About Cargo at Waitiri
Home to the best brewed beers in Queenstown, with an inspired chef behind their ever-changing menu, this kitchen and bar offers a unique tasting experience.
Founded in 2015 by Malcolm and Meron Blakey, Cargo Brewery & Kitchen serve up a selection of tasty craft beers, from aromatic gold lager, citrus-laden pale ale and creamy porter, to their hand-crafted IPA and smooth pilsner.
Whilst Malcolm crafted his perfect pint, Meron (a chef by trade) took on the challenge of creating a fresh and innovative menu. With the wealth of Otago’s produce at her fingertips, Meron showcases the best local ingredients from artisan farmers and growers. Her menu changes with the seasons, offering dishes packed with flavour and of uncompromising quality.
Located within the stunning Waitiri Creek vineyard, inside a historic church built in the gold mining era, Cargo is proud to also serve the neighbouring Waitiri Creek wines. Enjoy a unique tasting experience at Cargo Brewery & Kitchen with their micro-brewery opening Summer 2018.
Fabulous place for energetic tamariki and parents who want to relax with a good beer 🤙🏼
Fantastic tasting/dining experience. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was thoroughly enjoyable. Totally recommend.
Great night thank you!
I suggest you put up a sign to say the church is the brewery. We weren't sure whether that was the brewery or whether it was further down the driveway
Nailed it - AGAIN!! Can not stop talking about how on point Cargo at Gantleys has been! Well done team - you should all be pretty god dam proud of what you have created.
We had a great evening and very much enjoyed the tastings, very informative and can't wait for more.....
We absolutely love coming to Cargo. We loved you out at Gibbston and now we get to love you (a lot more frequently) at Gantleys. The team of staff are amazing! Especially Hayley... the face of Gantleys. We really enjoyed doing the pub quiz in lockdown and since you’ve reopened we’ve loved coming to the quiz at Gantleys. It really feels like a warming, country pub in winter and in summer there’s a really great outdoor garden vibe too. I’ve never had a ‘local’ before in my life and I’m now being spoilt with my new local, Cargo! The beer is amazing and we definitely take advantage of the take away beer offers too!
We had a lovely evening thank you, and it has to be said that you make great hosts!
Awesome night last night to try some new beers and food. Great stuff. The key over winter will be attracting the post ski crowd who will be driving past from Coronet to head back into town. You need to give them a reason to stop in which could be - happy hour drinks, awesome lighting, DJs or bands. A few more fires/heat sources would be a good idea. Not sure if you can increase parking somehow so people know they can pull off and park? If you can create a unique atmosphere then people will stop for that (like they used to do for the Old AP Pub on the other side of the bridge) rather than keep driving back to town to drop off gear, have a beer at their accommodation and head to town. You have the visibility from the road which will help to draw them in. Otherwise things to keep the kids amused are always good to allow parents to catch up over drinks and snacks. And there is a good area out the back away from the road to set up some kids type activities. Keeping the food quite pub-like is a good idea. I think Canyons got a bit too fancy with their food options. The pool table is good but often table tennis is a bit more social and can involve more people. Given the recent success of The Last Dance you could throw up a basketball backboard and get into free throw competitions? Giant Jenga always goes down a treat with kids and adults. Otherwise if you can think of a few cool things that people do at outdoor weddings to amuse the guests (besides the free drinks!!) then that could be a good special thing to do on a Sunday for example??
Great place thank you
Your location is terrific. Great food and drink. Wonderful staff. Will recommend you and be back. Thank you!
Awesome place with lovely atmosphere and great for kids. Perfect
Great location. For was fantastic and reasonable price. Beers and wine platters great price and quality
We love it here and come back every time we’re in Queenstown. This was the first time we ate here - it was over the busy New Years period and we’d made a booking several weeks in advance. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for our platters (which we were advised about upon ordering) but this seems a huge amount of time to wait for antipasto fare. The gorgeous resident Labrador was loved by us all except for our young daughter who has a dog phobia - so perhaps something to keep in mind - not all patrons will be comfortable with a dog roaming the tables, even though she was clearly docile and good natured. Am sure we’ll be back though.
Great for a Sunday afternoon with friends to enjoy some wine/beer and cheese platter
Beautiful scenery, great atmosphere, delicious food, excellent service. Highly recommended.
Set up and games are awesome
Really nice dinner! The fondue was full on and was so much food! Great for large groups! Service was perfect and really freindly. Take a jersey under your coat... was a bit cooler than a busy kitchen in cbd of Qtwn.
Absolutely delicious food and beer! Perfect setting! Gorgeous place!
We LOVED LOVED LOVED our visit to Cargo Brewery today. Weather was in our favour so the kids ran and ran and ran in the amazing outdoors. and played with the many games and toys available. Even if it had rained, they have numerous games inside too. Food was perfect as was the service. Even the new guy after his 3rd day was awesome! Will definitely be back!
Awesome place! Can’t believe I’ve not been before. Great for kids!
Great food, awesome service and overall just a great vibe to go for lunch! Thanks again team
As always. It was amazing. Great choice for a sunny day and being served by smiling people is all we need to have a great day!
