About El Gato Negro Tapas
El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant and bar in an historic converted three storey town house on King Street, in the heart of Manchester city centre.
Founder/chef patron Simon Shaw and his team creates seasonally-influenced dishes, combining modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques while taking inspiration and ingredients from closer to home. Our food is perfectly complemented by a superbly-chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails.
Fantastic, will definitely be returning.
Our waitress was great- not too attentive but attentive enough and certainly knowledgeable and friendly enough. The food is, as always, exceptional and as we were sitting at the chefs table we can definitely say a lot of hard work is put into it- we appreciated it. The wine is really good, a bit too good! We will be back again
Amazing place with amazing food
Very nice on the rooftop in the sun but the potatoes were not cooked enough. All other food was very good quality and flavours but it is very expensive. Good wine too.
Fantastic food and service!
The hype surrounding the restaurant led us to be disappointed in service and quality of food. Decent on both, but not worthy of the hype that it comes with
Great food as usual! However the waiter was a bit slow on the uptake. But I think he was new so still be learning. We would have got cocktails for dessert too if he’d been faster!
We enjoyed a fantastic evening in a relaxing atmosphere. The food and drink was great.
Simply brilliant, amazing food, friendly service, can't wait to go back!
Thank you - lovely food
Set lunch for two was fine. Nice room on the first floor with big windows. Food was served intermittently in a random order, (as advertised for 'authenticity') which made it feel a bit like a poorly curated tasting menu. Had to chase up request for wine. Negroni didn't benefit from addition of sherry.
As always - great!
We had a wonderful meal, all the food was delightful but I found the drinks expensive.
Excellent service from Ben. Very attentive and friendly. Food was exceptional as always!
Delicious - best tapas in the north west
Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit. Food, staff and service top class.
The cod croquettes were cold but the remainder of the food was excellent
Excellent lunch, good feel to the restaurant, a regular choice for business lunch meetings or hanging out with friends and family. Good to see some change in personnel including chefs but the quality remains very high. Well done Simon (proprietor).
this was my 4th or 5th visit in recent months. EGN never fails to impress.
My husband and I had a lovely relaxing lunch, while visiting the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition in Manchester.
Amazing food, new favourite restaurant
Food was great, especially the pork belly and the roasted cauliflower, yum!. Would have liked the croquetas and scotch eggs to be hotter.
Great food and drink, lovely venue. Helpful staff. Would recommend
