About Crocker's Folly
The reopening of Crocker’s Folly has given London the chance to reacquaint itself with one of its most glorious edifices. A beautiful Grade II* listed former Victorian gin palace, complete with 50 kinds of marble, Romanesque columns, cut glass chandeliers and carved mahogany. Sympathetically and painstakingly restored, Crocker’s Folly has been reinvented by its owners, the renowned Maroush Group, as a stylish restaurant and bar serving traditional Lebanese food – complemented by a selection of wine and signature cocktails.
We had to wait for a while for the server and then for food so would have been nicer to get lunch a bit quicker but food was excellent. Also did not enjoy the fact that people were smoking around us, maybe it would be better to dedicate areas for that and separate nonsmokers.
Two old friends and I have eaten regularly at Crocker's Folly since before 2017; unfortunately, last Wednesday, there were several things wrong: a) we had lots of time to study the menus - service was very slow - but no one told us there was no fish at all available. All three of us had to hurriedly change our choices when we came to order. We had all wanted to select some of the fish dishes. b) after we had been seated for more than 40 minutes, we still had not got our starters; no explanation, no apology, no recompense. Not good enough. c) my starter (baba genoush) and my (mixed grill) main course were terrific, well up to standard, but the lady in my party did not think her lamb shish kebab was either juicy or tender. d) the wine was delicious and good value e) however, there was virtually no social distancing in evidence; drinkers, at the table next to us, passed by within 2 or 3 feet as they went regularly to replenish their pints; the person who served us, the manager, wore a mask around his neck instead of over his mouth and nose. He leant near to us, less than 2/3 feet as he put our plates of food in front of us. He must have breathed over the food as he delivered it. I have a compromised immune system because of cancer treatment. I am also quite old and very vulnerable to infections. I felt very insecure while I was with you and I will not come back or recommend you. You are not taking enough care to keep your customers safe from corona virus.
GRAB YOURSELF A CUPPA - I'M ABOUT TO SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY! Please do your research before spending hundreds of pounds on a restaurant which serves meat that is older than you and I. I am a regular diner in high end restaurants and hadn't been to Maroush for a number of years due to having a bad experience (gone off seafood). However, I thought I'd give this branch a go since reading good reviews. Oh boy do I regret it. NOTHING had changed! When we arrived we were sat in a dingy corner by the staff door despite being the only people in the restaurant. I did ask to be moved which was accommodated. It then came to ordering... We were given secondhand sticky menus which told me they had not been isolated/ wiped down, thus a huge breach of COVID regulations. My suspicions were confirmed when the waiter hurried us along with our order so he could give the new table our menus. I was absolutely shocked. Can you believe it only gets worse!! Our food arrived and the meat looked like it had been exhumed - it was GREY and smelt like meat that should've stayed buried. At this point me and my guests decided enough is enough and we asked for the bill. The waiter noticed we had not touched our food and I explained that I was not happy being served old meat that had been reheated (I come from a family of chefs - so I know my food). He was very apologetic and took 10% off of our bill. It was only after I left I realised that actually I shouldn't have paid for anything due to the lack of service and the fact the food had gone off. Our bill was in the hundreds so I took to social media to fix this. I was assured by Maroush they would look into this, but as expected, I was fobbed off and told that an INTERNAL team had gone to investigate its OWN restaurant, so it was unsurprising that it was the chefs word against ours. Moral of the story - there are so many restaurants in London why go here? Save yourself the money and hassle! Go to a place which prides themselves of customer service and good hearty food. Thanks for reading my review!
Lovely food in a gorgeous setting
Atmosphere was only less as we were the only people in the restaurant - others were outside. Thanks for a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
It was very cold and draughty in the dining room. Our food took 45 minutes to arrive. Too long. Our waiter was charming and very kind. I had not been to the restaurant for a long time and found the chicken livers not as tasty as before, and rather watery. The rest of our food was excellent.
Great food and atmosphere. Our waitress was very polite and helpful
Thank you for the great evening. Food and service were excellent. Definitely coming back.
We really enjoyed our dinner. Food was fab, service very attentive. Such a beautiful restaurant.
The food and service were excellent - a little on the pricey side but not exhorbitant and well worth it. Our only disappointment (hence 4 stars instead of 5) was that the juices described on the menu as 'freshly pressed' I believe, turned out to be produced at the restaurant chain's warehouse, which isn't quite the same, and all had sugar added. Also, I personally prefer waiting staff not to continually keep topping up our glasses, especially as they were trying to add tap water to my sparkling mineral water! I'm quite capable of topping up my own glass when I need to and apart from that find the slight interruption irritating. Apart from that, the staff were attentive without being intrusive, even moving us to another table as it was rather noisy since there was a large party near us - it was after all a Saturday evening - and we all enjoyed our meal.
Very nice atmosphere, lovely staff and excellent food!
Really good food in beautiful surroundings.
Great food and wine in a fascinating building with great service too. Quite quiet on the bank holiday Monday lunch, but that did not spoil the experience.
The place was empty for lunch. We requested a nice table. We given a random long table by the door. We asked for it to be changed. Considering it was totally empty they could have seated us at a better place. Staff was not interested. Kept saying section closed. We were there for a celebration. NEVER AGAIN. No parking. A freak to get there. Then this problem.
Thanks, beautiful food.
Very quiet when we were there. Service a little too pushy but food and Lebanese wine were good so definitely going again.
Lovely meal, great service, had a really enjoyable evening - will definitely return, many thanks!
Phenomenal food and service absolutely brilliant x
Food was very fresh tasting and nice serving sizes.
Food was excellent, great setting.
Great food and super nice service. Will return!
We were expecting a gastro pub and were delighted to discover a beautiful restaurant. The staff were delightful and helpful too. The meze starters were delicious and authentic but we were disappointed with the mixed grill main course. Not very much meat, just a skewer of minced lamb, one skewer of chicken and 2 tiny lamb chops and it came with no salad or rice - both had to be added as side dishes. Will certainly return and make different main course choice
Would be nice if the lighting in dining area was dimmed a bit more at nights.
Amazing, fresh and tasty food!Highly recommended for private and business dinners
The whole impression is of a place that has lost its will (if it ever had it) to be anything more than adequate.
