About Darwin's Kitchen
Darwin's Kitchen serves food that's as local as possible.
Our Chefs source the freshest and highest quality
ingredients within 25 miles of Shrewsbury.
This ensures we are supporting people passionate about good food whilst also reducing our carbon footprint.
Our back restaurant is a small, intimate dining area, perfect for date night or small functions
The conservatory is bright and airy space, ideal for larger groups or afternoon tea!
I liked it, small portions though and hence I felt ir was over priced a bit.
We were a group of 27 and had preordered a 3 course meal. The meals came in a very organised effective way. The service from Oliver and Kate was excellent. The dishes were first class and the whole group without exception was very satisfied. My best recommendations!
Very nice restaurant. Good value for money. The staff were very good. Menu chose good.
Lovely young girl serving us very friendly
I went there with my friend for brunch on Saturday 12th October. The place looks beautiful there were only 1 or 2 other tables apart from ours. I ordered Darwin's omelette which according to the menu had: 3 eggs, smoked salmon, avocado, spinach and then sour cream, hash browns, sliced tomatoes and toast. My friend ordered veggie breakfast. After ordering, one waitress informed me there was no salmon so asked if it was ok to have bacon instead which I agreed to. When the food came, my omelette had salmon which was an unexpected surprise and I noticed it was missing hash browns so I asked for them. My friend and I commented on the lack of sauce as both her and mine breakfast needed some oil/ketchup or even butter for toast. This reminded me my omelette dish should have also had sliced tomatoes and sour cream. I mentioned this to the waitress when asked about the food and we got a discount but considering the restaurant was practically empty and they failed to deliver, I highly doubt I would go back and I wouldn't be recommending this place to friends. As beautiful as it looks, it is not worth the hassle.
I booked a table for my dads 70th birthday and all was well until our food orders came out, there was an issue with what steak was being served and my order was incorrect so I had to wait for mine, which didn’t arrive until most of my family had finished eating. 4 people ordered steak of which most of them ordered medium rare actually were more rare when they arrived. Other than this the food was good and service was fine, I was given a complimentary drink for waiting for my food and my main meal was also not added to the bill along with one bottle of wine which I appreciated. Fortunately my dad had a good meal, just a shame that not everyone else did.
We had a lovely meal but there wasn’t enough veg for our big eaters but what we had was faultless. The waiting on staff were fab attentive but not in your face x
Darwin's Kitchen would be a lovely place if it wasn't for the staff. I've never been so disappointed and upset as I was on Saturday 28th September 2019. I confirmed everything via email a week before including final numbers and dietary requirements. I booked Darwin's in Apr/May and have been in regular contact. This was suppose to be the last celebration of our wedding weekend. Our family and friends travelled from all over the world. My sister who came over from Australia left early as she couldn't eat, gluten free options were taken to another table. One guest on my mum's table was asked if they wanted anything but my mum and sister weren't. As one of the host I would eat last but food was being taken away before I could eat. Dietary requirements were not taken into consideration. The lack of organisation and communication within Darwin's caused some guest stress. At the end of the evening a few of us decided to go the bar and order drinks. My friend and I were told cocktails were off the menu as there wasn't any ice but ice was then brought out. The bartender smacked his hands down in rage, refused to serve us and stormed off. I went straight to the 2 managers and was told they don't know why he did that. Still there was no full apology, no drinks served and neither of them spoke to the bartender. My husband asked if it was a race issue as it was my friend and I who went to the bar to order. We are both black and all one of the managers could say is that the bartender isn't racist which she can't know. To be told by the manager he can't be racist because her boyfriend who was not at the premises is black still makes no sense. It was very upsetting that my guest had to witness this and for my friend who travelled so far to experience such behaviour. Once we left he said he felt we were discriminated against and he wondered if the bartender was also homophobic as he is gay. We left straightaway with our guest to be much better, welcoming establishment. My only regrets of it all is that we paid the full bill and that I didn't make a fuss. I was very calm which no one would expect anyone in those circumstances to be. We had dinner and drinks at the Loopy Shrew on Thursday and couldn't wait to go to Darwin's as we understand they are jointly owned. Luke (my husband) and I went in twice on Saturday during the day to confirm everything and to look at the space we booked. Unfortunately we only have bad memories of this place.
We had a great evening. The food on the party menu was delicious and we were well looked after. Thank you
Special offer fabulous
Great meal for our wedding anniversary. The staff were so helpful and the standard of service excellent, quick and friendly. Wood definitely recommend.
Hi, we had a fabulous time at Darwins for lunch, the place was bright clean and the service along with the food was excellent. Will book again.
This was our second visit as we enjoyed the first so much. This time we took friends and had a wonderful lunch. Great food and service at a great price. Really recommed this restaurant.
Amazing location, good food, very kind staff.. Absolutely recommended!!
We had a wonderful meal with you - Chef's Beer Teriyaki is amazing - and my husband feels his birthday has been properly celebrated. Thank you - we will be back when we get over to the other side of the country again!
The only problem is that it is a long walk up a very steep hill from Darwin's Hotel
A birthday meal for me and one I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend. The food was very good, service without fault. One of our party had the roast pork which he enjoyed, but did comment that the portion was far too much, and he is a big bloke! A most enjoyable experience and we will be sure to visit again. Thank you!
Drink service in the bar was good. However in restaurant One of senior ladies was good, however service from balance of team was disengaged and disinterested in us. Service was below par and all our courses came at once as if we'd been forgotten. Yet when we tried to eat young staff tried to clear table when we hadn't even completed. Very disappointing and NOT a nice experience
We had a group booking last Tuesday and the staff were really really helpful and friendly. Only one problem was that 3 risotto meals had uncooked rice mixed in with cooked rice . However overall we had a great time. Thank You!
Excellent service, excellent food well presented and cooked. Great ambiance will certainly visit again.
Our first and last visit. We went for a nights stay at there hotel and received a 3 course meal and a £6.95 glass of wine each. We ordered our 2 courses and the waitress then returned to say one of our mains was sold out! We had a7 o’clock booking so not very good. The wine was a very small glass of wine which shouldn’t cost £6.95! My husband had changed his mains to the same as me lamb koufti which is a lamb kebab with pita bread bread. The starters were ok but the mains arrived and my pitta was cold and very hard making it difficult to cut. The starters were ok Then time to order a sweet. We both chose the same sweet and yet again she came back to tell us it was sold out!. I chose eton mess as my alternative And was shocked when it was put in front of me. It had a tiny amount of meringue with berries and a small portion of ice cream. I asked the waitress if that was IT! It was disgusting. The waitress said it was a deconstructed Eton mess! I was flaggergasted and very annoyed and in the end the waitress changed it and felt sorry for the staff having to deal with complaints. NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Could not fault Darwins’s Kitchen in any way a group of 15 enjoyed a lovely meal and not one had a negative comment nothing but praise.
Excellent will definitely return
Very enjoyable meal & surroundings
We were disappointed with the set 3 course meal that came with stay at Darwin’s townhouse. Main course was undercooked and all the meal lacked flavour. Lovely staff though and excellent service.
