About Chubby Cherub
If you have ever been to the cafes and restaurants of italy you will observe the small, compact and quaint nature of autentic italian café culture.
The chubby cherub is designed with this premise in mind.
We are a small intimate venue and therefore space is at a premium. Elbow room in some cases is not aforded for large groups however, we feel this makes the chubby cherub experience much better
We arrived for our table at 6 as booked, we were told unapologetically by a brisk waitress we would need to eat out on the street under a broken umbrella (it was a wet day) as she couldn't guarantee when we would get a table despite paying a deposit. When we politely expressed our displeasure, we were told "we are doing our best" and were left to sit outside and not offered a drink or menu. We did eventually get a table inside the patio. Service was slow, but food was up to the usual high standard. I know these are very trying times for businesses, but wait staff should make an effort to make customers feel welcome by offering to take an order for a drink and apologise if there is a delay. I think there were new wait staff on so maybe they just need some extra training.
Staff were lovely and very helpful but it was very expensive!!
We had a great time in very difficult conditions for the staff - they were obviously working very hard to ensure all safety regs were adhered to .
Beautiful meal in outdoor setting - even though it was raining, there was an outdoor heater set up and the staff made us feel very welcome. The pizza was delicious!
Food was delightful. Was very disappointed with the service as we waited about 30 mins on our wine coming to table. As it was the 1st night of reopening it wouldn't put us off coming back again as the staff tried their very best under pressure.
Best restaurant in Belfast. Drinks too quite some time to arrive to the table. Food outstanding, and service good as always
Expensive for what it was. Requested a table in the covered terrace and upon arrival was sat outside on the street. When we asked to move as that is what we had requested when booking, we were told that guests not seated yet took priority (even if they hadn’t booked). Starters took 40 mins to come - olives and bread. Probably the best part of the experience was the starters when they eventually came. Main meal was pretty tasteless. Service charge was added for a table of 2 people which was not really earned and ridiculous for a table of 2 - some of the best restaurants in Belfast don’t add a service charge unless it is a table for over 6 people. Also VAT for alcohol was added separately to the bill - on top of the price for the drink. Our waiter was lovely but it was clear that there was a lack of management and organisation, it was overpriced and a bit rude to ask for a service charge in this scenario. Not impressed.
Great service, great and safe set-up COVID permitting. Food was amazing and was well worth the price. Food was bought quickly and we enjoyed it throughly
Gnocchi was amazing.
Booked a table for valentines day and paid the £20 deposit. A week later the covid restrictions were expanded, meaning it would not be possible for the restaurant to honour my reservation. On this basis I enquired about potentially getting a refund for the deposit. My request was completely ignored and i received no response. Then a month later I receive an email asking me to rate the food and ask if I would recommend them. Disgusting customer service.
One of the best restaurants in Belfast. Food/drinks from start to finish were beautiful. Would be nice to have a bigger whisky section though, but would recommend "The Godfather" to whisky fans. Quite expensive but was well worth it and would pay it again. Staff were very nice and helpful, though seemed to be a disconnect in communication. The atmosphere made it even more special. Definitely be visiting again.
Extremely poor service and quality. I booked a table for 4 people, the booking was changed to two people due to two people in isolation due to coronavirus. When we arrived it was clear it was a busy evening. My partner and I were placed in a 2 person booth right next to the staff cooking and waitresses hoovering around. There was absolutely no social distancing in place and I felt extremely uncomfortable in the seats. We asked the waitress could we be moved, we were advised there were no tables available. I expressed there was no social distancing in place and i was not happy, this was not taking on board or no suggestions put into place. The food was poor. The bill arrived and we were advised as we had booked for 4 and paid a £40 deposit we could only have £20 off the bill as the deposit was non refundable, which I accept is the case. However the booking was changed and we were placed at a 2 seater booth. There was alot of back and forth from the manager to the waitress, not once did the management come to the table and speak to us. In the end it was resolved that the £40 was credited of our bill. The waitress serving the table was a lovely lady, who was extremely embarrassed by the situation herself. My main concern is the lack of social distancing, the table we where placed at should not be in use at all. This table should be out of use, it is to close to all the staff. Especially when they are back and forth picking up meals and standing waiting. Not happy with how it was dealt with, it was ignored. Poor customer service, lack of awareness in social distancing with staff. Very poor all round. Manager a very rude woman with poor customer service skills.
Amazing food and drinks would hight recommend! Staff were fantastic
Manager was lovely and very welcoming which set the tone for the evening. Great food, great drinks and beautiful interior. Will definitely be back.
We were really looking forward to our meal here after hearing good reviews and seeing the extensive cocktail menu on the website, with impressive photos. However on the night, options were very limited and we had to reorder several times for both food and drinks as items on the menu were unavailable. While I appreciate that stock might be limited given the current situation, it would be useful to inform the customer which options aren’t available before ordering. I had to reorder both my main course and cocktail 3 times due to lack of availability - it would be useful if all staff were made aware of what items were out of stock to prevent the need to reorder several times. After taking our food order electronically, the system crashed so the waiter came back to retake the order with pen and paper, which was not his fault at all and we were very understanding. Another member of staff then rolled her eyes at this waiter and condescendingly took over the order, shooing him away. This was very unprofessional and very uncomfortable for us to witness... she was then very abrupt and spoke over us as we tried to explain what we had originally ordered. She unapologetically told us ‘no ravioli’ ‘no gnocchi’ and ‘no beef’, which meant 4 out of 6 had to make another choice. Only 5 out of 6 of the party received their starters at one time - 2 waiters were made aware and did not report back to the table to let us know what was happening. By the time the final starter arrived, everyone else had finished theirs. This was very embarrassing and made everyone else feel guilty for eating their starters. For the large amount of food and drinks we ordered, we expected better, more attentive and professional service, especially when a 10% service charge was added automatically to the bill. Despite this, all the food served was delicious and I can only hope that the numerous inconveniences on the night were a one off and unlikely to happen on another occasion.
Fantastic service. Food was was lovely, staff were polite and helpful.
Tables too close together, some tables had screens between them but not all. Employees also standing too close to customers. Uncomfortable experience due to inadequate distancing. Won’t be back during covid times at least. Food was good and employees were polite
Lovely to get out. Great staff and food lovely.
The food was lovely, can't fault it, cocktails were a bit too pricey for what they were. Service was appalling. Despite having booked a table we had to wait 30mins after being seated to he served. We were not even offered any water while we waited. I myself also work in hospitality and this service was unacceptable, even if the restaurant is busy they could've atleast took our drinks order. Further more the wait inbetween courses was also very long. It is disappointing when the food is excellent but the service can't meet the same standard. No apology was given either, due to this we requested that the service charge be taken off.
We booked a table at the Chubby Cherub after seeing it on Instagram and were really looking forward to our meal out, but unfortunately we were very disappointed. We arrived early but we were told the table wasn’t ready and there was no where we could go even just for a drink - this was understandable as it was a Sunday night, however when we came back at our reservation time people were sitting outside having drinks (this area was empty when we arrived earlier and was still largely empty at this point too) which wasn’t even offered to us as an option. We ordered a bread board and garlic crostini for starters - there was no selection of breads and the bread was cold. We ordered two pizzas for mains which took a while to come and were very doughy and dry when they arrived as if undercooked. The waitress took our drinks menu off us to give to another table and didn’t bring it back to us so we were unable to chose and order drinks until we eventually got a member of staffs attention to bring us back the menu. When we finally did, I ordered a cocktail however after waiting over 25 minutes this never arrived and we asked for the bill as our plates had been cleared - the cocktail wasn’t on the bill and when I asked the waitress about this she asked who I ordered with and was apologetic regarding this, however didn’t do anything to resurrect the situation. In addition, several things we ordered were not available including mushrooms and several cocktails.
Nice food and good service. Seats are a little cramped
We went to the chubby cherub on Sunday the 20th and unfortunately we were sat facing the bartender station where there was a noisy diswasher and constant sounds of things being thrown into the bins :( we had to wait slightly on our drinks which wasn’t too bad but the woman working offered us some water that we never got to our table. We ordered a classic carbonara and ended up with a mushroom carbonara with no pancetta which was disappointing as we were excited to try the classic after hearing good things from friends. Wish we had a better experience as the restaurant itself is beautiful !
Had to wait 72minutes for a table, then only had 55minutes to eat our food, had to order drinks 3times before they arrived, food was salty, generally poor, food was rushed because of the long wait. Would have been happier cooking my own meal for 70 quid than the disappointing service and experience we had. Thank you for the apology we received also.
