About Cub Restaurant
Cub is a partnership, collaboration, restaurant and precious project from lots of folk:
Mr Lyan (of White Lyan, Dandelyan, Super Lyan), Doug McMaster (of pioneering zero waste Silo, Brighton), Krug Champagne, Belvedere and LVMH, Dr Arielle Johnson (formerly Restaurant Noma, now MIT, Boston), and many others. We use considered ingredients and apply sustainable methods to create delicious stuff that does good too. We don't want to go on about that, but it's pretty damn interesting what we've tried to bring together, so please do ask us more about it when you visit!
Cub follows a simple premise of bringing people together through great food and drink. In our home on Hoxton Street in East London, we'll set you up with delicious stuff that makes your mind and belly happy. Our set menu is the best way to experience this; some courses are food, some drink and some... a mixture of the two. Vegan, Gluten-free and Boozeless options available too.
A delicious meal, with wonderful service. I can still remember the celery and green pepper G&T!
Great service, music was brilliant. Food delicious as were the cocktails.
Wonderful experience. Fascinating plant-based food exploding with flavour served by a friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere. Was a birthday dinner for two to remember!
Michelin prices for food that isn't. It's good, but no better than other places that are more reasonable.
The chef lad was amazing, so knowledgeable, and we had a really memorable meal. I look forward to come back to Cub soon and try some more great food creations. Also, great service all around!
Absolutely stunning experience. Could not have picked a better first night in London!
Amazing food and was great to hear the staff talk about each dish / drink as it came out, would definitely recommend
We loved the restaurant - really interesting, delicious food and cocktails served by friendly staff. Would definitely recommend it to others.
Great evening. Interesting and tasty food and drink and lovely service making it a fabulous experience.
Food: amazing flavors, unfortunately served luke warm (4*) Drinks: disappointing (one cocktail never arrived, alcohol content almost zero, amounts we're lowered towards the end of the night - sat in front of the bartender and could see her pouring (2-3*) Service: we were served by 4 different waiters, which I find weird. Depending on who was serving the dishes, the explanation reached from extraordinary to literally 'that's basically leek and potatoes' (4*) Atmosphere: hard to have a conversation, music was too loud, the table behind us was very noisy, too. Selection of music was nice. Had bad luck with the table. We were seated right at the door at the bar. Not enough space - my knees we're touching the wall and from behind I could feel everyone passing by. Liked the interieur. (3*) Value for money: hard to say. I bet a lot of work goes into this kind of concept. In the end I was a little bit disappointed though. For that kind of money I would expect the sizes of the dishes slightly bigger and/or the quality of the drinks a lot finer. The ingredients itself were good quality but also not very pricy (potatoe, leek, pumpkin, bread, broth). It was an one time experience, certainly not a fine dining one though.
Third visit - every time has been 5 star.
Such lovely staff and super cool food and venue.
The food and drinks were really really delicious and creative. The people serving us were so friendly and informative. Thank you CUB!
Great vibes, beautiful restaurant and great food and drink. The cocktails with the set menu were great ( particularly the green bell pepper ) and the vegan food was absolutely top notch. The proximity of the chefs is great. My only slight note is I would have liked the chance to order some more drinks outside of the set menu drinks, or for them to be larger, as I felt the drinks were finished pretty instantly so there was a lot of time at the table without a drink, which I think shouldn’t be the case when paying 90 a head.
We came to cub for my girlfriends birthday and a really enjoyable experience, food was really interesting and the staff were friendly. I did think for the price (which racked up to a whopping £190 just for the two of us for a glass of wine each and the tasting course) was incredibly steep. The food was amazing and I completely understand the price is to do with the sourcing of the ingredients. However the portions were literally nibble sized and the drinks could definitely could have been a lot more flowing for the price. There were large stints where we'd drank our lovely but very tiny drink that was served for the course then left waiting on water for a fair amount of time. In this time we then needed something while we waited so we ordered 2 glasses of the house white, which turned out to be £14 a glass. No mention of this either, we are 23 years old surely a mention that a glass of wine is £14 should have come out somewhere? Anyway I would like to reiterate that the experience was great and really enjoyable however when hit with the almost £200 bill for 2 of us at the end, it did sour our experience and unfortunately I can't look back on it with the same happiness as I would have liked to. Thanks, Izaak Buffin.
Incredible food and lovely atmosphere. Had a wonderful evening. The only negative thing was that we left a bit hungry - but we both have big appetites so not everyone would.
Cub proved to be the perfect birthday experience. It is a truly special place as ethical as it is delectable. So much time and love served up with the fare. We had some challenging dietary requests and they were completely accommodating.
Delicious food and amazing service. Such unusual flavours 💕
Great from start to end
We ate at cub as a birthday treat for my girlfriend, sat at the open kitchen / bar and it was a wonderful evening. Top quality food, service and drinks. As big cocktail fans, we had high expectation for Ryan’s drinks, but the food was top too. While not a cheap dinner, a taster menu for £69 is good value too.
This is my second visit to Cub. There simply isn’t a dining experience like it in London.
Hello! Big fan of the restaurant - this is fourth time I’ve been. As ever, everything was yummy. Thank you! However, this was the first time I felt that in terms of value for money I wasn’t really satisfied.... When you’re not serving a more substantial meat course it feels very steep to spend best part of £200 on a meal. I love how you guys are using ingredients that would normally get thrown out and turning them into delicious creations, but what that also suggests it that these same ingredients aren’t very costly to obtain and that what the customer is paying for is the work that goes in to making them lovely to eat. Which I don’t underestimate! I suppose it would be a good idea if you offered the food menu on its own for a lower price, with the option to add drinks. As I say, I love the restaurant, just this was first time I have come away feeling unsatisfied, and whereas previous times I’ve been more than happy to spend the money this time I felt a little short changed. Hopefully next time will be different, and I really hope you take on board the separate food menu as I think lots of people would prefer this. All the best.
Excellent concept. The menu was the tits! Big flavours and big service. Such a Burns Night x
Our favourite restaurant in London. Such an original and responsible approach to eating out without ever compromising the quality of everything that is so meticulously prepared. And the people working at Cub are so welcoming and their passion for what they do shines through. Whilst I would love to keep it as my secret I cannot recommend Cub strongly enough. A real treat.
