About Castle Kitchen and Bar
Castle, Kitchen and Bar offers a casual style of dining with an extensive all day menu, which is also served outside on our terrace overlooking the golf course during the warmer months.
Love it here! Food and service is top class!!
Staff very friendly and helpful. Great service!
Delicious meal and very friendly service
Louise and Christine where excellent .very attentive.
Very surprised and disappointed at whole experience. Upon arrival, even before sitting we were offered the question, "would you like sparkling or still water?", we replied "still water please" When ordereing the steak sandwich I was asked if I wanted it rare or well done, I replied "could I have it medium please?" I was told no it had to be either or, obviously by the shock on my face I was then told "ok I'll say medium." My husband then ordered a steak sandwich rare. Both meals came out and my husband's steak was well done as was mine. It appeared to us that these are cooked earlier in the day as the mustard mayo on both steak sandwiches was dried up, this was obviously why you can't make a request for medium! It then took 10 minutes for our plates to be cleared upon finishing our main meal. From the dessert menu I asked if I could have the banoffee pie without chantilly cream and vanilla ice cream instead. Again this came out with the chantilly cream on top, again I assume prepared beforehand as request for no chantilly cream was ignored. Be prepared the still water comes at a cost off £3.50 which is not highlighted when being ordered. We would eat regularly at Sleepy Hollow in Newtownabbey where a free jug of ice water is immediately place on table without request. The food is delicious, cooked fresh and too your liking and service is superb. 2 course lunch is £16.50 at Sleepy Hollow, by the time you add sides to your main it costs £19.50 in Castle Kitchen. Castle Kitchen is not a patch on Sleepy Hollow!
Menu was very limited, not much choice. 28 for a steak with no side is expensive based on other restaurants in the area. The table service was a little speratic with us having to ask a few times for glasses, cutelry etc. The surroundings are beautiful, really well decorated. Disappointed at the hygiene in the toilets as there was roll all over the floor and the toilets hadn’t been cleaned (Sunday).
Feature lighting was very bright. Dominant green light made it difficult to see the colour of the food and actually gave one of our party a migraine headache. Otherwise food and service were excellent. Definitely book again.
Why do you price sauces individually - it just doesn't read well on a menu - why not just include it in the price of a steak? Pricing that item drew negative comments from everyone in our party. Service excellent.
Thank you for a lovely meal on our wedding anniversary good food and service from all the staff, we loved it such a difference.
Second time dining here since it was taken over by Galgorm Manor - both times have been excellent. We love the bustling atmosphere, the gorgeous decor and the food is amazing. The staff are attentive, they take time to explain the menu and they generally add to a great dining experience.
Another gem from galgorm. Fab decor, imaginative food. Staff were friendly and efficient. All in all a lovely dining experience
Food was tasty and liked the fact you could order small plates, but need specials on the board, and wine deals/ offers by the bottle, would improve choices and value for your money.
Gorgeous food and beautiful setting. Will def be back
Tried the Castle Kitchen on the for our wedding anniversary having got married at the Galgorm Hotel 15 years ago to the day. Alots happened since then including 3 kids of which 2 of them joined us for our meal. Lol! No candle lit dinner for 2! We all had a wonderful time with the food/drink and staff service being excellent. Thanks and look forward to coming again.
Bit disappointed with the ambiance - restaurant is beautiful decorated and lovely on arrival - it was over staffed but staff wasn’t attentive-stood in huddles talking and ignoring what customers were there - the chef was picking and eating of the dishes that he was serving for customers which put me off - the food was nice nothing spectacular. We liked the idea of going out of the hotel but we had to wait 45mins to be collected.
Very well decorated Resturant and bar, probably the best in Ballymena area. Atmosphere was very good and couldn’t fault the service. The let down was the food for me, the theme is meat which is great but I think it needs to be prepared and cooked a lot better, my wife got the rib eye steak and asked for it medium, when served it was well done! We returned it and it’s replacement came 5mins later, this time medium to well done, we didn’t return it as i was nearly finished. I got the ribs which were very fatty and only ate half. Portion sizes were generous but the quality want there for us.
Food was amazing!! Service was poor, starters came before our drinks and after we finished our mains we waited 45 minutes and then asked for a sweet menu for the waitress to say she would send over some one to clean the table , it took another 15 for a waiter to clean so I just asked for the bill as I didn’t want to wait for desert , it was busy but staff are definitely not on their game yet, this was our second visit and the 1st was similar, but food still good and I will go back
Blown away by the refurb. I could not fault last night at all, the atmosphere and the food were amazing. Our wee waitress was so friendly, the girl serving the food maybe just wasn't as friendly and quite rough setting the food down but it was busy. Cosy and I really lovely experience. Well done to those who revamped that place. It's definitely the in place to be. So good to see it finally alive and kicking. Love the venue.
The only thing I have to say is the pitta bread we had was cooked to long as it was hard. Then the table that we sat at was unbalanced and table wasn't cleaned right.
I have already addressed some of my concerns to the duty manager but since this email has generated I felt it only fair to log my visit. We were a table of 2 adults and one child at 18:30.This was our first visit to The Castle having been to Fratellis, Gillies and The River Room on numerous occasions. We were very impressed with the ambience of the place. We know the high standards set and expected much of the same. Initially the selection of local craft beer was of considerable disappointment with only one “craft” beer on tap in Whitewater with no bottle offering. We ordered wine which was delivered to the table in a cooler and left there without being opened or poured. Our starters (hot wings and croquettes) were tepid but not hot. No one came near us during this time to check everything was as expected. In between starter and main I decided to have that Whitewater beer and looked around for a server to draw their attention to this. No one was attentive and after some time my wife went to the bar herself to order this and another drink for my daughter. My daughters meal came out incomplete and we had to ask for the rest of it. The main course was a beautiful burger which redeemed the night in part but it was swiftly pointed out to me that it was only a burger and it should be easy to get it right. I should also mention that we ordered and were charged for an extra side which failed to arrive. I know the Castle is newly opened and there will be teething problems but the service on this occasion was sub standard from what I’d expect and have previously received in other parts of the Galgorm Resort and Spa brand. Based on this I’d find it difficult to return and spend the money I did to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Casual dining should not mean a casual attitude. I would happily discuss the matter further.
Superb food and great service.
Friendly with genuine warmth, perfect decor and brilliant food. Yet another jewel in the Galgorm Resort crown.
Delicioua meal in lovely surroundings
Booked table on line for a very special family occasion. Picked this restaurant because of on line specific vegan menu, also specified “vegan choices please” on booking form. On the day decided to check out the vegan menu and it had disappeared from web site. Phoned and was assured that the chef would accommodate vegan meals. The non vegan menu was good and family members enjoyed their meal. How ever the main course vegan choice on offer was served in a starter dish and was very small and poor. This made the rest of the party uncomfortable.A very special family reunion was marred by a feeling of embarrassment for the booker on behalf of the vegan member. Did not want to upset the evening any more by making a fuss. I know the staff did their best and were also very busy. Would like to return but as a member of my family is vegan it would not be fair to them. Visited another near by hotel the same weekend and a beautiful vegan meal was presented! Tullyglass Hotel)
