About Christie's Bistro
Welcome to Christie’s Bistro – perhaps one of the University of Manchester’s most breath taking venues. Based in the old Science Library of Owens College, it still remains one of the institutions’, if not Manchester’s best hidden gem.
Christie’s is the perfect place to relax with friends and colleagues. We offer a chilled lounge area to sit and enjoy light bites, artisan coffees and cold drinks, or a more formal dining a la carte restaurant.
We have a range of food options available throughout the day.
• Breakfast / Brunch is available from 8am until 11.30am
• Lunch in our Lounge or Restaurant is served between 12noon and 3pm.
• Afternoon Tea is available between 2pm – 4pm.
The Bistro is also available for private bookings in the evening and at weekends. Please get in touch to discuss options for parties, weddings, and receptions.
Lovely surroundings, great food, good service
Relaxing atmosphere and good food.
Our guest really liked the surroundings the Restaurant was situated in, the friendly staff, he also enjoyed the food and the ambience.
Very nice place near University of Manchester. The staff was excelent and olso the food.
Waited over half an hour upon ordering our food (just a sandwich-type dish). When you're using your lunch hour it's a long time to wait.
A lovely setting with a nice atmosphere.
Great venue, the diversity of foods is limited.
The team at Christie's made the afternoon tea sitting that I had booked for my family a truly memorable experience. I want to personally thank both Grace and Sandra for their efforts in making the whole process effortless in terms of booking and executing the service itself. The presentation was wonderful and we really felt catered for and looked after throughout the service. The level of customer support I received from Sandra in particular, straight from the point of my initial inquiries, constituted and continued to deliver a level of professionalism and approachability that really stood out to me and has left me with nothing but the highest recommendations for the team at Christie's, and the experience as a whole. Many thanks!
Friendly and helpful people served us and helped woith all our party getting served quickly
My son works at the university so it was a great place to meet up. Very relaxed with good food and service.
Waitress spilled a small jug of milk all over me and the table, didn't accept responsibility and didn't appear again. This could happen to anyone, but the way the staff handled the situation was absurd. New manager seemed most amused by my milk-soaked trousers and suede shoes. Given free coffee as compensation, but this doesn't cover the cost of shoe cleaning. Bring your waterproofs.
we really liked the food, however the service was terrible. We booked the table and were waiting to be seated, the waiter walked pass us but did not pay a single attention. An improvement on service would be appreciated
Nice food, but over-priced. Slow and chaotic service
Service was quite slow. Food a bit expensive for what you get. However, food was very tasty.
very organised and pleasant staff.
Delicious afternoon tea
Forgot an order for soup and cheese and crackers to follow so I had to ask when everyone else had been served, also had to ask for a glass of prosecco for a late arrival. Choice of cakes not so appealing could have been better and more of a variety
What a lovely environment to have lunch. Perfect for a quiet business lunch with colleagues. The presentation of the food was exquisite. Four of us had monkfish and it was very nice. The fish was a little rubbery. Quite expensive given the fish portion was tiny more the size for a starter than a main course. The service was both discreet and good quality.
Adam Woof, the Manager at Christie Bistro is professional, welcoming and overseas his staff with a smile - love Christie's ! Jackie
Could do with more vegetarian options on the menu - there wasn't much choice for one of my guests. Otherwise service was very good and the food we had was lovely.
Food took FOREVER to come. We were starting to joke about whether someone was chasing a cow around the quad trying to catch it to cook. The steaks when they came were not just pepper steak, but PEPPER steak. Two of us ordered it, and it was a bit of a challenge to eat. The joke then was that it hadn't been so much seasoned as violently assaulted with a pepper mill. The starter, though, was excellent. Quite exquisite.
The food was amazing and we understood that our wait was due to this. However, the portions were far too small thus the above comment for VfM.
The food was delicious and the service excellent
