About El Gato Negro Tapas
El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant and bar in an historic converted three storey town house on King Street, in the heart of Manchester city centre.
Founder/chef patron Simon Shaw and his team creates seasonally-influenced dishes, combining modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques while taking inspiration and ingredients from closer to home. Our food is perfectly complemented by a superbly-chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails.
Great food, slightly pricey
Went with high expectations and was not disappointed. High quality food and great atmosphere. Will be back soon, if I can get a table.
Best restaurant in Manchester. The food is exquisite. Everyone needs to visit
Its the first time we have visited but it will not be the last, of that I know for sure, the 4 of us who dined here will be back again as individual couples and also as a group again. We had been told before we went that this is a great place and the reviews did not dispute that either, but this is a great place, the food is fantastic and the service we received was exceptional. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars for the value for money is that it is a bit pricey but then, this is Mcr City Centre, and you pay more if you want to have quality and this did not detract in anyway how much we all thoroughly enjoyed our night. Thank you to all the people who work here as we had a brilliant & memorable night out with you.
Unreal. Food and Gins
One of the better Tapas restaurants in the UK
Wonderful food, best tapas I’ve had! We did book the table for 9.15pm however, and it wasn’t ready, so we waited at the bar. We waited nearly 45 mins and we hadn’t been seated, when we asked it appeared we had been forgotten! A table was then put together for us, but it was so late by the time we got our food, a few items had run out and there wasn’t even any bread left to have with our meats and cheeses! Apart from all that, and drinks being added to our bill that we didn’t buy, the food was delicious
Another delightful lunch on Saturday at El Gato Negro Delicious & inventive food coupled with friendly, professional service & a buzzing, vibrant atmosphere. The wet, blustery day outside was completely forgotten !!
I was pleased that I asked for a recommendation for a place to eat in Manchester and El Gato was suggested. Great food and wine and the staff were top. I would definitely go again.
Fabulous as always. Even managed to snaffle our favourite table.
Loved everything about the whole experience from start to finish
Great food great atmosphere... see you soon
Lovely food but let down on 2 points. Firstly 2 of our menu choices were unavailable. Secondly a rather poor service. Waitress either too busy or disinterested which meant we had to chase to order and re-request extra water on a couple of occasions. Plus it was such a slow service to the point where we had to cancel deserts and coffees after a 30 min wait, even though we had explained to our waitress we needed to leave at a certain time. Disappointed for a 40th birthday treat.
Food was fantastic . We are at the chefs table and will certainly be returning
Amazing service, amazing food, can’t wait to go again!
Excellent. First visit and will definitely recommend
We had high expectations and were very disappointed. The ham was ok but not as good as some we've had in Spain, the octopus quite chewy, the pig cheeks fairly tasteless. In fact, everything was on the bland side. The wine, a £37 Rioja, was nice but not nice enough to justify its price. The only thing we really enjoyed was the Crema catalana, which was outstanding. Very good service too. But we won't be coming back.
One of the best meals I’ve had out in a while! Amazing food, lovely atmosphere and great service too.
Food was decent but sadly the whole experience didn’t live up to the hype and as for the gin cocktail that was just poor. Would pop in again but wouldn’t go for a special occasion.
This was the first time I had visited since the move over to Manchester and the quality of the food has not diminished one bit and the building and decor are stunning .. Love being able to see the chefs at work as well, great bit of theatre. And as ever, quality and value for money...just try it and you’ll find out for yourself.
Food was outstanding. All 9 of us absolutely loved the food and drink. Service was extremely slow and a bit strange, especially since the whole place was quiet. For example, 2 people ordered chicken thighs at the same time but one came 10 minutes after the other. Potato dishes seemed to take an age compared to others.
Ecstatic to see the pigs cheeks back on the menu and loving the smokey potatoes! Nice one El Gato!
The last time we ate at El Gato Negro it was at Ripponden, Happy to say that Simon Shaw and the team are still producing excellent food and service.
Too expensive, won’t go again.
Never fails to deliver. Great atmosphere, great food as always. New menu items with recommendations from the always smiling very helpful staff. A fab night Thankyou
