About The Dolphin Inn
We are a small family owned and family operated business, we are proud members of our community and concerned citizens of our environment. Our shared values and principles are central to our business and our values often go deeper than simply benefitting the family, but also the wider community in which we operate including projects supporting charities that fit our personal mission.
Our butcher in Aldeburgh ensures that all of our meat is not only sourced as locally as possible but also of the best quality. Our fish comes directly from the markets in Lowestoft sourced only from sustainable stocks. Our bread is from the famous Pump Street bakery in Orford and delivered fresh on a daily basis.
Our greengrocer in Leiston is able to offer some top locally grown produce whilst during the warmer months we have daily deliveries of fruit and veg that has been cut just minutes before it arrives from the local allotment just a stones throw away. Even the milk we use is from a local dairy.
It doesn’t stop with food - our offering on the bar also boasts some great local names. Aspall not only makes the vinegar you put on your chips but is much better known for its award winning cider. You can’t come to Suffolk and not have a pint of Adnams, from Southwold just up the coast.
Food fab, simple but tasty. Champagne very good value. Definitely be back.
You're staff are lovely but a bit too liase fire which can sometimes make a long wait between courses.
Had a good meal , really pleased thanks rob dilley
Good food and good beer in a convivial atmosphere.
Such friendly, helpful service made our lunch such a pleasure - thank you!
We visited the Dolphin twice during our week long stay in Thorpeness and both meals were excellent. Exceptionally friendly staff.
Excellent dog-friendly pub
Lovely meal and excellent service
Excellent meal and service despite being very busy.
Could not fault the food and the service, our party of 8 all enjoyed the evening very much. I would certainly go again to the Dolphin
My starter was lovely , my main which was the lamb burger was not, it tasted off , I very quietly spoke to the waitress as didn’t want a big fuss, however then someone else came out and accused me of not knowing the difference between lamb and beef and advised that it was the spices!! I eat out regularly , in various places,at least twice a week, I’m not stupid and know the difference between lamb and beef and can read a menu ! Therefore yes I knew it was lamb,I’ve eaten out enough to know it was not spices and quite frankly wasn’t going to complain, however after the second lady had tried to make me look stupid in front of guests It put my back up. I don’t think I’ve ever been spoken to like that in a restaraunt before and feel it totally inappropriate. Up until this I was happy with everything , however if this is how complaints are dealt with, I would not recommend to anyone else. Sadly it was not dealt with well.
Fish super fresh and perfectly cooked. Amazing for the price
Despite staff being under immense pressure with Easter holiday crowds my friend and I were made to feel very welcome. Great table, great service and the chips were the best I have ever tasted, not to mention the delicious fresh cooked burger. Will visit again.
It was a busy Good Friday. Our table was ready for us when we arrived but getting served was slow both at the bar and with our food. The staff were calm and friendly but seemed under pressure, perhaps understaffed? The food was lovely.
Prebooked a table but was so busy took some time to get seated. The bar was also very busy and seemed to have no system to serving customers, so again took some time to get served. The food however arrived quickly and was very nice.
lovely service, very friendly staff
One of our favourite places for food, never disappointed.
We were running late to our booking and phoned ahead - staff were accommodating, and service on arrival was very good. Food was good, interesting starter options - I had the steak which according to the waitress the chef liked to cook medium although when it arrived it was (very) rare. That is how I would have had it by preference so not a problem, but I like to give the chef the chance to present food as they see fit. The children's menu was good and the bill was reasonable.
enjoyed a very memorable meal
Another pleasant evening at the Dolphin.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere would definitely recommend.
