About Cannonball Restaurant & Bar
Cannonball House is one of the city’s oldest and most important buildings with stunning views to Edinburgh Castle. Our cosy bar lists over 120 Scotch whiskies and is open for lunch, cocktails and pre dinner drinks. From the bar we will escort you up the atmospheric old school staircase to our award winning Scottish Restaurant, serving delicious, seasonal quality dishes in a truly unique location.
Fresh East Coast lobster, oysters, Bellhaven Smoked salmon, seasonal Scottish game and the best Scotch Beef from Inverurie are always on the menu. And, of course our haggis cannonballs are not to be missed!
Serving old fashioned fish and chips all day.
Great as always
First visit here. The meal was above average, but short on being "Top Notch" The scallops starter was a bit on the skinny side 2 scallops, not quite worth the price. The food was good but not exceptional. The dessert selection was disappointing. The setting and atmosphere was nice. I have a large group booked in here in a months time and hope its a bit better. Nothing major wrong but expected slightly better.
Dear Mr Steel, Thank you for your feedback , we have taken this on board. We have also emailed you direct . Best wishes Cannonball Team
Thank you for making my 60th birthday celebrations with family and friends on our weekend in Edingburgh such an enjoyable dining experience
Everything was great. We loved Table 102 and our server too. Food was fab and we will be back as will our visitors many times.
Very attentive staff, great food.
Please change my name to Hazel Jones (not sure where the Helen has come from. A truly fabulous New Years Eve dinner. We will definitely be back. Hazel
A really great meal and very good service.
Sraff was very nice and helpful. because I ordered vegan dish. starter, main, and dessert for vegan was EXCELLENT. I should visit again. Many thanks,
We made reservation at the restaurant for New Year’s Eve celebration and it was a disaster. We paid 130 per head for a meal that I can easily make at home - bread was cold, service was slow, waiters were pushing hard for alcoholic drinks. The main course was a total disappointment - steak was dry and the potato was one of the worst I’ve ever had in my life. The restaurant promotion was misleading, saying we could enjoy fireworks at their courtyard after dinner. However there was NO view whatsoever and we left feeling cheated. Will NEVER come back.
Great location for NYE celebration. Great staff.
The food was quality and presentation was excellent.. the welcome gin and tonic was a nice touch.
A decent enough meal, but perhaps a little over priced.
Perfect for our special occasion -wonderfully atmospheric setting and lovely food served with genuine charm.
Overall quite disappointed with our visit to Cannonball. We visited Edinburgh for the week and enjoyed everywhere we ate and had equally good expectations for this place too. Unfortunately from the moment we arrived they didn't have our table ready and when we eventually did get seated it took us quite some time to order drinks and subsequently food. The drinks were brilliant, as was the fish main course that my wife had and I must say the atmosphere was great. We skipped starters due to items not available from the menu. My main course was steak with broccoli and mash, all of which were lukewarm - nobody came around to see if the food was acceptable until it had almost all been ate. When we did mention this we then had what seemed to be a head waiter being really short with us, offering to rectify it by way of free dessert but failing to show us a dessert menu from which to choose. When we then asked for coffee the same waiter made a sarcastic remark about Italian coffee and I was left needing to explain the coffee I was looking to order three times. I can't see us returning here on our next visit to the city, it was a disappointing experience for what should be a higher quality level of service and delivery. We don't mind paying good prices for good food and great service, but we didn't experience that on this occasion with Cannonball.
Last minute booking on Christmas Eve for my husband and baby. Given castle view seat and staff bent over backwards to make us welcome and make sure we were comfortable with the baby. Our food and drink was delicious and usual Contini high standards. Minor thing is that I had hake as a main which was a little dry but none the less a wonderful Christmas Eve our first as a family and you made it extra special. Thank you
Friendly nice food and good atmosphere
Our server was fantastic, we’ve forgot her name but she was tall and brunette. She recommended amazing food and wine to pair
A truly lovely birthday meal. Great welcome for all of us (2 adults, 2 children) great food and wine. Particularly enjoyed the cannonballs !
Gorgeous place, fantastic food and service was great. Had a lovely lunch before visiting the castle
A great place to eat, especially for a special occasion. We were celebrating my partners 40th birthday. We were served by a lovely many named Mark, who was extremely at-tentative and took good care of us. I would highly recommend.
Delightful dining experience . Service and quality of food outstanding Bob
Excellent meal, very attentive staff in a wonderful location
The service did by Joanna was very good.
Great Christmas Meal we all really enjoyed it and would come back, Thank you.
From the moment we arrived we had fabulous service from our server David and all the staff and we really enjoyed every mouthful of the delicious food. It was my husband's birthday and they surprised us with a complimentary glass of bubbly and a plate of petit fours with a candle - such a lovely touch! Thank you and we will be back!
