About Cannonball Restaurant & Bar
Cannonball House is one of the city’s oldest and most important buildings with stunning views to Edinburgh Castle. Our cosy bar lists over 120 Scotch whiskies and is open for lunch, cocktails and pre dinner drinks. From the bar we will escort you up the atmospheric old school staircase to our award winning Scottish Restaurant, serving delicious, seasonal quality dishes in a truly unique location.
Fresh East Coast lobster, oysters, Bellhaven Smoked salmon, seasonal Scottish game and the best Scotch Beef from Inverurie are always on the menu. And, of course our haggis cannonballs are not to be missed!
Serving old fashioned fish and chips all day.
Your location is spot on and is a beautiful place. I came with a family group on Hogmanay just gone for the fish and fizz evening...top stuff . However none too impressed this time unfortunately as the food was mediocre and I was expecting something better. Friends up from London and your location and perfect staff ticked the box. Food not so.
First class food but sadly slightly shambolic organisation and inflexibility over mixing and matching between menus marred our experience. There wasn’t a “customer first” attitude.
Great food, great service, great location, what more can I say
Food and service was excellent but restaurant was very quiet. We did go on a cold, wet Wednesday night though. Will definitely return
Oysters were delicious. The half lobster was disappointing.
Espacio muy acogedor y trato muy agradable. Comida muy buena y buena relación calidad precio.
Lovely end to a top day
Waiting staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Overall, a great meal in a fantastic location. Would return.
Lovely restaurant in a perfect location serving excellent food
Lovely food and service good !!
Nice restaurant, very helpful staff, we had an 'Itison' deal, 2 of us didn't like the starters & asked if we could opt for dessert instead, the waitress asked her manager who agreed, I have to say the staff were very accommodating & understanding! On the whole the meal was very enjoyable.
All of the food was gorgeous - apart from the chips with the fish and chips. Some of the chips were very underdone, they weren't inedible but needed a bit longer. When paying £22 for fish and chips you expect it to be perfect. Other then that everything else was very nice and our waitress was very attentive and friendly.
Couldn’t ask for a better setting for dinner. A picturesque view of the castle in a building with such history. I was worried that being so close to a tourist attraction the good might be a bit style over substance but the food was delicious, beautifully presented and great value. Will definitely return.
Booked with you for our 29th wedding anniversary (as you appeared as one of Edinburgh's top ten restaurants in an on-line review); however we were extremely disappointed with both the service & the food. Probably more disappointed with our anglo-saxon reserve at not sharing our feelings on the night.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and environment in both the bar and restaurant. The quality of the food and service provided by Emma and Connor was excellent. However, since my last visit, some price seem to have increased by quite a bit. For example, the fish and chips had previously been priced at £14 but now, albeit with the addition of a langoustine, it is now £22, an increase of more than 50%. My pork belly was excellent but I felt it should've included more than just the sweet potato fondant and crackling. I felt the wine had increased a bit as well and it was difficult to get anything decent for under £30. We had the Montepulciano at £29 which was a bit disappointing considering the price tag. However, I still enjoyed my evening and will definitely be back.
Thanks for the lovely touches for my wife's birthday. Quality
Great setting for our Friday evening dinner! We were however disappointed overall with the food. The chicken liver parfait, although presented well, lacked flavour. The lobster thermidor macaroni cheese had far too much pasta drowning out the other flavours. My companion had the grilled fresh Scottish lobster which was tasty enough although it seemed odd to be accompanied by chips as standard. Not as memorable as we had hoped.
First rate restaurant with excellent food and staff. We will definitely book again on our next visit.
My customers and I thoroughly enjoyed dining at Cannonball yesterday. A great team, super food, lovely relaxed atmosphere and a world-class location. In the words of Arnie, 'I'll be back'.
The lobster Mac & cheese was great but far too much food for one person. The restaurant was crowded and staff had to squeeze past my husband's chair with plates of food. We liked the restaurant but we're celebrating an anniversary and it didn't quite hit the mark in terms of ambience and comfort. The food was great though.
Very good food and amazing setting. Connor was also very friendly and helpful.
Loved this restaurant food and staff were amazing. A must for a drink or dinner
