Dhamaka in our context symbolises an explosion of flavours!
Dhamaka assimilates the culture of India – vibrant colours, lit up festivals, the street food and the amazing curries from all corners of India.
What We Strive For
The curries, some not so commonly heard, will tickle your taste buds. We conceptualised Dhamaka with the ambition to take you down the streets of India exploring Indian street food – the Kebabs of Lucknow, chat food from Bombay, the Hyderabadi biryanis, Delhi’s butter chicken, Keralan cheman mappas, and infinitely many more. To compliment the profile of these flavours, we have exquisitely crafted Cocktails; Wines & Beers, which will make you, come back for more.
Dhamaka is not your “Lets try some curry over the weekend after few pints” sort of a place. It aims to stand proudly next to the other high street restaurants offering authentic Indian cuisine but with a casual dining feel to it.
The Core Team
Dhamaka is a brainchild of Vinay Reddy. Hyderabad born, culinary institute graduate, corporate trained in Taj hotels, worked on luxury cruise liner Queen mary2 (the then world’s biggest in 2003) and later moved on to UK.
After working in 2 rossette establishments, upmarket steak houses in London moved to Bristol to open Zaza Bazaar as an Executive Chef and progressing further up to Operations Manager role. After several years of well-rounded experience, it was the natural progression to set up his own restaurant.
After doing a lot of research he came up with the idea to launch a Casual Indian restaurant concept with emphasis on street food, something which moves away from the crowded fine dining Indian restaurants and drowning curry houses. He could have relied on none other than his beloved friend ex-work colleague Jyotirmoy Patra to get his vision to his diners plates.
Jyotirmoy Patrav – Orissa born, an extremely passionate chef bleeding makhani sauce. He has graduated in hospitality & worked with the most reputable chefs in both India and overseas. Trained under the eagle eyes of the Master Chef from India – Sanjeev Kapoor, one of the world’s most talented & renowned chef in Indian cuisine, and after moving to the UK – worked for the Michelin starred chefs Atul Kochhar from Benares at Mayfair.
He joined the opening team of Zaza Bazaar in 2011 as Sous chef and grew up the ranks to become the executive chef. Jyotirmoy Patra worked in various parts of India – Hyderabad, Chennai, Calcutta and also worked for 5-star hotels in Dubai. His experience of working in various parts of the globe, with the best chefs from those regions gave him unparalleled knowledge of Indian cuisine & the restaurant business world.
He brings his expertise in the Indian cuisine to complement with the casual dining restaurant concept. Jyothi’s way of correcting a dish, if it is not to his standard, is simple – “Do it again until its perfect”
Perfect in every way 😊
We liked the concept and the service and attention was great. We would return, maybe with a small group. The food was tasty, lovely prawn curry, the lamb kebab a little dry and the dosa , which was nice, could have had a little more filling. The pani puri was a good and we enjoyed trying food not found in a typical restaurant.
Exceptional service, delightful food. First time we have visited but will not be the last. Highly recommended.
Lovely! Amazing variety and taste :)
Loved our party here with 10 of us. We mostly ordered from the street food side, which was a lot of food, and really catered well for our veggie and vegan friends. The food was delicious and really interesting, also catering for our less adventurous friends, and everyone was pleased with their food. We left a present behind and the staff rang and text us, offering to return the next day and the times they were open - luckily we hadn't gone far so could just pop back in. Only thing I'd add is a better choice of non alcoholic beverages that aren't full of sugar but I still enjoyed the whole experience. Would definitely recommend.
I personally wasn’t impressed as it is my first time . Food was cold and pani Puri was very dry. Masala dosa was just a small dosa and can’t be a proper masala dosa and everything felt like it was made in a microwave.
Wonderful and unique Indian street food served by staff who know the food in a quirky and interesting environment.
Great food and service
Food is amazing... Both chicken and veg options are good
Awesome food, we chose a variety of dishes that all tasted awesome. This restaurant is definitely not your typical Indian restaurant where a base curry sauce is used in all your dishes.
We had a great time. Lovely food and lots of hlep in choosing it. Really friendly service. It was bit loud, especially when a large table of guys sat behind us but that is not the fault of the restaurant. When we go again, we will ask for a table in the front window or perhaps ask them to turn down the music a bit. I would certainly recommend Dhamaka for a good night out.
Booked for a staff party and everyone made a point of mentioning how much they enjoyed it!
I wasn't able to go to Dhamaka due to illness, but my husband did and particularly enjoyed the cauliflower dish he had. Very good indeed for vegetarians.
Absolutely brilliant, fresh food, excellent service and lovely cocktails. My friends were on their first visit and all 4 were very impressed - vegans and non veggies alike!
Fantastic meal and the street food makes it really enjoyable to try lots of different dishes! It’s like Indian tapas!
Unfortunately had a family with a young child who they had no control over, which was a real shame. Otherwise, it was lovely especially when the family left.
Great food and service, will definitely be back to try more dishes.
We had our Christmas party here on Friday and the team, food and service were amazing. They were so attentive and everything came out as planned and the food was amazing. I would highly recommend Dhamaka and will definitely return.
My third time back in as many months. Lovely addition to the Bristol food scene.
Fabulous meal super delicious very unique a lovely restaurant can highly recommend
Lovely food, good explanations. Really enjoyed it.
Really enjoyable evening on Monday with my colleagues. Very attentive staff, with a good variety on the menu of traditional Indian mixed in with some oriental influences. Goan curry was delicious and the fish was very tender. Definitely worth a visit for a casual, friendly, dining experience.
Food was very tasty, the sharing plates are a different take on Indian food which was fun. Very busy restaurant, the food is delivered really quickly but can be hard to get staff attention additional drinks & the bill. Not a major problem though, would definitely go again.
Incredible food and delicious, would definitely go here again!
