About Cannonball Restaurant & Bar
Cannonball House is one of the city’s oldest and most important buildings with stunning views to Edinburgh Castle. Our cosy bar lists over 120 Scotch whiskies and is open for lunch, cocktails and pre dinner drinks. From the bar we will escort you up the atmospheric old school staircase to our award winning Scottish Restaurant, serving delicious, seasonal quality dishes in a truly unique location.
Fresh East Coast lobster, oysters, Bellhaven Smoked salmon, seasonal Scottish game and the best Scotch Beef from Inverurie are always on the menu. And, of course our haggis cannonballs are not to be missed!
Serving old fashioned fish and chips all day.
Very accommodating when train cancellation led to two of our party being delayed for meal. Lovely bar area.
Outstanding Dinner! I’ll shall return...
Arrived a little early, but they were happy to seat me and had a lovely view (ignoring the rain :) ) out over the Edinburgh Castle esplanade. Excellent service from Natali, friendly and came back to check how my food was and refill my water glass and so on. Food arrived fairly quickly and was all very tasty :) Would definitely come back again another time when I'm in Edinburgh.
Amazing customer service and delicious food
Enjoyed everything we had! Staff were great and didn’t rush us when we were chatting! Thanks
We went for our 1 year anniversary and the staff was so friendly welcoming and attentive. They surprised us with prosecco and cute anniversary desert - nice touch!
We've been to The Cannonball for th Festival dining package and thought we should check it out just on a normal evening. Very impressed with the table (the one in the corner overlooking the esplanade and castle!) and Kim our waitress was amazing, helping with choices and recommendations. Food was top notch and a nice varied menu to choose from. After 3 courses each, we retired downstairs to the bar for more drinks as we didn't want our evening to end. Will definitely be back and recommend to family and friends! 10/10
Delicious Scottish ingredients perfectly cooked with flair served in an atmospheric and relaxed environment with efficient friendly servic
Lovely restaurant in the heart of the city, great food made with local ingredients and absolutely amazing staff
Excellent food, excellent service and very reasonably priced too.
2 visits this week with 3 friends who did not know Cannonball House. I had confidently given the place a big build-up, based on a number of previous visits since my daughter had introduced me to your establishment as a birthday treat, and you did not disappoint....location, food, wine, décor, service all of a very high standard (with a special mention for Johanna, whom I had as waitress on both these visits, who was efficient, knowledgeable, helpful and with all that, friendly and charming.) I will certainly be back and would happily bring others with me. One small quibble: I was told the table would need to be vacated after 75 minutes, which seemed a bit restrictive. .As it turned out, we were not hassled at all and comfortably and happily exceeded the stated time. Why have the limit unless at a very pressurised period?
Terrific meal and superb ambience. Service both friendly and professional. As an added and unexpected bonus the IPA was the best pint I had in Edinburgh! Definitely one for your shortlist. We'll be back.
Excellent service and food. Issue paying the bill - it took approx 1/2 hour to sort out. The staff did not know how to process the ‘new menu’ discount through the till.
We were disappointed with our experience. My main course of pork belly was overcooked and as a result very dry and hard. I mentioned this but nothing came of it. The creme brulee was also poor, as the custard was runny, not set. Again, I mentioned this but there was no apology. I was expecting better based on the standard prices of this restaurant (I.e. £20 for the pork) We got the mains and starters half price as part of a new menu launch offer (we thought the dessert would be half price too, but it was not) so I did not really expect a further discount to be offered, but it would have been nice to be offered something in compensation. I felt the meal was expensive for what it was even with the discount (the portions were small) so I definitely would not pay full price here.
Maybe because the restaurant was quite quiet, it seemed to lack a bit of atmosphere, unlike the bar downstairs which was lovely. I have to say though that I do prefer a cosy environment over a clean minimalist look, so the sofly lit bar appealed more to me than the brighter dining room. Can't fault the food though and the staff were lovely. Would definitely go back.
We could not fault the meal, staff or setting. The food was Scottish with a twist and we had delicious seasonal produce. So glad we found it and should we make it back to Edinburgh we will be back
Excellent service from courteous staff. Food was delicious and a good selection of wines at reasonable prices. Right next to the Castle, brilliant location. Get yourself there for a special occasion or just spoil yourself. You won’t be disappointed
...the dinner was nice but the administration process for a pre paid booked dinner was mot what we as a tour operator and returning customer expect.
Beautiful with superb service
Wonderful, wonderful and wonderful. Great service and food just exquisite
Great service from friendly staff and a very lovely afternoon tea. Really couldn't ask for more.
Food delicious, service excellent. A little pricey for a relatively small portion of beef. Overall, a good experience.
Natali was our server and she was pleasant, helpful and courteous. We were in very good hands!
