About Chilston Park Hotel
While the setting of Culpeper’s Restaurant in Kent is traditional – intricately designed with a Wedgwood blue colour scheme – the fine dining is all about enjoyment. Much of our food is sourced locally from coast and farm to ensure the purest flavour. Fine dining in Kent at its best.
Our menu is classic English with a 21st Century twist. Expect fresh, seasonal ingredients and an enticing range of regional dishes. While the setting of the restaurant is traditional, Culpeper’s is in the original dining room of the house, dining is all about easy-going enjoyment. Dishes change regularly to incorporate the best local ingredients with current favourites such as sirloin of beef and dover sole. To accompany your meal, delve into the wine list – our experienced team will be happy to guide you through our selection, including our rare whiskies and brandies.
Always a most enjoyable experience.
Great service and food
We were so impressed with everything that Chilston Park has to offer. Food was fantastic and what impressed myself is that the food is sourced locally. We enjoyed Afternoon Tea, Dinner in the evening and breakfast in the morning. It was simply wonderful.
Took my friends visiting from the states for afternoon tea to give a real british experience, it didn't disappoint and was a lovely afternoon. I also had my 2.5 year old and the staff were fantastic and very good with him and also the grounds are great to run around in.
I bought afternoon tea as a gift to celebrate a birthday. My guests enjoyed the tea but at the end of the experience realised they hadn’t been offered a glass of champagne which I’d told them they would receive & which I’d paid for as part of the package. They had to ask twice for this which I think is fairly poor. It was intended as a gift & instead they had to ask repeatedly for part of the package & should have been offered as part of the tea not when they had finished. I’d encourage you to look at the booking details for guests to ensure you are serving them correctly. The rationale they were given was the server hadn’t looked at the email.
Although the location is very pretty, we sat in a drawing room with no view. It was a warm day but the room was chilly and very quiet, no music playing, with people being shown around for their upcoming wedding walking in and out and not closing the door to the outside. We'd gone for my mums 85th birthday, and we'd all dressed up but she had to sit on a cushion as the sofa was really too low and the other people in there eating were in jeans and t-shirts. The staff did make an effort for her birthday with some truffle chocolates which was a lovely surprise. The afternoon tea was very nice, but we all felt the scones were too dry. A lovely selection of sandwiches and cakes though. I ordered a Diet Coke at one point but it never arrived. I wish we had asked to go in to the dining room with a proper table and chairs, but we're British and typically never make a fuss. Good value for money although I wasn't impressed with the location.
Excellent service, will be back again! Missing it already!
Very attentive staff, lovely food and surroundings
Took ages to get served and what service we did receive was sporadic and unenthusiastic with staff having poor service etiquette and knowledge of what was on offer or what they were serving. Coffee was served cold, hot chocolate was luke warm and served in a tea pot and the waiter didn’t even know it was hot chocolate, I asked what the water was for as we asked for coffee and hot chocolate and he said he’d go and check! We ordered afternoon tea which took ages to come and quite frankly wasn’t that great. The jam had white lumps in, either mould or someone else’s cream so that had to go back but service was so poor I had to keep walking over and asking for things. Even tap water was an effort to bring over. When I paid the bill there was no detailed breakdown so no transparency of costs and they added a £5+ service charge. When I queried why the bill was higher than expected someone reluctantly printed it for me to see but the girl who took payment just gave attitude and asked if I had a problem, well actually, yes I do, your attitude, service and downright disappointing experience. Up in the night with a dodgy stomach .... pretty certain it was caused by the food given the standard of service received. Hugely disappointing.
We had afternoon tea as a group of 8 with you on Saturday 13th July at 1.30pm booked under Fenton. We were all very unhappy with the experience we received. This is due to the following: I had to get up to ask staff for milk, then sugar which should have been supplied when the tea came out. I then had to get up again to ask for more cream/jam as not enough supplied for 8 people. The scones were overcooked and crusty these should be soft. The jam was very runny with little flavour. The cakes were of poor quality and the majority of these were left because of this. I then had to ask for refill on water and tea, at no time did anyone ask us if we required anything else. Which spoilt what should have been an enjoyable occasion, which our previous visit had been, which is why we returned. As this cost a lot of money with service charge on top, we then had a man that did not check our bill, was a little bit rude and did not ask how our afternoon tea was. This has spoilt it all for us, as we were going to book again for Christmas afternoon tea. I look forward to hearing your response. Kind regards Kirstie Fenton
Had a lovely evening
We were well looked after from start to finish. When making the booking we forgot to ask for a vegetarian option so we asked the waiter and within ten minutes he brought over a fresh selection of 5 different vegetarian sandwiches. We were left alone to relax and enjoy our afternoon tea and as it was a lovely sunny day we finished off our visit with a walk around the grounds. I would highly recommend Chilston Park and will definitely be returning. Thank you
Brilliant meal and service. Only 4 stars for atmosphere as there were not many people in on the Thursday evening. Would definitely recommend and will be back, maybe to stay next time. Thanks
Service was a little slow but overall we had a good time.
We have already recommended the afternoon tea at the hotel to,someone else.
We had a wonderful afternoon, thank you for everything
Excellent cream tea and champagne
A lot of cream in cakes it would be better to have some sponge or Madeira cakes or some small flapjacks etc
Beautiful Hotel. All the staff was welcoming and friendly. Culpeppers was lovely
Food was ok, nothing I really special with the sandwiches, scones were nice but not enough jam to go around. Velvet cake was a bit dry and disappointed that the Prosecco wasn’t included in the price. Overall it was nothing special for the price paid .also our tea came out at the same time as the Prosecco which was completely silly and we had to get up and find staff to ask for more drinks. Some work needed here if I were to bother coming back. Can’t just survive on hotel name alone I would say
Waiting staff for our afternoon tea were excellent especially the young man who greeted us and saw to our needs.
First class experience. Highly recommended.
Good afternoon at Chilston having afternoon tea with champagne with a 2 for 1 special. Some minor feedback My wife had to ask for sugar and we felt that the scones had a harder crust all round compared to previous visits. The types cakes have changed compared to other occasions in the past but overall a delightful experience.
Great afternoon tea at a lovely venue with friendly staff :)
