About Curry Leaf Cafe - Kemptown Kitchen
Sharing with friends is what our Kemptown Kitchen is all about – a light, open space where diners can grab anything from a quick bite to a full-scale Indian feast for up to 30 people, all in full view of the kitchen and chefs preparing it.
The food arrives at the table tapas-style, as soon as it's ready rather than in a conventional 'starter and main' format, and the menu changes with the seasons to keep things fresh for regular diners. Vegans, vegetarians and gluten-intolerant diners are well catered for – along with families looking for a spacious, friendly lunch stop on weekends, when the kitchen is open from 1pm till late.
We’d been here twice before and just love the food and the atmosphere, but this time we had three others with us who were sceptical and thought it would be standard ‘Anglo-banglo’ curry. Well, all we can say is that by the end of the evening we had 3 more converts, each of them saying ‘it was the best Indian food ever’! We started with a sample of each of the delicious ‘street food’ starters to share, followed by a selection of mains and sides. All of it was excellent, especially the peshwari naan ( that in standard restaurants is way too sweet and pappy) and the really unusual, unctuous ‘black coconut ice cream’. Service was first rate too, and we had great recommendations and explanations about what each of the more unusual ( South Indian) dishes were. Several days later and our three friends are still raving about how good it all was, and how they can’t wait to go back with us again for some more... that says it all! Highly recommended.
Excellent South Indian cuisine. The dosa is especially delicious and unfortunately not often a menu item. All the food was top class and brilliant value. Service was friendly and efficient. Two stars for atmosphere only because we dined at"off peak" time
Food, drinks and service all amazing, authentic and great value for money. We will be back!
Booked this for an anniversary lunch. Restaurant not so full so quiet but atmosphere good. I loved the concept of Indian tapas - we were able to have several different dishes together. Will be going back soon!
Fantastic food and an alternative take on a curry. Lovely fresh flavours. Great service and atmosphere. Will deff go again and try other items on the menu.
Lovely food. Service was a bit slow.
Fabulous meal, good value
The food was not as good as we've had at the branch in the laines and it was quite noisey.
It's always a special occasion to go to the Curry Leaf.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and our food.
All excellent as shown above
Outstanding in every way. Food made with love.
The food at the curry leaf cafe is always amazing! We travel from West Sussex to eat here, it’s the only Indian restaurant we visit as no other restaurant comes close to this!
Delicious food and friendly and efficient staff. I was there early on a Sunday evening so it was quiet but still had a friendly vibe.
Food was amazing!! Perfect timing too, we had the set tasting menu and each course came out just as you were finishing the other! Perfect flavours and the mango lassi is to die for! Definitely coming again (and they do vouchers, so a great present)
Lovely evening and food, my only criticism would be that despite booking the table and agreeing when I booked that we could stay until 10pm (we are old friends who rarely see one another and this was a clincher for the booking), we were hurried off the table and asked to move at 9.30 which was a shame.
Something a little different from your usual curry.
All of the family together, enjoying an unhurried meal. Good food in a great atmosphere - thank you!
Street food so over cooked to the point of being burnt. The okra chips particularly were black charcoal all the way through. When we told the waiter he told us they were meant to be crispy.. these went way beyond crispy.
Amazing food. The sharing menu is outstanding. Best Indian food in town.
Meal was so lovely More unusual and I love the tapas size dishes to share and some good heaty options too for hot spice! Xx
We had a wonderful timne and will return!
Great service and absolutely delicious food.
