About Don't Tell The Duke
Don’t Tell The Duke is a hub for the local community. Open from early morning we will be serving brunch such as our infamous runny wild boar scotch duck egg with crispy bacon on sourdough and tangy tomato relish (the earlybird really does catch the worm!) And, of course, everyone needs that grand cuppa coffee to kick them in to second gear first thing. We serve food from 11am right through until 9pm every day. So whether you are after light veggie options and just avoiding carbs for a few days, we have plenty to keep you occupied.
Our bar area has a capacity of 45 guests and is open until 12am at weekends where we will be offering interactive and quirky cocktails, 14 draft beers along with gin aplenty and 65 bottles of the ol’ plonk. There is also an in house DJ who plays 80s and D.I.S.C.O classics every Friday from 8:30-12:30am.
So we’d like to think we can offer something for everyone, we’ve even dropped some of our prices without compromising on quality but shhhhh...Don’t Tell The Duke.
Our Commercial ‘About Us’ Brief in a nutshell would be:- we are a unique day and night time haunt to service the locals of North Leeds with Innovative dishes and opulent cocktails- Wow, I pretty much sold my soul there.
Great tasting rare breed Yorkshire Beef done right!
You’ll struggle to find a better Sunday lunch anywhere. First class!! Sunday sharing Board is amazing
Hi I thought I would fill this in and give my true opinion. When given the menu lots of things weren’t available, I have come to a steak bar and no fillet available. When the food arrived two of us didn’t get a plate for nearly 5mins after, the chateubriene was getting cold, the door open behind me letting the cold in didn’t help! The blue cheese sauce was just slightly warm. Basically there is a slab of meat on a plate and nothing else, no sides to dress the plate up, an option Of salad or vegetables would of been really nice as a side order. You can order a sauce or chips !! one of us ordered Parmesan truffle oil chive chips, when arrived there was no parmasan no chives, the waitress did take these back and return what was ordered. Three starters, four mains, one bottle wine all came to £181.00. We all left and were very disappointed. We came here for the second time, the last was a year ago which was so much better. Unfortunately the menu choice we had, the lack of vegetables and the cost we don’t plan to visit again. Sorry
Fantastic service from restaurant staff, always polite and helpful. Best steak in Yorkshire
The quality and presentation of food and drink, service, ambiance and attention are second to none. Highly recommended and we will dine there again soon.
I will be honest, I was quite disappointed with our visit, I booked this place to celebrate my mums 50th on a Sunday evening. I didn’t realise this would mean there would be limited choice of food. The staff were in the process of a changeover and to be honest, the service was quite poor overall. We ordered 2 x chicken starters and originally only 1 showed up. When they brought the second, the chicken was raw and pink inside - this then put me off eating the replacement anyway. We then recieved our bill which had £16 of ‘free’ drinks on there so I then had to go up to the counter and ask why this was. Perhaps I had higher expectations, as the food was delicious but I do expect more service wise from a place with such an amazing reputation. I wouldn’t rush back in a hurry unfortunately. I would like to thank the young man who sorted all of this issues out for us however, he was lovely and his attention to detail was not unnoticed, he would be one of the reasons we had would give the place a second chance (sorry I do not know your name!)
We were unable to order the lazy board and many of the shared dishes as you had run out by the time we got there which was very disappointing. To add to this service was not very good, our waitress checked on our food before we had even started eating and then when bringing our 2nd burger out the waiter processed to answer the phone whilst putting our food on the table. I thought this was incredibly rude! And then we had to wait for ages for our bill after asking twice and eventually just went to the bar to pay. So, overall not a great experience and we wouldn’t go back.
Food better than average but not much in quantity, meat on sunday lunch was beautiful and quality. Staff were very polite and welcoming. If booking online perhaps phone and be sure seating needs can be catered for.
Good night, enjoyed it! Expensive drinks for brand of gin - no other complaints.
Amazing tasting food. Excellent front of house. Will definitely be back.
A fabulous first visit. We really enjoyed the food and the service was amazing. It may be our first visit but it won't be our last.
The best food we have had in a long time! Quality of food was amazing , service was fantastic and was a lovely place to have a cosy date night! Will deffo be booking again!
Great evening. The only complaint would be that we were told there was no drinks menu because they had been thrown in the bin. Ok. But, nobody did anything about it, nobody offered to name some cocktails or even write some down to offer or even google some. Surely everyone hadnt forgotton the entire drinks menu.. Very disapointing for a bar that boasts its drinks not to have any to offer. I hope the issue gets resolved soon. Probably should make a note of them or put the drinks on the website from now on.
Great food as always, best mocha in ages!
Unusual and interesting menu Very nicely cooked and presented Great atmosphere
Very good experience tonight. Staff were absolutely lovely. Although had to wait a little while for our table they looked after us really well. Cannot fault them. The food was amazing too.
Excellent service, really friendly staff & the food was gorgeous
We had heard quite a few people raving on about don’t tell the duke so a group of 4 of us travelled from Doncaster when we arrived we were greeted quickly and shown to our table. The lady came a few minutes later and took our drinks orders. We didn’t get shown a menu or anything so we was taking a blind guess. My husband doesn’t like drinking out of glasses so he tends to go for a bottle or can of drink when we are out there wasnt much choice for him he tried the lemon Fanta thing that the waiter recommended but it was grapefruit not lemon so he sat and didn’t drink with his meal. then when it Cake to ordering our food the menu wasn’t explained to us the lady just recommended the sharers platter and left us to decide so my freinds went for the Sunday roast sharing platter and we opted for a pork dinner and a beef dinner. My husband doesn’t eat mash or vegetables so he only wanted roasties Yorkshire pudding meat and gravy the lady said yes no problem we will give you extra roasties and a Yorkshire when it arrived he had 2 roast potatoes that wasn’t crispy at all 1 Yorkshire pudding and the tiniest piece of pork I’ve ever seen. The gravy was onion gravy none of us like onions so we asked for some plain gravy the waiter fetched us gravy where they had just Took the onions out so the taste was still really strong. My plate was swimming in greasy water, Me and my friend both complained as our beef was raw it was so red a good vet would be able to fetch it back alive. We sent it back 10 minutes later the meat came back just as raw as it left and the rest of our food was now cold. 1 slice of carrot a spoon of mash 2 roast potatoes a little biit if cabbage and a Yorkshire is not a dinner to us..the sharers plater the portions of veg was so small that my Freind went without veg so her husband could eat it.. We did complain about our meal and a lovely lad behind the bar offered us a free drink but I’ll be honest for £110 it’s not somewhere I would come back to nor recommend as in our opinion the food is awful. Another thing we found quite disturbing was the fact there where 2 ladies openly breastfeeding in the middle of us eating our meals, we have nothing against this but the fact they was doing it so openly was disgusting because everything was on show. The staff have got to be the best part of the place because they really was trying there best.
Great quality of food especially the meat on the Sunday sharing board
Amazing food, 10/10. Can’t wait to Visit again
Staff were great and the food was amazing. So nice to have a good choice of veggie and vegan options.
Absolutely fantastic staff, really made to feel welcome and very well looked after. Food was outstanding, my only criticism would be to let the customer decide on wether there should be sea salt sprinkled or not. Little too salty for me but that didn’t put me off at all. Highly recommend, lovely little place although prices a tad on the high side too. All in all I’d easily give 4 out of 5....
We had a brilliant time! From the moment we went in the door to the second we left. Every single member of staff could not do enough for us. The staff are knowledgeable on the menu and gave assistance and gentle nudges (especially on dessert) to make sure we picked right. The food was all incredible and everything we expected, we will definitely be back.
We had sharing platter Sunday roasts it was excellent, great quality, variety and quantity, we were all full. I did think it was a bit in the expensive side for a lunchtime. The waiting staff were very attentive, polite and friendly and the restaurant itself was done out lovely, it was busy enough to have an atmosphere but you didn't feel overcrowded, I would definitely visit here again.
