About Cannonball Restaurant & Bar
Cannonball House is one of the city’s oldest and most important buildings with stunning views to Edinburgh Castle. Our cosy bar lists over 120 Scotch whiskies and is open for lunch, cocktails and pre dinner drinks. From the bar we will escort you up the atmospheric old school staircase to our award winning Scottish Restaurant, serving delicious, seasonal quality dishes in a truly unique location.
Fresh East Coast lobster, oysters, Bellhaven Smoked salmon, seasonal Scottish game and the best Scotch Beef from Inverurie are always on the menu. And, of course our haggis cannonballs are not to be missed!
Serving old fashioned fish and chips all day.
For afternoon tea I think there could be slightly more value for money if charging £25 per head. I would prefer two more sandwiches rather than two scones. The scones would also be nice warm as they were quite dry and hard. The kids afternoon tea went to waste unfortunately as they didn’t like the mustard on the ham sandwich or the egg. Kids don’t tend to eat smoked salmon either. Also feel that the only difference between an adult and kids afternoon tea was one smoked salmon bite so reinforces my point of charging £25 per adult when you can charge 12.50 per child. The alcohol in the restaurant is outrageously overpriced. However, the atmosphere and service were lovely and the staff were excellent. I don’t think I would recommend the afternoon tea but could perhaps return to try other menus.
Booked for 3pm but not served till nearer 3.30pm. Seemed a bit disorganised for afternoon tea in the restaurant. Food was great though.
Unfortunately our second experience of your restaurant was as memorable as our first but for completely different reasons. You had no lobster to offer due to a supply chain problem and my dish I chose because of the lack of lobster ‘posh fish and chips’ did not live up to the excellent review it was afforded in the herald newspaper. All in all very disappointing as our initial visit a couple of months ago was first class. I can only hope that our next visit lives up to the memories of our first.
We had a table overlooking the Castle and although we are not tourists it was just fab. We chose to have a late lunch as we were going to the theatre later and so were not in a rush... good job as our food took ages to come. Having said that it was hot, fresh and delicious. Our server, who was male and not from Scotland, was very attentive and nice. We will be back - this is a lovely restaurant in a fantastic, unique setting.
Excellent as always
Really nice early dinner at Cannonball. The restaurant has a relaxed and contemporary feel with very welcoming staff. Good was delicious and we would definitely come again.
We were lucky enough to get the best seat in the house with a magnificent view of the castle. Our food was tasty and service was good. We were left to sit and enjoy our wine and the view after the meal and we’re not rushed at all. This is one of our favourite restaurants that we visit often, and have taken many visitors there.
Fantastic lunch, in fantastic setting next to castle. Staff very responsive and attentive to any requirements or needs. Food was delicious and well presented and need to get back to sample more. 5 out of 5.
The lunch menu on the itison deal was very good, great portion size and most importantly delicious. So fresh and well presented. Staff were friendly and attentive without being a bother. Will definitely be back
First class service, excellent food and an outstanding setting looking out on the castle. Hard to beat.
Lovely meal at a lovey venue
I went with a friend and had their newly launched Afternoon tea and they did not disappoint! The setting was stunning and we were seated in a bright sunny room with views of Edinburgh Castle. I love the fact that all ingredients are seasonal and that they use local suppliers. We will definitely be back!
A delightful afternoon tea in a lovely setting!
Great new menu could be better food
Beautiful location, beautiful venue and beautiful food.
Sorry our experience at the weekend was very poor, we were left in the bar for 20 mins before being taken to our table. The food was extremely average and service pretty slow. I notice the lady at the next table returned her food as it was bland! I asked for a glass of house white wine but was told this was only available by the bottle and not the glass - strange! The ambience was pretty flat not what I was expecting at all, certainly not value for money even with the itison voucher - sorry our first visit to a Contini's restaurant and we wont be back.
My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh Returning customer many times, lunch, evening dinning and Hogmany event - out standing. Atmosphere and staff just fantastic, so attentive. Margaret
Superb restaurant. Staff are excellent. Food deliciously served in beautiful historic building
We was fancy to try a scottish restaurant. Best choice. Great experience right next to the Castle. Lovely food and nice welcome from the waiters. Highly recommended
Excellent quality of food and lovely view of the castle- will definitely be back and will be recommending to friends
We had a wonderful meal for Mother's Day, the food was fantastic, the free glass of fizz was an unexpected treat and the service was second to none. We will definitely be returning!
Fantastic food friendly staff and views of the castle amazing
beautiful setting by the castle, we were able to take our time and the whole experience was amazing
Had lunch on a voucher deal with 3 friends. Service was good with staff friendly but unobtrusive. Great views to the esplanade if you were lucky to get a seat there. Food was very tasty. Nice choice too.
