About The Verandah at Cable Bay
As one of Waiheke’s top vineyards, Cable Bay attracts visitors from across the globe. With one of the city's best views, the iconic lush lawn overlooks the Hauraki Gulf. Between wood-fired pizzas, seasonal plates, and cultivated cheeseboards, there’s plenty to satisfy the table. Sip on Cable Bay’s very own wine, and take a tour through the cellar door for a real garden-to-table experience.
Most enjoyable way to spend the day
Fantastic views, friendly staff. Only complaint was we were offered still or sparkling water and wasn't told that the sparkling water was at a $12 cost until the end. Would recommend to others.
Food was extremely unsatisfactory considering the price. Steak was over cooked and came with a few potatoes.
Stunning location, service and friendliness of staff - excellent and food and wine top notch.
Lovely time, thanks
Great service and beautiful views!
No se podía comer afuera y faltó visita a la bodega, degustación de vinos de la bodega
Fantastic thank you. Only reason I dropped the atmosphere by one star is we were outside (difficult to get true atmosphere outside!) but this was because we had a Labrador dog who was welcomed and made the whole visit extremely enjoyable. Value for money, food and drink were great but so was the bill - for a one off its excellent.
Service was not good. Had to wait 20 mins just to get water. Need more experienced wait staff.
We made a last minute change to the booking by increasing numbers and the staff were very accommodating even though the Verandah was busy. It's a great shame that the return of bean bags on the lawn hasn't yet eventuated - our of your control but it's just not the same place anymore. Additionally, it was far too hot within the Verandah enclosure and we were advised that the transparent blinds could not be pulled up at the front - this not only blurred the gorgeous views but made the place quite uncomfortable. We ventured up to Mud Brick after Cable Bay and unfortunately for Cable Bay, Mud Brick have now maximised their outdoor space and we will now preference this establishment over Cable Bay. If you're looking for public support to help reopen your outside spaces then let me know as I'd be happy to campaign on your behalf!
Food & drink was deliscious. A real shame you can no longer have food and drinks outside on the beanbags, also not being able to open the back windows it was very hot inside when there was no breeze.
My cake was delicious too
As locals we like to support locals! Great everything except service timing. Waited a long time and no drinks.
Caesar Salad had no dressing and dirt on the leaves. Special Rib-Eye had no flavour and was disappointing. Gave feedback to manager who was apologetic but didn't try to make it up in any way. Will avoid the venue in the future.
Food & atmosphere & view are all awesome ! Highly recommend !!
I had a great experience until I had the chocolate mousse dessert. It was terrible, like it was a slice with sauce dribbled over it. Not the standard I expected at all. Also the ‘biscuit base’ was dry and tasteless - it was terrible. I also didn’t expect a biscuit base to a mousse? I told the waiter and he was very understanding but I’m actually still annoyed I had to pay for it. The service was absolutely top notch though, at all points from pre booking. Amazing outlook. Thank you
As always food and venue was lovely but the service was atrocious, from the moment we got their the staff could not have been more disinterested and that didn’t change throughout the meal. From behind the bar to the floor staff no one seemed engaged or interested and would barely make eye contact, especially the gentleman in charge who thinks he’s very special indeed! It would put me of taking further guests here.
I really enjoyed my time here and the food was excellent. It would be nice if there was some more comfortable seating to have a drink in before dinner though. But everything was amazing, particularly liked the pork belly, it was perfectly cooked
We were surprised on arrival to discover the atmosphere at Cable Bay had changed as you are no longer able to drink outside or be on the grass. Our server Thibaut was fantastic and made our experience fun. However we never received one of our meals. The manager had given it away to a different table. Even after this was discovered we waited a long time for it even though our server had to come over several times to check if we had received it yet. He was very apologetic. If a mistake like that happens it would be nice to have it corrected and receive the meal. We waited so long we ended up letting them know we had to go. The manager did not come over and apologise and no compensation was made. I feel the situation could have been handled better. Even if someone is smiling if they ask to speak to the manager this should happen. A lot of times in life it is only the rude people who get helped, the people who are kind should as well.
The Private room was perfect and Camila was AMAZING making sure everyone was looked after, we really enjoyed ourselves. we got to put on our own music and the food was perfect. We all had a great time and would come back .... #Team Camila
Service was not as great as my last visit. We had our starters served, then 10mins later our mains arrived, we hadn’t even finished our starters and our servicer he wasn’t very attentive.
We had a lovely lunch however a few minor things weren’t perfect so unfortunately wasn’t able to give you 5 stars. We booked a carrot cake as were celebrating 3 special Birthdays and I was told this was $80. After discussing a severe nut allergy our son has with the person taking our reservation it was recommended we change the carrot cake to the chocolate cake to avoid any risk of nuts. To be charged $155 for this when the carrot cake was only $80 (no I wasn’t told the price on the phone) along with the cake being overcooked or stale on the base left a sour taste for us as a group. Also there were nuts over all of the dips on the entrees we ordered and the pork belly and we had specially mentioned we couldn’t have nuts. Our 7 year old is anaphylactic. Otherwise the experience was good. Shame we couldn’t go out on the lawn - we weren’t aware of this change and it was one of the main reasons we chose Cable Bay.
Great afternoon at Cable Bay - food, drink and service were perfect. They also do wine tasting sessions in the Cellar which I would highly recommend.
I booked a reservation here for New Years Eve, back in November. I got a confirmation and thought all was fine. I get called on the day to be told they can no longer seat me there, and that I could not order full meals, as they had an event. They told me that I could pay to attend the event (drinks not included), for a set fee. Or I could come and have a drink or two at the bar, and order some snacks. Then pay a smaller fee if I wanted to attend the event In the end, I didn't even go. This was planned in advance and threw my plans for the night out, but luckily Waiheke is not short of nice places with great service, such as 237 on Onetangi, who were happy to accomodate us.
Really enjoyed the service, food, wine and atmosphere. Thanks!
