About Chance & Counters
Chance & Counters is Bristol’s first dedicated board gaming café, tucked at the bottom of Christmas Steps.
It’s a purpose-built space that board gamers of all ages and abilities can enjoy, from casual players to seasoned strategists.
Great guide explaining the knights game for the millionth time!
Good selection of food and drink. Great service. Friendly & welcoming
Great games, great food and drink, great place and atmosphere. Would highly recommend!
We had a great time, were made to feel welcome, the coffee was delicious, the service great and we felt welcome with our 9 and 12 year old. The only downside is that the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable for four hours of sitting playing games. Maybe seat cushions to help? Other than that we had a great time and would recommend coming here to other people, and will certainly be returning (but with our own cushions just in case! ;-)
We had a great time. The members of the staff recommended us some really fun games and explained them to us very clearly. An ideal place to spend Sundays with friends.
Great service and drink quality. Drinks were on the pricey side, though. I'd go again when I'm not as thirsty.
Great time! Thank you to everyone involved!
Fantastic experience. Third visit and still recommending to everyone!!
Great fun. Staff are impressively knowledgeable and very enthusiastic, which is great!
Friendly patient staff. Good vibes
The staff were lovely and really flexible at letting us put and extra chair at our table when more people than expected turned up!
This is such an amazing concept and I thoroughly enjoyed being there, the only reason it gets four stars for value for money is as a student I found it to be slightly on the pricey side.
It’s honestly so much fun, cocktails and wacky board games you’d Never play anywhere else! I love coming here
Really helpful staff helping us figure out how to play mansion of madness. aloud us to use a bigger table then we were allocated
A really lovely games cafe. Great atmosphere. Would definately go again!
Lovely evening but table charge and food came to nearly £30 so it’s quite expensive
We all loved our visit and are definitely planning on going again soon! We spent hours and hours there. The only downside was that we were unlucky to be sat by a very loud and roudy table, but nothing to do with the place itself!
The food and drink were really nice and good quality, drinks were delivered quicky after being ordered but the food was extremely slow coming out. In our 4 hour window of playing games it took about 2 hours for the food to come.. I wouldn't mind if it was a meal but it was just a toasty. I think management should upgrade the kitchen or at the very least give a time estimate for people. The atmosphere when semi-busy is nice with enough background noise to fill the quiet moments in-between conversations but not enough so your straining your ears. Saturday when I went was busy which is the complete opposite. Children screaming, 'lads' jeering and the like, you'll be lucky to hear the person right next to you let alone the poor soul opposite you trying to tell you about the complicated rules of the game your about to play. AVOID FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY LIKE THE PLAGUE. My final gripe is that the staff seem to treat you like a squatter the moment your table time has finished, regardless if you have half a pint or more left in your drink. Somewhere to finish off after being booted off your table? Better luck at the pub next door. There's not even seating outside anymore to finish off your drink. I would hope in the future the staff would give a bit more of a time window at the end for people to finish drinks.
Dog friendly which was great, brilliant selection of games and tasty nibbles. Definitely would come again!
Great atmosphere, beer and games!!!!
Had a great time- the staff were really helpful and knowledgable. Good snacks and and a very friendly vibe
This was my first visit and both my children and I loved it. The atmosphere was relaxed, fun, and easy-going. The team were all so nice and helpful with games recommendations and helping find games. We'll definitely be returning again soon.
Well worth a visit -nice way to spend an afternoon with a small group
Love it but there could be more people to help advise with games
