About Curry Leaf Cafe - Kemptown Kitchen
Sharing with friends is what our Kemptown Kitchen is all about – a light, open space where diners can grab anything from a quick bite to a full-scale Indian feast for up to 30 people, all in full view of the kitchen and chefs preparing it.
The food arrives at the table tapas-style, as soon as it's ready rather than in a conventional 'starter and main' format, and the menu changes with the seasons to keep things fresh for regular diners. Vegans, vegetarians and gluten-intolerant diners are well catered for – along with families looking for a spacious, friendly lunch stop on weekends, when the kitchen is open from 1pm till late.
Our first visit to the Kemptown Curry Leaf Cafe was to celebrate two family birthdays, though we have enjoyed a number of great meals at the Ship Street branch before. We received a lovely welcome, great service and good food as always, and it was lovely to be given little puddings with candles for our celebration. Many thanks for your hospitality!
Great place. Fantastic fresh and tasty food.
Lovely food, fab staff and a great visit. Thank you
We visited as a family of four adults for my husband's birthday & had a delicious meal. Beautifully presented food bursting with flavour. The staff were friendly & gave lots of information about the dishes we ordered & it was great value too. We look forward to a return visit. Thank you.
Lovely friendly service, great ambient interior exceptional food as ever.
Lovely flavours and good service.
Really loved it but thought the portions could be a tad more generous....will definitely be back though 👍👍
Excellent place when you need a good curry without overeating.
Everything was excellent, thanks
Delicious food good service
The quality of food was excellent. Our party of five included a vegan and vegetarian and all were well catered for. Light and airy restaurant made for attractive setting for celebratory lunch.
Wait staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very tasty - but one of our party was kept waiting an inordinate length of time for their food to arrive - L-O-N-G after everyone else had received theirs. When asked (for a second time) about their order, there was a sudden reaction in the kitchen and the food arrived a few minutes later. Hence only awarding three stars under the “Food and Drink” category, and only four stars under “Service “. Four stars only for atmosphere- crowded, so very noisy - difficult to hear oneself think, let alone another’s conversation....
Fantastic, delicious meal as always. Will be back soon.
Had a great meal with lots of interesting dishes that you wouldn't find in an ordinary curry house. Amazing Peshwari Naan.
Several mistakes were made with our order-including giving a dish with chicken to a vegetarian. 2 of our party were not served until 20 mins after the rest of us. The staff were very apologetic and attempted to compensate us. The food was excellent so the experience was mixed.
Delicious! Best Indian food in Brighton
Fabulous food and fabulous service. Thank you so much, curry leaf cafe. Couldn’t have been more perfect.
Well looked after
We’d been here twice before and just love the food and the atmosphere, but this time we had three others with us who were sceptical and thought it would be standard ‘Anglo-banglo’ curry. Well, all we can say is that by the end of the evening we had 3 more converts, each of them saying ‘it was the best Indian food ever’! We started with a sample of each of the delicious ‘street food’ starters to share, followed by a selection of mains and sides. All of it was excellent, especially the peshwari naan ( that in standard restaurants is way too sweet and pappy) and the really unusual, unctuous ‘black coconut ice cream’. Service was first rate too, and we had great recommendations and explanations about what each of the more unusual ( South Indian) dishes were. Several days later and our three friends are still raving about how good it all was, and how they can’t wait to go back with us again for some more... that says it all! Highly recommended.
Excellent South Indian cuisine. The dosa is especially delicious and unfortunately not often a menu item. All the food was top class and brilliant value. Service was friendly and efficient. Two stars for atmosphere only because we dined at"off peak" time
Food, drinks and service all amazing, authentic and great value for money. We will be back!
Booked this for an anniversary lunch. Restaurant not so full so quiet but atmosphere good. I loved the concept of Indian tapas - we were able to have several different dishes together. Will be going back soon!
Fantastic food and an alternative take on a curry. Lovely fresh flavours. Great service and atmosphere. Will deff go again and try other items on the menu.
