About Cookai Japanese Restaurant
CooKai (‘Kuu Kai ’) are Japanese words for ‘Sky’ and ‘Sea’. In the respects of natural beauty, our Japanese chefs use traditional Japanese cooking techniques to bring out the essence of nature: fresh and seasonable flavour from ingredients sourced locally and from Japan.
We offer comprehensive traditional Japanese food 7 days a week.
Food was awesome! I had the tempura chicken dish and a few nibbles off the ‘train’. There were six of us and everyone loved the food they ordered. The service was impeccable and the lady was so lovely. We will definitely be back!
Drink menu and food menu were really good but they did not have Orion and one Chardonnay on the list in stock which was shame. Sashimi was absolutely beautiful but the sushi for rice was quite bad, even my kids recognized that was not good sushi rice, that would something you can improve ! Otherwise all great!!!! I find not many places use good rice but it is really shame for who knows what food rice is.
Beautiful food and great service, will be returning soon.
Had a lovely time here for my daughter's bday. Kids loved it!
Great place, great food.
Absolutely amazing took my husband for his birthday, staff are so welcoming and such an awesome place to go. We have never been to a food train and the food was awesome thank you very much. Was well worth the trip in.
Very lovely atmosphere! Great variety of meals for everyone.
My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here. I love Japanese food whereas my husband has some hesitation with raw fish but amazingly he enjoyed every bit of it. He ate more than I did. We went for 6pm dinner and Cookai paid for our parking ticket at The Crossing. Will definitely be back again.
Really nice place and delicious food, best sushi in CHC, although lucky for me I came during happy hour as I thought the prices are a little high. But again, the food was really perfect
We loved the sushi train... Having the option to pick as you go was awesome. Things start to add up after a few but it is worth it. It caters to seafood lovers of course but has some tasty wee meat lovers morsels. I tried the ramen and unfortunately didn't hit the mark for me and the noodles seemed to be 2 minute. Half our group had the pork belly as it is a family fave and whilst the flavours were there the skin had no crunch to it so hadn't been sear to create a semi crackling after being slow cooked. In saying all of the above our group will definitely be back on a Tuesday for the all you can eat which we are excited about as we absolutely enjoyed ourselves and loved a lot of the other wee dishes
It was delicious and great value for money. Will definitely be coming back!
