Ok first of all the positives... refurbishments and facilities look great, and the staff are lovely so full marks there, but quite a few negatives I'm afraid. First of all, the room was far too hot... the fan generated no cooling effect at all. Had to open windows and the main road was loud so choice of too hot or too loud... not great. Next the food... I was very fortunate my pizza was great, but my wifes burger was bad, and chips cold. Breakfast was also cold and limited in selection. Finally noise... the rooms are not well sound proofed. First night we had a crying baby a few doors down so loud it woke us up early in the morning it sounded like was in the room with us, the second night there was a wedding and I've no idea where they were but the noise was extremely loud. Was also a lot of shouting and screaming in car park both nights which makes me think locals frequent the bars and golf club and for a hotel that advertises it is a spa that is not the least bit relaxing to have the premises used as party central!
Disappointing. Front of house staff were welcoming choice of vegetables limited and unappetising. Sweet course very limited from previous visits. When concerns were raised they were ignored. Not up to the standard received on previous visits.
We had an amazing afternoon tea. It was my daughters birthday which i had specified with my on line booking. We were greated and shown to a table with birthday confetti, and shown a box of teas to choose from. Everything from there on was perfect. We will definately be back. Thank you so much Abbey
A fabulous afternoon tea for my husband's birthday. So much food we took all the cakes home with us. Exceptional value for money. Gorgeous food. Restaurant staff were all very attentive. We will definitely come again.
The food was very nice BUT there were substitutes ie no limoncello jelly, no Scottish salmon which we were not told about prior to service. The food although nice did not look like the photos on website (bread rolls were cut into half and there were visible crusts on the bread). So consequently a little bit disappointed as it was a birthday gift. Shame.
We loved how quiet it was surrounding the hotel,it was such a peaceful afternoon tea and the food was delicious. Staff are very good and always check you’re ok and ask if you want more tea. A lovely afternoon for my wife’s birthday.
Went for an afternoon tea, service was very quick, and we weren't left waiting for long. The selection of sandwiches and sweets were plenty, and we even had to take some home because we were so full. Was very quiet when we went at 2pm, think we were the only two people in the resturant at the time, but was nice to be able to talk in peace.

It was a pleasure to eat back at the hotel 5 years after getting married there. The food was even more amazing than we remembered and the service was great, especially Stacey and Lilly who could not do enough for us. You should be very proud of them both, nothing was any trouble.

I have just spent a night at The Abbey hotel which included sap treatments dinner and breakfast. Firstly the staff are lovely and very friendly and the only criticism I could make is a lack of training on one or two members of bar staff who did not know the wine list and didn't offer an alternative when the bottle of Gavi I ordered was not there. They clearly didn't know what I was talking about. The hotel is under refurb so tired in places and our room was not 4 star but it looks like this will be improved. The spa is okay but the treatments are fantastic and Lauren and Amy do give a 4 star service. The robes we were given however were tatty, ripped old and faded. I wouldn't wear these at home! They were fit for the bin. Old faded maroon robes with brown belts from another gown. Not a good first impression which is a shame as the treatment room and treatments were excellent. I was shocked they let us walk around in them. If I had seen them before I would not have booked treatments it would have put me off. We had afternoon tea which was lovely and also dinner which as usual hotel fair but fresh and hot. The main issue I have is with the lack of management. We were put in a room in a corridor they were using as an entrance which meant we had very poor sleep. If you are refurbishing the hotel a good mange would not book out these rooms foreseeing this would be a problem. Also breakfast was a complete mess. Dirty bowls and cups and overflowing teas bags pilled into saucers by the sell service drinks. Things were not topped up and everything look chaotic and messy. Lack of good management again here to organise the staff at breakfast. The hotel has the potential to be a 4 star but with the above issues, tired décor and cheap glasswear this is only a 3 with poor service in some areas. I heard several people complaining so there is clearly problems at this hotel. They did refund our afternoon tea as a gesture of goodwill which I very much appreciated but I wouldn't return.
We did enjoy the afternoon tea, although it was a shame that when it was served, unfortunately some sandwiches were dropped onto the floor, although quickly replaced. We found the room lacked atmosphere and the lady who we first booked in with, was quite abrupt and lacked charm. When we asked for a box or bag to take the remaining food home with us, we were presented with a roll of silver foil to do it ourselves!! Most places provide a small box or paper bag!! Signposting around the hotel is poor and whilst we understand there is work going on, it was unpleasant to walk through dirty laundry bags, and weave through crockery and glasses placed on the floor by the cleaners. When we did manage to find reception, the receptionist was not the most helpful and we felt like we were interrupting her by asking where we had to go. My 80 year old mum, whose birthday we were celebrating, went to the toilet and when she sat on the seat it was clearly broken and slid off the toilet pan!! The toilets and bins appeared dirty, dusty and generally not what you expect from a hotel described as four star. Would choose another venue next time.

We had the afternoon tea, was very disappointed to have our ‘selection of teas’ which you advertise on the menu, as a teabag in a mug with a jug of milk! We could have made this ourselves at home.

I came for Afternoon tea with my mom and daughter it was a birthday gift from a friend. The food was good although none of us liked the veg option. However we were the only ones in the restaurant so there was a lack of atmosphere. But we did enjoy ourselves. And we would recommend.
I booked afternoon tea as a late mothers day present with myself, my mother and brother and sister. It was also a really special day as we rarely get together as a family as we do not live near each other. So we have all been looking forward to this afternoon! To be honest the food and service was very disappointing to say the least! Myself and my sister are vegan and vegetarian. This was mentioned upon booking a long time ago. Upon arrival we were both brought out separate plates of food to which I really didnt like the taste of my 4 sandwiches. Which was a mix of hummus and beetroot. It would have been nice to have had a mixture of sandwiches. Hummus, avocado maybe, vegan cheese and pickle. I felt that not much thought had gone into what I was being given. There is so much out there for vegans it is disappointing that I felt no body had taken the time to offer a selection. It was like it was too much hassle. The main issue was that my sister who is vegetarian was given a plate of sandwiches (6 intotal) two of which were actually MEAT!!!! when we called over the waiter we asked what it was and they didnt even seem to know!! The waitress also came over and they both looked at each other and said it looks like bacon or ham. Obviously who ever prepared the sandwiches does not understand vegetarians as they DO NOT eat meat! The waiter took her plate away and literally within minutes came back and had just taken off the meat sandwiches! I saw him the other side of the restaurant with the plate just checking it. So no fresh sandwiches had been made! Very sneaky!!! I dont think he saw me. My sister was expected to eat the remaining sandwiches which had been put next to meat. There seems to be an undeniable lack of knowledge and ignorance about both vegan and vegetarian food at your hotel. I live in Leicester and have had some amazing vegan/vegetarian afternoon teas and was not made to feel like we were inconveniencing anyone!!!! Which is how both me and my sister felt! My sister did not feel like eating anything else after that and did not trust what other food was there. The serving staff seemed pretty unbothered about our awful experience. Why they didn't ask us as customers 'what can we make for you or do for you to make this a better experience'? The male waiter even made a joke about what an awful experience we were having...hasten to add we didn't find his humour funny! Upon paying there was no mention of refunds or reimbhursing us for our terrible experience. I ended up paying £39 for four afternoon teas, two of which were awful! My sister commented upon paying how disappointed she was but nothing was done. Unfortunately I will not be recommending your hotel or food to anyone and I intend on reviewing you on Tripadvisor also. Extremely disappointing food and service. Customer service due to the situation was also not acceptable. I feel that this could have been rectified had the waiter and waitress bothered to make our food better by asking us and communicating to the kitchen. As the main point of contact with the customer why did they not also check the food going out in the first instance. Especially as the waitress knew there was a vegan and vegetarian tea. Also presentation wise why were we only given plates and not on a stand like the 'meat eaters'. This automatically made us feel 'not very special'. Ultimately if you are not able to cater for vegans/vegetarians which evidently you are not. Then this should be stipulated upon booking. This would have saved alot of hassle, time and disappointment! May I suggest who ever is responsible for creating afternoon teas does their research on different food varieties. An utterly awful afternoon tea! Never again...
