Caractère is a chic, contemporary and independent restaurant situated in Notting Hill and opened by husband and wife team Diego Ferrari and Emily Roux.
In French, Caractère literally means character or personality, something that both Emily and Diego love to express through their cooking and hospitality. The menu represents different personality traits so you can choose to be ‘Curious’ and ‘Greedy’ a la carte, or ‘Be Adventurous’ with the full tasting menu.
Our dinner was outstanding.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The service was attentive without being intrusive and we loved the atmosphere. The quality of food was very, very good; our one complaint is the food could have been hotter but otherwise, it was almost perfect. A place to hang coats would be helpful. We will be returning. Well done!
Great team, service and food. The champagne choice could be wider with an improved entry price bottle... the still wine list has this option.
Lovely food in a great setting with top service.
There was clearly a problem in the kitchen as we had to wait 90 minutes between starters and main course, and the waiter offered my husband a drink as an apology, but ignored my daughter and I - and we were also waiting!! Very odd. Also, the waiter asked us were we visiting the restaurant for a special occasion?? My husband was trained by the Roux brothers at the Waterside. We eat in the best restaurants in the world. I don’t appreciate being patronised by whatever well meaning small talk between waiter and clientele. Needs work.
We spent a great time, creative food, very good wine and caring service. We will be back!
The Restaurant has a very nice atmosphere, service is very good, food is excellent and it was just a very good Saturday Lunch for me, amazing crockery and the food tasty and so refined. thank you very much for that experience!
We really loved the restaurant in every way, however we would suggest that some of the lighting was too bright in areas of the room,it also lacks a bar waiting area,we are looking forward to returning ...
We had an excellent lunch. Loved all the extra little touches. Will definitely be returning.
excellent service, fantastic venison ravioi
Terrific food. Excellent service. Will return. . This said a couple of small things: did not find the cutlery user friendly and it was rather off-putting not having anywhere to hang-up our coats/have them taken from us to a cloakroom. Pity the restaurant is in the wilds of West London in the shadow of Westway rather than in Central or SW London!
Absolutely outstanding cuisine, excellent and fairly priced wine list and friendly/well informed service. Hard to fault on any level. The dining room design makes the best of a difficult space and is comfortable and welcoming.
An exceptional and flawless dinner with friends
It would be nice if there were some lighter starters on the menu
Great meal - all in all lovely place.
Food was outstanding. The over head lighting that did not dim was rather lacking in night time atmosphere but an easy fix I am sure. I would recommend the front of house door service to be more welcoming . We were the first to arrive for the evening and with 4 people hanging at the entrance computer it should not take serval goes at finding our reservation..it was our 25th wedding anniversary I have been out to dinner in a few places in life and to be made to hover over the computer was not very welcome start especially as the place was empty and we had dressed up and arrived on time. A new neighbourhood restaurant very welcome in a high residence with so few restaurants.
Amazing food, loved it!
We enjoyed everything from the canapé to the Grappa.
Amazing, everything was great what an experience
When I heard that the daughter of Michael Roux and his chef from Le Gavroche had opened a restaurant I couldn’t wait to go. My husband and I went for lunch on Saturday. We were the first ones there which was a surprise and as a result it lacked atmosphere. Three other tables came in so that helped but it soon paled into insignificance once the food arrived. A great amuse voucher to start. The scallops were cooked to perfection as was the duck and lamb that we had. In fact, the food was absolutely stunning and fine dining at its best. It was as good as any Michelin restaurant we’ve been in which I guess is no surprise given Diego’s background. I really hope the restaurant is a huge success - it certainly derserves to be. The downside for us was it’s location as we had travelled from Kent so it was a bit of trek across London but if we were nearer, we would go back in a flash.
