The initial wait was a shame but all in all an enjoyable night out
We had a great time - attentive service and wonderful food Thank you!
One of the best sushi experiences I have had. A definite consideration for any must have dining especially in London.
Good food and pleasant service but wildly overpriced and way too cramped and shabby.
Just fabulous! Sushi Chefs are hugely talented and offer great service.
Still good, but quality and service not as good as they used to be!
Had I not done my research, I would not have any idea of the beautiful food they serve here! A quirky little restaurant in the middle of nowhere- but a beautiful gem. Absolutely delicious and original Japanese food.
The food was exquisite. Every dish was perfect and so tasty.
Exceptional food and service, shame about the venue though.
Chiba is phenomenal
Fantastic fusion of flavors, all meals were very tasty... Service was great, finest Japenese I ever tasted. Keep up good team.
So we went to Dinings on Sunday for a friend's 40th birthday celebrations. For four of us, the bill came to £449. The waiter we had was very attentive and knew the menu well. (The menu is overly complicated which makes it difficult to decide - this has been the case all 3 times we've come to Dinings, but the food is excellent). I have a gluten intolerance, and was impressed by the waiter's knowledge and HELP in choosing the right dishes. He also empathised with me, by telling me that he had a nut allergy. The food and wine arrived and all was good. But two-thirds into the meal, our original waiter "tailed-off" and we had a new "waiter" taking care of us. This new waiter (let's call him waiter2), was very abrupt and matter-of-fact, which was a strange experience in such a great restaurant. The rest of the dinner went something like this... There was a particular dish which arrived at our table which I wanted to check whether it contained gluten or not (the tempura dish we ordered earlier obviously did contain gluten and this new dish that came to our table was apparently gluten free, but also had parts of the dish which were deep fried in a batter - and looked very similar to the tempura). So I asked waiter2 whether the dish contained gluten (because it was battered). He replied he didn't think that it contained gluten. So I asked him to double-check because part so of it were coated in batter. He responded by saying that the dish was not coated in anything and that it was totally different to the tempura dish. I was very surprised at that comment as the part of the dish I was looking at clearly had battered elements to it. At this point, I'm starting to question his knowledge on the menu. Also his indifference to the situation was slightly alarming. So I pointed to the batter, to which waiter2 responded by saying "I believe that this dish is gluten free", to which I responded by saying "yes, but I want to know for sure whether this is gluten free or not? I don't want you to tell me that you believe it is gluten free, I want to know that it is gluten free. Can you find out what the batter is made of?". In an annoyed tone, waiter2 very matter-of-factly and slightly rudely said that he could check with the chef, but that the chef wouldn't be saying anything different to what he was saying. The 4 of us felt so uncomfortable at the tone were being spoken to in (the other diners downstairs have also all gone quiet at this point), that it totally ruined the atmosphere of our friend's birthday celebrations and the rest of the evening. So we carry on eating and leaving this particular dish to the side expecting a response very soon. After around 10 minutes of waiting, I asked our original waiter whether he'd had confirmation of whether the dish was gluten free or not and whether he'd managed to find out what the batter was made of. He said he would check with waiter2. Eventually, waiter2 comes back and tells me that he's already confirmed with us that the dish is gluten-free? "Errr, no you haven't" I responded. And so he tells us again that it is gluten free. But what I wanted him to check was what the batter was made of. So he went off in a huff upstairs and came back down telling us that it was made of rice flour, and that now the chef was annoyed because he kept having to ask him the same question. So yet again, we were made to feel as though we had done something wrong and were spoken to in a very rude tone. After the mains had been finished, we ordered desserts, which came and were very good. Waiter2 then came down and said that we had to leave straight away because Dinings only had a license until 11pm... which is fair enough, but at least tell us in advance (like 10 minutes or so), so that we can start winding down instead of being ejected immediately. So, in all, the food and wine were excellent, but the service was the rudest we've experienced. What was supposed to have been a night of celebration, turned into night where we felt like we shouldn't even have gone out. I've also never before been made to feel so uncomfortable for having a gluten intolerance.
The food is always amazing!! best sushi and japanese food in general in town for long (I always order the tacos with waguy, miso aubergine, black cod and their tuna sushi that are the old time classics and my favorites). I also tried an amazing special of the day sushi with scallops this time. The service was a bit average this time but never mind-- food is good enough to forget everything else.
Inventive dishes, thoroughly enjoyed
Loved the food and thought the hostess and staff upstairs were sensational, unfortunately the staff on the lower ground who served us were not as charming. Either they were tired and gave off a grumpy vibe or they gave quite a hard "up sell" on your most expensive dishes. It would not put me off coming back but just made the evening less than perfect which is a shame because it was a real treat for us to be there.
Outstanding food as always! Thank you for looking after us so well - the service is always excellent. We will be back!
Food was great and our waiter was also very good at explaining the menu to us. I'm nit-picking a bit on service, but we had to ask for top ups to water a few times as they kept forgetting, and it took 10 mins to get a beer... not a major problem but not perfect. It’s also expensive, but it’s in an expensive part of town so no shock but it’s not quite Umu good, but it’s as expensive, pretty much.
Best sushi in town
Fantastic Japanese food, fish is so tasty, original dishes and flavours, great friendly service! Could not recommend more highly!
My first return in a few years, I must say food standards have fallen along with terrible service, which must explain the easy booking as well for our time slot.
Great food but very expensive
Excellent food. A firm favourite
