About Donnington Grove Restaurant
Dining out in Newbury can become an occasion if the venue is Donnington Grove. The River Restaurant is a delightful place to enjoy a meal and a glass of wine. Set amidst beautiful parkland with the River Lambourn winding through the grounds, this Newbury restaurant has large picture windows to make the most of the picturesque river views. The generous patio area is perfect for al-fresco dining or Afternoon Tea on a delightful, British summer day. For those not wishing the formality of dinner with several courses, there is the option of the bar that has an extensive menu of light meals and snacks guaranteed to keep hunger pangs at bay. Whether a traditional breakfast, Afternoon Tea or a three-course evening meal, Donnington Grove's menus provide tasty dishes that make the most of locally-sourced and seasonal ingredients.
Lovely lunch thanks. Helpful waitress and kitchen for our daughter’s allergy and lovely puddings. Plus a lovely location of course. Thanks!
Lovely afternoon tea would happily recommend to friends.
We arranged to have lunch for a group of ten family members who live in London and Bristol as well as ourselves who live in Newbury. The event was all we had hoped it would be and the food, both quality and presentation, superb. Service, too, was very efficient and friendly: thank you all. The hotel is in an interesting 18th century architectural style and set in an attractive landscape, making it very appropriate for our little celebration.
Nice place but could be better. Very good service. Average meal but poor choice for vegetarian. Frozen pudding and no apple sauce for pork! Good value. Lovely location.
After the refurbishment, the restaurant has a much better atmosphere, even on a grey, wet, winter Sunday. The food was most enjoyable as well.
Lovely food and great service. Thank you
Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Chris in the restaurant. We stayed in the Summerhouse rooms which were lovely. Very clean and comfortable with a nice view down towards the lake. Highly recommended.
We had a very pleasant and relaxed Valentine's dinner. Food was excellent, service impecable ans atmosphere and value for money were fine.
We were a party of 4 3 meals arrived together and a wait of several minutes before the 4th meal arrived and atmospherewas quiet as only 8 people incl us in restaurant
Accurately cooked food with well balanced flavours and seasonings. Presentation of dishes modern and attractive without being over-fussy. Interesting wine list.
Ill be back!
Love the newly refurbished restaurant, feels closer and more classy. Now has its own clearly signposted entrance so easier to find from the outside without going through the hotel. Great service for our afternoon tea. As we were the only diners at 4pm the atmosphere wasn't quite there but with another couple of diners it would be fine. Would return!
Excellent all round. Delicious food and first class service.
Had another fantastic couple of nights. Food and service in the restaurant and bar was excellent as usual. All of the staff were polite and the food was nice and hot. The only thing I would say is that the lighting could be a little bit more intimate as it is quite bright with all of the down lights .
Food had obviously been brought in frozen, brussels sprouts were inedible, carrots chewy, meat was undercooked and chewy, portion size of desert was minimal and very disappointing, roast potatoes were re-heated frozen ones and dry, there was excessive noise from other tables, room was cold - even though there was an electric plug in heater behind us. Coffee was watery and undrinkable. An enormous disappointment on what was supposed to be a family Christmas lunch.
Well worth the wait to experience the newly refurbished restaurant. Service & food were excellent. will certainly be making a return trip.
Was so impressed with our visit to Donning Grove's new restaurant Beau's - the staff were all fantastic, very friendly and helpful! The quality of the food was amazing and the price was surprisingly reasonable for what you got! Beautiful grounds, cannot wait to visit again!
Lovely experience and quiet afternoon tea with great service.
Beautiful location, service great. Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back
food was delicious and I cleared my plate of both pork and pudding courses.
Some of the cakes from afternoon tea were a bit dry, we assumed from a packet or something? The rest was lovely though!
Service was disappointing (usually very good). There was a big party who came in during our tea and we were completely ignored from then on and had to seek someone out for more tea and to pay the bill. Food was good but despite letting the restaurant know in advance at the time of booking one of our party was gluten free we ended up with 4 little cakes for her which were all the same and were a kind of seeded flapjack, hardly an indulgent treat, especially as the rest of us had a lovely selection. Again, this has never been an issue before.
very helpful staff
Excellent staff, lovely setting
Great setting, lovely staff, I have already recommended to several people. My first visit to this unknown (to me) gem, but I shall definitely be back.
