About Cyder Bar
Around the time that Hadspen House was built, the finest quality cyders were preferred to champagne by sniffy Somerset gentry who knew their tipple. Our cyders are made with 100% apple juice, using a state-of-the-art Cyder Press and Cyder Cellar, and advanced cold-press processes.
Great food, with a very beautiful and atmospheric garden and walks
Always a great experience in fantastic surroundings
The takeaway picnic was lovely. Very high quality food and drink. Also we didn’t need to wait as it was all ready to go, so very efficient service. Even with lockdown measures, the atmosphere was still good. The area felt safe and touches such as the fire pit made it extra enjoyable. One thing that would make it slightly better would be a few extras such as basic sandwiches on the menu. This would suit people with children much better. Will definitely come again!
Lovely place with Great coffee.Needed more staff as you had to queue for quite a while just to get drinks, but that maybe due to covid. Everything seemed very reasonably priced apart from the sausage roll. It was very nice but not worth £5!
I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the Newt and food from the Cyder bar. The sausage roll is a particular favourite and the soup was very warming. We did have to go back for the bread which hadn't been included in the bag.
Fantastic food, top service and beautiful landscape.
Delicious sausage roll!
Brilliant place to work and to visit!
Delicious as always and pre-order ready on time. Great service with a smile!
The food was delicious (particularly the soup). Really enjoyable day, the grounds are beautiful and suitable for all the family.
Despite having to order in advance, long queues to collect, extremely slow and understaffed. Need to be able to order hot drinks too - system for tea and coffee non- existent
My soup was warm not hot, no napkins provided and could not get a coffee! Why no put a coffee machine in the glasshouse and the shop and have more staff!
The Newt is a pretty amazing place. What a surprise of a day!
Quality of food and drink very good but service was unbelievably slow. I had pre ordered food but ended up stood in the main queue as it was not clear to see there was a separate collection point. Place is lovely though and we will be back but as you cannot being picnics the takeaway food service needs to be quicker. We had two impatient children and made this part of the visit very stressful.
We had a lovely time yesterday. But helpfull feed back would be that; Your staff had to many of us to help out. Presentation didnt resemble your photos. Pastrys would have beem delicious if thay where warm. We struggeld with no gluten or lacto free options, luckly we found some crakers in your shop. If you had all the above it would have made our lovely day Complitly perfect. See you again.
The signage to get a cup of coffee paid for before collecting is poor easy to join collection queue before realising you had to join another queue to pay first. Picnic collection was slow as coffees etc were made by the same staff handing out the picnics. Outside Tables and chairs were wet from early morning rain which could have easily been dried off.
In the time of COVID they did a great job. Being able to eat our picnic in the greenhouse was great on a cloudy/ drizzly day.
2 members of staff serving on the Cyder Bar hardly seemed enough for the number of visitors waiting.
The bar was busy with one member of staff taking orders for both coffee and pick nicks but only one making coffee etc. Suggest they get more staff as we waited for over 10 mins to collect 3 coffees. The signage for pick nick collection was poor and could not be seen easily if somebody was standing in front of it, so waited in the coffee line by mistake. I preordered the pick nick and navigating the site was confusing and time consuming and the choice of dishes was very limited. Although the ingredients are all organic and made on the premises I could have bought the same dishes in the shop for less (one dish which I thought would be hot wasn’t!) and the service is faster.
Well organised, lovely food
Food was excellent. However, we had to return to the queue at the bar twice in order to get all the picnic items that we had pre-ordered. Our picnic was for 4 - it was eventually discovered that this had been packed in two bags, of which we had only been given one. The staff were very pleasant and apologetic, but were struggling to serve all the waiting visitors. Naturally I understand the difficulties of the health situation at present, but perhaps a rethink about the ordering/collection arrangements is needed?
You know that your food is expensive so I need to say no more about Value for Money. It was delicious however. My main complaint is that I had pre-booked a picnic for a specific time. There was no separate queue for collections, only for coffee collection. Therefore I had to queue with those booking and paying for picnics for over half an hour. When I got to the head of the queue, my picnic was checked for contents and handed to me. When I checked it, I found my cake was missing. Not a premium service.
We booked for an 11:30 slot pick up. On arrival to the Cyder Bar there were three queues, not clearly enough marked. Customers were directing other customers to the correct queue. Our food was not ready for 11:30 so we chose to wait in the food and drink line to order hot drink (as this was not an option via the online menu). After a 15 minute wait we ordered a latte and a hot chocolate, only to be told, “Because we are busy, we are only serving Americano coffee unless you are buying for a child in which case you can have a hot chocolate.” Firstly, if this ‘reduced’ hot drinks menu is in use for then I suggest forewarning anyone prior to queuing that they’ll only be able to purchase an Americano (which will probably aid in reducing how busy you are..!) Secondly, my wife is breastfeeding and cannot consume caffeine making this ‘reduced’ menu somewhat farcical. After making this point we were given a hot chocolate. All that being said, food was great and staff were clearly only following instruction. Overall not a great experience. I suggest that now food is not allowed to be brought in externally that this service is significantly improved!
I thought the picnic items were overpriced. And a bit chaotic (soup had been forgotten for several orders). Lovely set up but could give a bit more value for money.
A positive note, one of your wait staff was absolutely brilliant. She was kind, gracious and delightful. She was also highly embarassed by our experience. The picnic was fine but not for £35. The soup initially came without bread which we subsequently asked for and was theown at us. There was no butter. The soup was good if a little watery and underseasoned. The tart and sausage roll were excellent. We also ordered a beet salad with winter leaves, buffalo mozzarella and blood orange. There wss no fewer than 3 tiny winter lewve, one torn off piece of mozzarella and absolutely no blood orange. I was so shocked i refused to pay for it (i didn't eat it so there was no freebie had). Our drinks took 40 minutes to arrive which was tricky to explain yo a toddler who had no idea why he could pour his own juice in 2 minutes but it took adult staff 40 minutes. We tried to get staff attention the entire time to chase up missong food, cutlery and drinks and no one dared to look at us. Until your one glorious staff member appeared and somewhat placated my anger and disappointment. All in all i will return to the newt but i shall not get a picnic. It was terrible value for money and with terrible service.
