About El Gato Negro Liverpool
El Gato Negro is an award-winning tapas restaurant and bar housed in a historic building on Exchange Flags, in the heart of Liverpool city centre.
Founder/chef patron Simon Shaw and his team creates seasonally-influenced dishes, combining modern and traditional Spanish flavours and techniques while taking inspiration and ingredients from closer to home. Our food is perfectly complemented by a superbly-chosen range of Spanish wines, sherries, spirits, tonics, beers and cocktails.
Was a lovely meal with great service and the staff were lovely.
Fantastic food. Great service.
Thank you so much for such a lovely afternoon! We were late due to traffic, I called ahead to let the restaurant know and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. They moved our booking to a later time and were incredibly understanding. We had the tipsy tapas brunch, the choice of tapas was insane the food was delicious and the service was brilliant. Thanks again!
Had to ask 3 or 4 times for different things, extra sauce, bread, the bill, then card machine. Brought the wrong drinks twice - no apology offered. Food was good but won’t be returning due to disappointing experience.
Hi Alex, I am so sorry to hear about your experience on Saturday afternoon, could you please contact me at [email protected] at the earliest convenience so I can investigate this further. Thanks Robynn Hughes General Manager El Gato Negro Liverpool
Very friendly waiting staff
Excellent food and service - would visit again soon.
Couldn’t fault our lunch at Gato Negro. Food was perfect as was the service. Every dish we ordered was tasty and got a positive comment. In particular the braised ox cheek and the roasted cauliflower dish. Staff were attentive friendly and totally on the ball. Thoroughly recommend after our weekend visit.
Amazing food, good atmosphere
Really enjoyable lunch, will be back.
Tipsy Tapas is definitely worth every penny, great atmosphere and lovely staff 🤩
Lovely meal in the new location! The only criticism would be the large group from the ‘tipsy tapas’ making the meal a little less enjoyable due to how loud they were, we’d bear this in mind when we booked again to avoid the tipsy tapas times or perhaps try having a separate section for the tipsy tapas groups!
Fantastic food and restaurant.
We had great service. We were there early evening for my Mums 80th birthday and all the staff were lovely. It was our first visit and we'll definitely return.
Whilst the food and service was good I found the deal for the £15 food offer was good the cost of the so called large glass of wine resembled more of a medium size glass was expensive to boot. The electricity kept faulting when we were there, however we were called and informed prior to our arrival The staff also made us aware which was good -overall we found the evening to be good and would come again
We had a great team lunch and the food was great (and very good value for the £15 for 3 deal).
Will definitely be coming back!
Really disappointed. The Manchester venue is our favourite restaurant this one does not compare. Service was slow waited too long for our table despite making a reservation and unfortunately the food is not as good. Such a shame!
Excellent food as always!
Unfortunately we couldn’t attend due to a last minute power cut which meant the kitchen had to close and the restaurant had to cancel our booking. I was quite gutted as it was for an anniversary and we had really been looking forward to trying El Gato Negro! It’s just one of those things that can’t be helped and the restaurant were very gracious and apologetic when calling us to tell us the news. The restaurant also offered to send us vouchers as a consolation which was lovely of them. Hopefully we can book in soon as we really want to try this place!
Reservation got cancelled an hour before we were due to eat meaning we were unable to find a suitable alternative place to eat at such short notice
Everything about this place is class. Great evening and hope you become a fixture of the Liverpool eating scene.
Excellent service from entering the restaurant. Took care of my allergy. Have visited the Manchester restaurant many times first time in Liverpool will definitely come again. My two friends who had never been loved it. Lovely to have water brought to the table and linen napkins. Excellent value for money with the 3 for £15
The food was delicious, atmosphere was lovely. thank you for a great lunch!
Excellent food, the ox cheek was fabulous! Attentive service too!
