About Countryman Inn
The Countryman is surrounded by stunning open countryside set close to the small village of Shipley, the 3,500 acres of farmland owned by the Knepp Castle Estate provides the perfect backdrop for a pub lunch in the beer garden or an evening in front of the fireplace.
Inside you’ll find warming log fires in the winter, and cask conditioned Harvey’s and Organic Horsham ales in the cosy bar, together with over 30 wines from around the world.
As we do not have a dedicated play area or family room with high chairs we apologise if you find our restaurant is not suitable for very young children. However, you are more than welcome to bring your own personal booster seats for younger diners/children.

Had a really lovely Sunday roast.
Great meal and good friendly service as always
We had a very nice experience with great food and service.
Probably chose wrong dish but it was not brilliant. Pasta with crab and mussels. Lots of cherry tomatoes, Lots of Penne. Been here several times and usually pretty good. Serving staff very good but not impressed with this dish. Not particularly value for money. Apple Charlotte desert surely should be sponge. More like a Yorkshire pudding. Will come again and hope for better. Espresso coffee was cold. Our fault not to tell staff as could have been rectified.
Great service and food, just a problem with the Sun on table four. Could have done with a vlivnvn
Everything was superb as always👍
Superb food..... excellent Old Ale. Service exceptional! Thank you all.
Enjoyed the pub and meal, little expensive for pub food. Would revisit though in the summer
The food was lovely but I think the pub is struggling between being a restaurant v pub food. The decor is dated. The music also very old fashioned. Have been previously and it was more up market ambience. The service was excellent and the food very tasty. Staff were very friendly. A nice experience but more a lunch venue or meal after work.
Food was very good.
Always good food, staff and atmosphere. Probably one of the best pubs for consistency.
Lovely Inn with good choice of food including fresh fish selection enjoyed with Ales and wine :)
Lovely welcome from friendly and cheerful staff. Food was excellent and plentiful. It was mentioned it was my birthday and when my dessert was brought Happy Birthday was written on the plate in chocolate. A delightful idea.
A very enjoyable evening. Excellent meal and service. We will certainly be returning.
I’ve food and atmosphere but a bit off the beaten track
Very good food and attentive staff. Food very good and did not feel hurried to leave. Will defiantly come again and recommend to friends. This was not our first visit and cannot wait to come again.
Lovely food, great service- thank you.
Always great food. Have eaten with you a few times. Tend to find the service a bit slow - firstly to get a drink and then to order. Once the first course has arrived everything flows smoothly. Those serving are always really friendly and pleasant though. Will be eating with you again soon. Best wishes Kathy
Great place to eat, loved the waitresses sense of humour. Nice to eat in a pub where you can have a conversation and not have to compete with background noise. Brilliant menu fir those who are gluten free. Will definitely visit again.
Lovely roast dinners, veg lukewarm which was a shame. Had to make a couple of choices to sweet as chosen one sold out. Had to ask for paper towels for to dry hands in ladies. Overall we enjoyed our visit & would definitely eat there again.
A quiet Monday evening visit but, even so, the food and service were still at their usual high standards.
I had heard about the The Countryman Inn on BBC Surrey (southern counties) Radio. We were not disappointed. The food, drink and service were all top notch. The venison and pheasant pie was to die for. We’ll be back.
Great as always
Very friendly staff. Good quality food. Varied menu.
Never disappointed. We had a lovely family meal here on Christmas Eve. Lovely atmosphere but not too noisy which is important as my Dad has Alzheimer's. Great food and drink, friendly efficient service
