About Cannonball Restaurant & Bar
Cannonball House is one of the city’s oldest and most important buildings with stunning views to Edinburgh Castle. Our cosy bar lists over 120 Scotch whiskies and is open for lunch, cocktails and pre dinner drinks. From the bar we will escort you up the atmospheric old school staircase to our award winning Scottish Restaurant, serving delicious, seasonal quality dishes in a truly unique location.
Fresh East Coast lobster, oysters, Bellhaven Smoked salmon, seasonal Scottish game and the best Scotch Beef from Inverurie are always on the menu. And, of course our haggis cannonballs are not to be missed!
Serving old fashioned fish and chips all day.
Delicious afternoon tea and excellent service thank you.
Gorgeous food and lovely friendly staff and the manager so friendly and welcoming highly recommend this place if visiting Edinburgh lovely building with lots of history too
Good location, friendly staff, food and choice of wine.
Great atmosphere, amazing food, wonderful service!
Fantastic food and superb hosting in a wonderful setting. Our waitress Joanna did a fine job, explaining every dish and checking with the chef ingredients to accommodate my wheat intolerant wife.Victor Contini took time to introduce himself to us during our meal and again after when he gave us a fascinating history lesson of the building through the centuries. He made us feel so welcome and we got the impression he was genuinely happy to see us dine in his establishment. We will certainly be back to the Cannonball Restaurant next time we are in Edinburgh!
It was a Thursday night in March and the only patrons were ourselves (with our guide dog in training) and a table of boisterous businessmen (it sounded like), but they were at the other end of the restaurant so did not disturb us. The area around the restaurant is atmospheric but pretty quiet at night and the room is several flights up and on the top floor. The toilets are therefore two floors below if you need them. The room was somewhat dark, which was OK as it meant that the lights from the nearby Camera Obscura were that much more dramatic. Service was friendly and efficient. They offered to bring a bowl of water for our guide dog! For starters, we had scallops and haggis and for our main courses we had pork belly and hake. Plus two glasses of wine. All very good. The total bill was £50.05, which benefitted from a promotional 50% off. Left to ourselves we would have added 10% to the undiscounted bill, but the management had already added 10% to the net figure and therefore a lower figure. I do object to gratuities being added without my involvement and so, in this case, didn't bother to re-calculate and add the difference.
Absolutely amazing evening had by all of us. Our server Natalie was perfect and was especially kind to our young children. The food was exceptional, showcasing local produce and flavours. The atmosphere, with the view of the castle was really lovely, perfect for my Mum's 65th birthday. Thank you all. We'll definitely be back to work our way through the menu!
Booked afternoon tea for 2 and it's one of the best we have had. Quality and volume of the food was excellent and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Will defo be back x
Lovely afternoon tea! A delightful selection and amazing tastes! Only wish we lived closer so we could visit more often.
The food was delicious, the servers were attentive, and the place was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night.
Enjoyed the experience thoroughly
Our dinner at Cannonball was an absolute delight. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a pre dinner drink in the bar before being shown to our table by our charming hostess. The food was amazing ...the chefs discreetly working in the background .... And served by our lovely waitress who helped us navigate the menu. We highly recommend And would definitely return when in Edinburgh.
Excellent service of the young lad with the short hair ( prob a student ) really caring and on top of everything, hé really cared Food was delicious !
This has now become my restaurant of choice on Murrayfield match days. I love the food, atmosphere and menu which makes my trip worthwhile.

Our favourite restaurant, always perfect
Service was great but the food didn’t quite live up to the menu. Some of the food was half cooked and tasteless. Wouldn’t go back but wanted to try the place
Excellent meal and service
Great as always
First visit here. The meal was above average, but short on being "Top Notch" The scallops starter was a bit on the skinny side 2 scallops, not quite worth the price. The food was good but not exceptional. The dessert selection was disappointing. The setting and atmosphere was nice. I have a large group booked in here in a months time and hope its a bit better. Nothing major wrong but expected slightly better.
Dear Mr Steel, Thank you for your feedback , we have taken this on board. We have also emailed you direct . Best wishes Cannonball Team
