About Countryman Inn
The Countryman is surrounded by stunning open countryside set close to the small village of Shipley, the 3,500 acres of farmland owned by the Knepp Castle Estate provides the perfect backdrop for a pub lunch in the beer garden or an evening in front of the fireplace.
Inside you’ll find warming log fires in the winter, and cask conditioned Harvey’s and Organic Horsham ales in the cosy bar, together with over 30 wines from around the world.

Quality food. Good value. Good waiting staff. Outside tables, chairs and benches require face lift.
A friend and I enjoyed a very tasty lunch on 15 July. The menu includes several choices of gluten-free starters, mains and desserts, which was essential as my friend is gluten intolerant (coeliac). We will return!
Great country pub with excellent fish
Great food as always
We had a lovely evening as always , the food was excellent and the service was brilliant
Will be visiting again soon.
Four of us thoroughly enjoyed our time, meal & chat with staff.
We booked (necessary) for a Sunday lunch. It was very busy but we didn't wait too long to be served. The food was delicious and fresh. The waitresses were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely return.
Lovely lunch as always, thanks to the team See you in a couple of weeks
I think the waitress was new as she got a bit confused with our friends orders. However it didn't spoil our experience. One thing I would mention is that if someone says they don't want vegetables with their scollops then as they are paying it should be accepted, Not be told you have to choose between boiled, mashed or chips and also a veg such as peas, carrots etc. We like coming to the Countryman Inn but you could learn a lot from the Alford Barn at Cranleigh. Good Service is important.
Had a lovely meal and adapted the menu for my wife who is lactose and gluten free it was nice for her to have a desert that wasn’t sorbet
Service was very good. Very friendly people. Lamb Cassoulet portion size was small.
A great pub with reasonably priced food. The food itself was first rate. My husband especially enjoyed the pork belly. We will no doubt be back. 😀
Thoroughly enjoyed our three-course meals for two. Excellent rib-eye steaks - No need for any sauces as the meat was very tender and tasty on its own account. Generous and sweet portions of vine tomatoes complemented the steaks. Both starters and desserts were good. Harveys beer well kept. Service was friendly and efficient. Comfortable table. Shame about the slight mix-up on the bill right at the end, but that was partly due to my (obviously) not annunciating clearly to the waiting staff and not using my reading glasses when paying by credit card! Have used the Countryman for around twelve years and always had a meal here that was either good or very good. Will definitely be returning later this summer. First time have been asked to submit a review.
Lovely food, great friendly service as always
Really enjoyed our visit. Lovely setting, food and good service from waiting staff. 4 stars because lamb was slightly chewy, coke expensive and very sweet, landlord didn't acknowledge us on entry to the pub and left us waiting, no happy birthday to my husband who was wearing a badge and I had informed when booking.
Excellent food; the steaks in particular are outstanding.
Excellent roast and bread and butter pudding was divine. Excellent service, lots of staff serving and all with a smile!
Excellent food (with very generous portions!) and good choice of Menu. Hadn't visited here for a while, so really pleased that the high standard has been retained!
Thoroughly enjoyable apart from piped jazz music ..not my favourite.
Two of us enjoyed a delicious lunch whilst sitting in the sunshine in the pub's garden. Will definitely revisit.
Another lovely meal at this pub.
Our waitress was hard pressed but remained calm and charming throughout.
