Good service, good food, reasonably priced wine - what is there not to like?
Very pleasant lunch for 10, nice atmosphere, excellent service and good food. Wine list generally pricey but we had a very pleasant couple down the cheaper end! Overall cost on a par with others nearby. Would happily return.
I booked with a colleague for a quick lunch before an afternoon of meetings. Lovely staff, food was great. Would highly recommend 😄
A group of 7 of us had lunch here last Friday (a thank you for some clients), and I think we eventually rolled out about 5pm (from a 12.30pm booking). The food, drinks and service were all excellent and it really makes the difference to be in a cosy independent rather than a charmless chain. It was an all-round fab experience and we hope to be back very soon.
Food was fantastic. Interesting cocktails and really fun staff. Definitely would recommend to a friend and will be going back again very soon.
Absolutely superb meal. Starter was really tasty and the main course was also fabulous. Loved the decor and service was very attentive. 100% recommend and will definitely come back soon.
The creamed artichokes with crispy skins and parmesan were deliciously novel. The crispy egg with an orange yolk and the smoothest of cod’s roe should become a Clifford’s signature dish it is so yummy. The starters were followed by venison and grouse beautifully cooked with rosti and seasonal vegetables. This is modern British cooking at its best.
Always a great place for lunch - we were a group of 4 and everyone enjoyed their food. I was particularly impressed by my Jerusalem artichoke starter, and beef bourguignon for main. My guests adored their puddings!
Everything was great - the service, the food and the ambiance! The portions were very generous and presented beautifully. I had the rib steak and the meat was so tender! Truly a hidden gem and can be used for all sorts of occasions.
Well cooked, good quality food with friendly attentive service. Really good spot for a working lunch if you are in the area. Homemade strawberries and cream ice cream was exceptional!!
I booked Clifford’s for a special family meal and I was really pleased that I did. The starters were delicious. Service was great too. However, the real highlight was a venison shank sharing dish with puréed and roasted pumpkin as well as maple bacon on the side. The portion was so generous - they kindly let us take some leftovers home. Was too good to leave! Really interesting wine list with a particularly good Pinot Noir from Oregon. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.
Hi Rosie We had a lovely time in the restaurant yesterday but there are some feedback points to be given. I think it was down to the serving lady being a little inexperienced or that would be my guess. Here are the points: * wasn't fast enough on the drink pouring - we were happy to pour our own but we would have probably drank more if our glasses were permanently topped *messed up an order for the late guest *did not number the order so was not sure who ordered what - if she had placed a number against each of us on her slip and worked from left to right she could have really impressed us with getting all our orders right * sides came late which she could have done a check on when she had laid down all the mains * The food was good but the vension did not work with the pumpkin and the steak was pretty fatty Thank you Anja
I think the food, drink menu and service were all excellent. The atmosphere was a bit dead though, mainly due to only being about 1/3 rd full. I came across you by accident so maybe some more marketing to local firms would be useful to get your covers count up!
Lovely spot for a delicious lunch in the city.
Food from the daily 3-course set menu was excellent - all courses. Most importantly, it was reasonably priced - that's what I valued the most. Service from waiter was efficient and friendly. Manager was very reasonable and understanding by accepting to swap the roast lamb with roast chicken for the set menu options. Atmosphere was cosy and appropriate for a relaxed business lunch. I'll certainly recommend and return.
We came on Friday afternoon for lunch and sat on the mezzanine. A really nice table, however the rest of the restaurant was quite quiet. Food and service were excellent!
Clifford’s has filled a real void in the local area. Proper food, proper cocktails and proper wine. The service is second to none. Every cocktail we had was off menu. Great place for after work drinks and bar snacks (as well as lunch and dinner). Lovely upstairs area, perfect for private dining/groups. Our new local.
Great spot in the city for a work lunch or catch up with friends. Menu is simple but varied - classic dishes with a twist. Really recommend
Another very good evening at Clifford's. Classic food with a contemporary twist. Great service and helpful friendly staff.
Great food, friendly service. Will come back.
Great event, amazing canapés and cocktails!
We had the lunchtime 2 course set menu, which was tasty and excellent value. The pork with pickled apricots is an inspired combination...absolutely delicious. I was just sorry I didn’t have room for dessert! I understand the place is open in the evenings for cocktails and bar snacks alongside the restaurant, so will perhaps give that a go next time.
A hidden 'Gem'. Will be returning soon.
Thank you very much for your review. Kind Regards, Clifford's
We had a very lovely lunch at Cliffords. Fab food and very attentive staff. Good value too as we chose from the 2 courses for £17.
