About El Gato Negro Liverpool
El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant and bar housed in a historic building on Exchange Flags, in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
Founder/chef patron Simon Shaw and his team creates seasonally-influenced dishes, combining modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques while taking inspiration and ingredients from closer to home. Our food is perfectly complemented by a superbly-chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails.
Great atmosphere, lovely staff helpful very pleasant considering the current climate they couldn’t have been better, they are a credit...oh yeah & the food was exceptional, highly recommend, I will be back!
Lovely lunch, great value on the 3 for £15. Particularly enjoyed the squid.
Great service and the tipsy tapas was such good value for money. Restaurant was very loud but that can't be helped and didn't impact on our evening
The food come out over more than an hour and the last two dishes were tepid. The waiter was great in general but got our drinks order wrong initially. Maybe just a bad experience this time out
We were delighted with the excellent, friendly service which ensured a first class evening. Well done, we'll be doing it again!
Really enjoyed my visit. My only concern was the level of covid adherence. Staff didn’t wear masks or visors and there was no track and trace system in place. In other cities they have been very good at wearing PPE and/or letting the customer order via a QR code or app with very minimal contact. This wasn’t reflective of your restaurant alone, this seemed to be Liverpool in general and isn’t surprising the city is due further restrictions.
Fabulous food amazing service, will definitely be back!
Wonderful meal! Made our 30th a lovely night 😊
Good was outstanding
Amazing food and service. Will definitely be back again.
Food was delicious. Tables were set at a safe distance apart. Service was quick. The music was too high in our opinion. The atmosphere was lovely as it was, didn’t feel the loud music was needed. Thank you. Will recommend to friends & family.
Love the food here and the tipsy tapas is great value. The service on the day was faultless :)
Gorgeous food Gorgeous place. Our waitress was so fab and we were never without a drink. The tipsy tapas was amazing value for money
Had a lovely evening, we didnt feel rushed, service was great. My only criticism would be that the veg dishes came out first and we had a bit of wait for the meat and fish...understand that with tapas its nice to graze but would've liked a bit of variety at each serving. Other than that it was a great evening and will be back.
Lovely food and atmosphere for tipsy tapas, only thing that would of made it nicer was an option of beer, not to everybody's taste. Food Fantastic.
one of the best places i’ve been too for a long time ❤️
Felt rushed out of the restaurant, slightly abrupt service which felt out of place in the lovely environment and relaxing atmosphere.
Really good service and food, would definitely go again.
Love the 3 for £15 dishes Delicious food service was great too - sat outside lovely environment and setting with music and atmosphere
Excellent service and it was a special birthday, which was made a fuss of from me mentioning it on the booking. Food was lovely and really nice atmosphere and decor
Lovely staff and great food
Brilliant and delicious!
Great food and friendly staff
We had a brilliant visit with El Gato Negro! From the minute we walked in, the staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was beautiful! We had 5 dishes, and they accidentally brought us a 6th dish which they didnt charge us for and told us it was a gift! We would have happily paid if they had asked us. Cocktails were lovely especially the cava sangria! I would definitely revisit and have already recommended friends to go if they are in the area!
