About Darwin's at The George
Contemporary and stylish, Darwin’s is a great place to relax and enjoy modern British dishes created with passion and style from the best of local, seasonal produce. Alongside the a la carte menu there is also a great value fixed price menu available Monday - Thursday evenings and until 7pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Did you know the logo for Darwin’s was inspired by Erasmus Darwin’s table? Darwin loved great food – so much so that in his later years, he had to have a semi-circle cut out of his dining table so he could sit at it comfortably!
Availability
It was a busy evening and it took a while to get us seated. However, once in we were well looked after by polite, attentive, friendly and professional staff. Starters and mains were excellent. I was very pleased that my tongue in cheek request for extra custard with my dessert was agreed. It was a good evening, with staff making it memorable
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Darwin’s. The food was superb and the staff magnificent. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived and the Manager went out of his way to look after us. The restaurant was quiet (only two other tables were occupied) but it was a mid week night and we made our own atmosphere as we were with good friends. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.
Only negative comment is having to wait to be seated. Otherwise the service was good
Impressed by the service
Helen, who was our waitress made our evening special and the service as impeccable. We absolutely loved it. The food was beautiful and we will definitely come back. This is our second time and we loved it just as much as the first time. Thank you.
If you were resident at the George for more than 3 or 4 days, you might find the menu restricted. This isn't a big problem as the street is full of alternative restaurants. Helen creates a very welcoming atmosphere, but we noticed that other staff were not vigilant regarding meeting & seating new arrivals.
The waiting time for food to be brought out was ridiculous. We were seated at 8pm and didn't get served our main course until after 9.15pm. The waitress did explain that you were particularly busy that night and offer us a complimentary drink. However by that time we just wanted to leave.
Excellent table service and lovely food
Extremely long time before our food order was taken. Other guests, arriving after ourselves, were attended to first. On enquiry early in the day, we were informed that the Restaurant was at capacity and we could not add a further two guests. On arrival and viewing the table layout, another small square table, to seat two, would not have presented a problem (in our opinion)
New menu looks good
Lovely food and staff especially Sam.
The staff are beyond exceptional..! Probably the best service we have ever had. Friendly and engaging as good waiters and waitresses should.
Unexperienced breakfast staff need more training
Nothing negative to say. We will be paying another visit soon.
The first courses took a while to come but were really excellent and freshly cooked (meat balls & liver). However, the bread and butter pudding was only so-so and gave the impression they'd been around for a while.
cannot fault anything.staff are very accomadating and food is excellent. been many times.
Excellent food. Very tender steak and liver. Speed of service just right. Attentive and friendly service. Highly recommended.
Nice atmosphere, although background music was stuck on loop which was irritating. Service was good, staff professional. Food was ok, but nothing special. In my opinion it was over priced. Wouldn't rush back or recommend.
Excellent service and very good value
I ordered the tuna - I sent it back at it was barely warm, I received another 'fresh' portion which was half the size of the first one. A poor dish that I will not order again. My husband had meatballs which were lovely.
My wife and I visited Darwins for our wedding anniversary and were very pleasantly surprised on what was our first meal here. The staff were very friendly from the start and this continued throughout the evening. The service was a little slow to begin with but was probably due to being busy. This did not detract in any way from our visit. The menu is limited but most people should be able to find something they like. The food came piping hot, well presented and was absolutely delicious. We both ordered steak which came exactly as requested. The sweets were equally well presented and the Tequila Lime Pie was superb. The Tiramisu although very creamy needed a little more flavour. When we made the staff aware that it was our anniversary they surprised us with an impromptu personalised dessert to share. It was a very nice end to a very pleasant evening and one that we hope to repeat in the future. Many thanks to all the staff for giving us an anniversary meal to remember.
Used a groupon deal for the meal but will be returning when having to pay the full price. Friendly staff made the night even more special.
We have been twice in the last week and the food is stunning. We have been coming for some years now and the service is fantastic-Mark really drives the professionalism through his team! Great restaurant,
We had a brilliant evening which was made even better by the brilliant service we received from Mark and Helen .They were so friendly and attentive. We live on the North Norfolk Coast and eat out in many restaurants and they by far surpassed our expectations. Well done Mark and Helen, we will definitely be returning on our next visit to family in the Midlands and hope to see you again. The Miller party 4th August 2018.
All of it was brilliant thank you
