Visited spa and then grill room for my birthday with family and friends. Excellent time.
Visited with my family for sunday lunch, this was our third visit to the Hotel's grill room restaurant, always great food excellent service and good value for money. Highly recommended.
Me and my partner came here for our anniversary aswell as staying the night on the premise. we were absolutely astounded by the food we had in the grill room!, My partner had pigeon breast to start and it was just melt In the mouth tender aswell as the Lamb leg that he had to follow, whereas I had the tomato soup which was creamy and smooth and the sirloin steak which was tender. If you are a wine fan there is plenty for you to choose from wether your taste be dry or sweet.
Absolutely love visiting the hotel to both stay and often just dine. Customer service always perfect with staff being very attentive. Food always excellent and great value for money.
Wonderful service good food and a wonderful room this Hotel could compete with some of the best Hotels in London
Great Sunday lunch!
Alles sehr empfehlenswert; waren mit Gruppe da, 14 Personen, kommen gerne wieder.
Young girl was very helpful And friendly - confusion over the package on how the meal allowance works, and not advised if you don’t use it all it doesn’t get taken off the drinks, it states meal allowance not just food. No atmosphere in the room, everyone was whispering as you could hear a pin drop!
Lovely staff, very polite overall good evening dinner.
We arranged a surprise 50th wedding anniversary celebration for my parents at Down Hall. All staff that I had contact with before hand to organise the the meal were fantastic, nothing was a problem and keen to help. I flew over from Australia for the occasion and staff kept the secret amazingly well! On the day, the service and friendliness of staff was fantastic, the food wonderful and well priced. The environment was perfect with a lovely calm atmosphere and of course grounds just beautiful. We stayed over night and the rooms were clean, well equipped and quiet. Thank you for all at Down Hall for making a very special occasion perfect.
Excellent Lunch and service. very enjoyable experience.
Lovely food, great service! Would highly recommend
Restuarant could do with a bit of a make over or a lick of paint. Waitresses were friendly but maybe a little bit too eager to clear plates once we had finished our dinners. I had the pigeon starter and unfortunately found some shrapnel whilst having my 1st mouthful. It was taken off of our bill in the end after complaining but the guy in charge didn’t seem too bothered about what had happened and didn’t even apologise. Put a bit of a downer for the night. Rest of the staff were good. We had a classic double room which was really cosy, bed was superb, bathroom lovely and spacious. Thought the prices in the bar were a bit high, £8.50+ for a G&T I think are a bit steep & £35 for the cheapest bottle of wine also I thought were a bit high especially when we had to keep asking the bar staff for another drink, surely if you’re going away for a night/weekend, you want to be waited on and not keep having to ask for another drink when our glasses were empty? Probably wouldn’t go back again. Which is a shame as the Hall/hotel was a lovely building and kind of sold it too ya on the Internet.
The restaurant was disappointing compared to the rest of the hotel, the tables looked mottled and dirty and the lighting was really bright and harsh. For our anniversary dinner it didn’t feel very romantic. It would have been nicer to have table cloths and softer lighting.
Excellent beef and bread pudding
We had an enjoyable experience in the Grill Room. The staff were friendly and accommodating, from the member of staff who delivered our drinks to the Maitre D’. The request for more jus with my dinner was received well and I was given a small jug of jus to enhance my duck main. Our meal was not rushed and neither did we wait too long for our 2 courses. The main reason for marking down was the disco music from a wedding reception which dominated and drowned the lovely easy listening being piped into the Grill Room. We were acknowledged and thanked for our custom too, as we left.
Great place and very relaxing. Would recommend
Very friendly staff and great Sunday lunch
We have been to this restaurant on several occasions and they never fail to provide excellent service or fantastic food. This is a restaurant where you pay for quality food Cooked to perfection, the lamb is my choice on the main menu. Each dish is not too large, so three courses goes down easily leaving you comfortably full and your taste buds would have experienced what a meal why you pay that little bit more.
Was very lovely staff was very friendly food was very nice will definitely be takeing my mum there
We absolutely love eating in the Grill Room when we stay at Down Hall. It is always fantastic quality and the selection is great.
Friendly, courteous and efficient with modern dining room and the grandeur of an old hall to have coffee in afterwards. Magnificent setting. Thoroughly enjoyed the roast luncheon, lovely tender beef.
The food was lovely untill there was a metal staple in my pudding , which cut my mouth . Spoke with waitress to took it away and served me a new one
Lovely meal, good service and despite large wedding could still enjoy coffee in the lounge.
Service: the staff were unfortunately unfriendly and not at all warm, welcoming or inviting. When we first arrived, we had to wait to be seated, then had to later request a menu as one was not given to us upon being seated. Each time we needed the plates clearing or a new menu (ie for dessert) we had to request this rather than the staff doing this naturally as would usually happen in a restaurant. Food: the food was expensive for what we received. I ordered the tomato salad to start which said it came with blood orange and olives. When in fact what actually arrived was a plate of two tomatoes cut up with basil. The sea bass main lacked any flavour and the potatoes were rock solid. The dessert (strawberry meringue) was the best part of the meal but was very small. For the prices, the meals need to be better in terms of taste. The presentation was good, but if you’re going to serve a small delicate portion you need to ensure that each mouthful is delicious. When it’s bland you come away thinking it was just a tiny, bland meal. A shame and a real let down when the hotel room was delightful.
