Best chicken (maybe food) I have ever had the pleasure of wrapping my lips around!!
Favourite restaurant in London
This was my first visit to Chick N Sours since the recent refurb and I have to say, I was really surprised that more space hasn't been created. Sadly, it still feels pretty cramped. Getting to our table involved squeezing past a couple who were dining at the bar and who didn't seem overly pleased about it, making it known with sighs and groans. Staff were quickly responsive with drinks order, swiftly followed by food. The person taking our order made a number of helpful suggestions about combinations so that we didn't order too much, though it was disappointing that the new chicken toast was unavailable as we'd been looking forward to trying this. The food arrived in good time and it was a delight to be reacquainted with the Szechuan aubergine. We had two portions between three of us and could have easily eaten more. My friend declared it the best thing on the menu and I'm tempted to agree. Another old favourite is the tenders, we shared four each and they never disappoint. Yet to try any of the sandwiches. We did have to wait a while to get the bill and then wait again to make payment but in fairness, it was starting to get pretty busy. One of the staff also helped fulfil a takeaway order for my housemate and turned this around super quickly and was really helpful, thank you! Before we left, my friend also commented that he was glad to be finally getting out of the noise. He wasn't helped by the fact that he was sitting directly under a speaker but the music was particularly loud during our visit. We're no 'stiffs' but it did make conversation hard at times, which is not what you want when out for food with friends. In summary, the star of the show at Chick N Sours (Haggerston) is the food (and the staff, on this occasion), however the cramped venue and the boisterous atmosphere really takes some shine off the perfect poultry!
Thank you. Excellent food, excellent service. Keep doing what you're doing x
I was sad to see the menu had changed from my previous visit. what I loved about the previous menu was the guest fry (laksa curry for my past visit) and it was one of the few fried chicken places that still served proper fried chicken on the bone (drums and thighs); everywhere else seems to focus on wings. I also remember their chicken burger being enormous and quite a spectacle. Sadly the new menu seems to have shrunk in portion sizing and feels too similar to other offerings at other chicken places, eg wings and normal-sized burgers. It feels chick’n’sours has lost what made it unique in the first place. Additionally, the spice used on the ssam half fry was the same spicy spice that is used at chick’n on Baker Street (I think). The spicy spice is far too sweet and it makes the dish taste exactly the same as the wings; this nothing is special about this dish. Overall, the menu change has made a unique restaurant become generic and the same as any other fried chicken shop. I would’ve preferred if this branch remained true to it’s origins, and the generic wings and burgers were offered at the takeaway in Marylebone or as part of a larger menu at Covent Garden. Disappointed and not sure I’d return anytime soon with the current menu.
Have been here a few times before however new menu and standard of food didn’t seem to be as enjoyable as I have had in the past. We also had to return some of the wings because they were cooked. Real shame because I have thoroughly enjoyed the food in the past.
service was a bit slow and it was not busy but staff very nice and apologetic. Drinks did not come we had to chase came very quickly and we got a free round of drinks too!
Honestly my favourite casual dining restaurant in London and I love the new additions to the menu. Service is casual but friendly and attentive and prices are excellent for the quality of food. Soundtrack was right on point for Friday night too, love this place!
I could come here and just order sides, they’re spectacular. I honesty feel the chicken is wasted as a burger, it’s so, so good. If you added regular fried chicken to the menu alongside the wings and tenders, that would be heaven.
Thank you to the staff who not only were super laid back, efficient and helpful with us, but we also noticed them managing to deal with a really tricky customer next to us. The cocktails and chicken were so good!
We had a great meal at Chick n Sours last night. The starters and wings are the highlight so order lots of these to share! (Especially the aubergine) We loved the burgers but the tenders are too plain. Friendly staff, quick service!
I love chick n sours and was super happy that the Haggerston branch reopened after the refurb. I was dissapointed by the lack of service. The restaurant wasn't super busy and yet the service wasn't the best. It took us 20 mins to have our food order taken, no one asked if we would like to order more drinks at any point and we had to flag down the witer again to pay the bill. Also, we noticed that the portion size of the aubergine and cucumber had been downsized. Definitely think we needed more aubergine though as it is so delicious! The food was still great espeially the new 1/2 fry and the brunch burger. :) Just more aubergine in a portion and better service and everything would be perfect!! Glad you guys are back!
Love this place. It’s always busy and full of people loving the food
Brilliant food, cornbread, aubergine and chicken toast are must try, delicious drinks and the service was grand.
updated menu is great. shame that new downstairs area is not open yet
Great opening night, the food, service and atmosphere never fail!
As a long time fan of this restaurant, the new menu shamelessly abandons Chick N Sours' chicken shop roots, forcing customers into ordering more sides. The chicken options feel much more limited by cutting the "fry" options, and the Ssam half fry seems like less chicken for more money ratio. The removal of the tamarind express also personally saddens me, as it was wonderfully tasty. More guest options and the return of a house fry are essential additions to the current menu. Whilst the chicken is still wonderfully tasty, in the current format I will not be returning to Chick N sours in its current format.
Miss the old menu
Amazing new menu, amazing staff. Carl is the man.
I almost cried a tear when I found out they were out of Chicken Toast, Mexinese Nachos and the Seoul Destroyer. I can’t be mad at these guys though (we were late in fairness), they are the best. No other fried chicken can match them (and I’ve tried at all). Brilliant place, new fit-out looks great and I’m excited to try out the bar!
Big fan of chick n sours!! Always great, however on this occasion the beer was warm and cocktails didn’t really hit the spot. But everything else is amazing!
Really good atmosphere, the small plates are great, especially the aubergine! Chicken is lovely with great choice of sauces! Chick N Sours own beer is amazing, very tasty and the cocktails are great, no half measures here!! Will definitely be back with a group of friends to try more of what they have!!
The half fry was really tasty but the chicken was overcooked/slightly dry. Cooking times could be adjusted to perfect the dish.
Fantastic experience. Friendly staff, phenomenal food
