About Cathay Rendezvous
Established in 1986 by Wong's family, Cathay Rendezvous is the longest established Chinese Restaurant in Bristol. A Bristol institution which has been copied and imitated by others but there is only one Cathay Rendezvous.
Within the elegant façade, the restaurant offers spacious and flexible air-conditioned rooms on two levels. Licensed for 150 people, we can cater for parties and events of all sizes.
Such a terrific place for veggies. I think my soul actually tried to leave my body and ascend to the heavens when I tried their mock duck pancakes with divine plum sauce. When they say 'full portion' they mean it - it was a very generous helping! So delicious. Their vegetable gyoza was very tasty, probably the best I've ever had. Only downside is I wanted more. Staff are smart, polite and provide prompt service despite how busy it was on a Saturday night. Definitely a firm favourite that I will return to.
I worked in this building when it was The Careers Office in the early 1970s and really enjoyed coming back and seeing what it is like now before we went to the theatre. Lovely to see this beautiful old building being looked after so well- and serving lovely food too. Thank you
Shame we had to keep calling the waiter over to be served but other than that excellent food and lots of it!
Great quality and amazing flavours. Attentive and thoughtful staff. A fabulous experience all round!
Excellent team of staff serving us. Food excellent and well presented. We came at a quite time intentionally but restaurant gradually become busier. Not hurried and plenty of time between each course. Would highly recommend Cathay Rendezvous
Generous portions, lovely staff
Great food and excellent service as always.
I booked the Cathay Rendevous weeks in advance for my 40th wedding a anniversary. We were a party of 7 adults and one child. We were staying in Bristol for 2 nights travelling up from Cornwall. After we were shown to our table we were handed menus, no interaction was offered by the waiter or any enquiries a stop if required a high chair for our grandchild. After waiting 40 minutes for someone to come and ask we if would like a drink or to take our order one of our party went to ask if someone would come to attend us. Another large party who arrived after us were already being served their food and we had not even had our order taken it was as iff we had been forgotten altogether. When we finally got our starters they all came out separately some of us finished eating before others arrived. My husband has his starter forgotten altogether and had to eat it after we had all finished. Again this was after we advised staff that a starter was missing. We had a lengthy conversation with the waitress who took our order about how much rice to order for 7 people but the rice was not brought to us and the second waitress advised us it was not on the order nor the sweet and sour sauce we had ordered. One of our party heard arguing from the kitchen when he went to chase the missing starter. No body attended us during our meal to ask for more drinks or if everything was ok must the normal sort of thing you would expect. Most of the staff seemed very sullen and there was no interaction with us. We had to beckon staff over if e required another drink. I had been really looking forward to this meal as the reviews were so good on trip advisor but was bitterly disappointed. It spoiled what should have been a special occasion. To have a Service charge added automatically just added insult to injury. This is the worse dining experience I have ever had.
Brilliant Meal. Would recommed to anyone looking for a nice chinese resturant
Noodles served a little later than the main meals
First time I have been here when the buffet is being served. Rather than self service you order your starters, mains etc which means you can take your time & minimise wastage. Great food & service as usual.
Service was a little slow but food was very good
Relaxed and comfortable environment.
We loved the Sunday buffet. Great service, generous portions, fabulous variety of food to choose from.
Great place, can't believe I haven't been before.
We booked our table well in advance, however when we arrived our table was taken, so we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Once seated however, both the food and the friendly, attentive service was excellent and gave us a very special evening. Also the musician playing live strings music was really good!
Quite simply the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to and the service and friendliness of the the staff is amazing.
Delicious pre-theatre dinner. Portion was generous and Dim Sum were yummy
Nice place and very good food
Lovely, friendly service. Gorgeous food, hot, fresh and brought out at a good pace. Would definitely return.
A nice restaurant with a good selection of drinks and food. Dishes came hot with generous portions. We ordered half aromatic duck as a starter for three followed by three main dishes, two rices and a Singapore noodles. We had more than enough but much better than being short changed. Service was fairly friendly and lady was playing a Guzheng (I think!) at the entrance which made things feel more authentic. Just a shame a few things made it less special Eg no candles and plastic table covers. Overall, I'd come back.
Excellent service and good value for money food
We thoroughly enjoy visiting. Parking is the greatest problem but we usually find somewhere near Queen Square. Cathay Rendezvous is one of our favourite Chinese restaurants.
Very standard Chinese fare which can be found in most Chinese restaurants around the country. Probably not for the local Chinese community, but nevertheless service was good, atmosphere very pleasant so fine for a run of the road meal with family or friends at a decent price.
Drinks Service quite slow, but food arrived quickly and efficiently. Universally acclaimed by all five of our party as the best chinese food we have ever had. Please open a restaurant in Bournemouth!
