About Colonel Porters Emporium
Back in the day, Master Brewer Colonel porter teamed up with Chief Chemist Archie Jones to create Newcastle Brown Ale (ala Dog, Journey into Space, Lunatic’s Broth). In this Emporium we celebrate this fine feat. Join us for a schooner. You’ll also find vintage cocktails, Tipsy Teas, real ales, rum masterclasses and fancy feasts.
Really happy with the service we received in the courtyard on a busy bank holiday Sunday. It was a lovely atmosphere and we were under a cover when the rain started. Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were very attentive to ordering drinks and addressing behaviour of other customers. The only negative feedback would be that there was quite a strong drain smell which was a bit off putting at times.
We had a good time despite being outside in the rain, food was ok but frozen chips Very few vegan options unlike other bars in town. Didnt like that the £40 deposit wasnt refundable only transferrable
Staff were amazing, great drinks and good friendly atmosphere
Didn’t realise the little garden out the back was there, great little spot
Staff very friendly and efficient garden was lovely and cosy
Staff were friendly and efficient. Lovely place, thank you!
Great service. Can’t wait to book again.
Prompt and friendly service unlike the previous bar we had been in which was refreshing and lovely. Only issue was the slight smell of drains in the back terrace seating area but it didn’t spoil our afternoon at all.
Staff for brilliant, worked so well
Everything was great apart from the heavy metal seats with no back and the big lump in the front SO UNCOMFORTABLE but apart from that great night. Please change the seats
Excellent service from bubbly waitress
wonderfully friendly staff! would like some more food choices on the menu but the extensive drinks and cocktails selection more than makes up for it and what they do serve is very tasty! Been multiple times and will definitely keep coming back. :)
Amazing cocktails service and atomesphere
The toilets are a big let down it’s a great place but they were disgusting need a good overhaul, the hygiene, well there was no hygiene there was no hand sanitizer no washing soap, heater no working no hot water and filthy floors and filthy urinals. That’s was let’s you down with . People demand a hygienic place to wash there hands with. I hope you take this on as constructive criticism. It’s never been a clean place.
We really enjoyed sitting in the sun having our delicious tipsy afternoon tea. I would definitely book this again.
From the posts on Instagram and FB I was led to believe I was booking a table on the terrace. Instead for a table of 2 and for £40 we were seated in the street. No one came to take our order, I had to get up and go and ask however after this the service was better. I think it needs to be made clearer what is being booked particularly when charging per person. Drinks were good, food was average.
Really great service
I had 2x virgin pina coladas, first was in a tall glass and had good amount in but the second was in a stemmed glass and felt like 2 sips and it was gone as it had that much ice in it. We had sharing appetisers. All were good apart from the halloumi wrapped in parma ham. Was a bit soggy.
Very straightforward experience.
We all had a really good night and the drinks were lovely
Very coureous staff
The service was outstanding. Did our appetisers and main come together? Yes. Did we wait longer than normal for food? Yes. However every single staff member went above and beyond on what was only the second weekend since opening. They were polite and friendly and everything was done with a smile.
Amazing environment, very well maintained and great service
