were friendly but we had to attract them to order and find out about the roast that failed to arrive. An apology about not putting through this dish would of helped.
Never have we eaten tapas like this , amazing food and drinks .our waitress was so helpful. Atmosphere fantastic will be returning as soon as we can
Sat at the kitchen bar. Chefs were so friendly. Food was stunning.
Absolutely delicious food in a very relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing - we didn't feel at all rushed. We did have one item that we ordered not arrive, and the tables either side of us also had some missing items so perhaps there were some issues with communication to the kitchen? Not an issue for us as we had plenty of food and the waitress apologised and took the item off our bill once we mentioned it.
Excellent meal, the best tapas we have had ever!
Top food and couple of hours spent again. Your staff are always helpful and cheery, makes a difference. Prices a bit higher than average but guess thats what you pay for an excellent experience!
1st time at El Gato Negro and wont be the last. Couldn’t fault the experience!
