Cocoro means 'the heart and soul' in Japanese, we have chosen this name because we aim at providing our food and service with all our heart and soul.
cocoro is located on a quiet side street off the busy Ponsonby Road, in an old brick building. The restaurant seats a maximum of 40 people with tables along the walls, and a large communal table in the middle.
The large communal table is designed so that couples or smaller groups sit on the same side next to each other for a more intimate experience.
At dinner service, we place our focus on providing an "ichi-go ichi-e" experience with our course menus, therefore reservations are only taken with one of our 3 course menus, the Degustation course, the Sushi & Sashimi course. and our Signature course.
A la carte menu is available for dinner with our 'Tapas' menu but reservation will not be taken.
We are also open for lunch services with a la carte menu, reservations are welcome.
Our wine list covers wines from New Zealand and other parts of the world with an emphasis on organic/biodynamic varieties. We also have a wide range of Japanese Sake, only "Jun Mai" pure rice sake is served.
Qualité, originalité et authenticité exceptionnelles.
I have dined at Cocoro a few times and even though the last time was 3 years ago I was very disappointed with the serving sizes. Certainly not value for money. Food is divine but not value for what you pay
Love this tucked away Japanese experience...this is our second time, and we will be back again to try your degustation delights..
Fantastic food, great atmosphere would highly recommend
As usual superb
delightful evening very accommodating of special dietary requests beautiful food
Very pleasant and personable service at Cocoro. You feel very welcome, yet the approach is professional genuine Japanese efficiency and respect. Meal was beautifully presented with amazing flavors. Sake selection very good. Highly recommend to anyone wishing for a special occasion, or for a refreshing experience at what real service is supposed to be.
We had a truly stunning evening at Cocoro last night. The Sashimi platter was another level of decadence - all the seafood had been treated to respectfully, displayed beautifully and was so fresh. The service was informative and kind. All the staff were fantastically friendly and overly respectful. Hiro suggested some fantastic drinks options which were exceptional and just delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was equal levels of serenity and energy - a hard thing to achieve! Overall we had a 10 out of 10 experience last night that we wont forget and will definitely be back to repeat. Kate and Ben.
Manager kept standing in front behind us which was a little distressing. Not sure if he was doing it to kind of hurry us up or not but this was the only criticism of the night. Food was really good and descriptions/explanations were also nice.
Outstanding food and service, a memorable dining experience!
Cocoro is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is always fresh and beautifully presented. Every plate presented is an artistic work of art and tastes exquisite. Service is faultless and staff are very informed about food and drink. Hiro -the Maître de is friendly, warm, efficient and the perfect person for front of house!
Excellent service, friendly staff, perfectly timed food - overall great experience.
