Coffee was cold and the staff were stretched so the service was slow. We had afternoon tea which was very average.
Overall very disappointing. The same serving spoon had to be used for condiments and vegetables. The yorkshire puddings were inedible. We were told the meat selection was Beef, Pork and Gammon, it was actually Beef, Turkey and Gammon. When asked if the meat was outdoor reared, there was a shrug of the shoulders, followed by 'No idea'. The gas heater keeping the hot pudding and custard had gone out, so they were cold. The dessert selection looked like it hadn't been tidied since the start of service. The cheese on the cheese board had dried and gone hard. Drinks were placed between the cutlery on the table, so on returning to the table, you first had to move your drinks before you could put your plate down.
Hotel was not able to cope with number of people they had booked in for the weekend. At evening meal they had run out of many options for wine, at breakfast it was chaos as two many people not enough table, running out of food and cutlery very quickly. The staff worked very hard but put under extreme pressure by the poor organisation of the management team
We've been to the carvery before but this weekend there was a smaller selection of starters and vegetables with the mains. Quality of the food was fine, but...
We were not advised that there was refurbishment taking place and that the bar was closed. The only bar was at other end of the building and stank of chlorine from the pool. As to the food itself the main course was fine but the fish cake seemed like it had been pre heated I cannot however fault the staff but there should have been a price reduction for the lack of facilities
Great staff, friendly accommodating and really went out the way for us
We ended up being seated in the bar rather than the restaurant and it seemed like the bar were not prepared at all. As it was the bar area there was no table service so we had to go up to ask for more tea, no one came to check. And when we did ask, it took 15 mins to come over and then take the tea pots to be refilled. The food itself was nice enough, but I would point out that even though this was for 3 people, there weren’t 3 of all the cakes which seemed a bit disappointing.
Lovely Sunday lunch as always, but service and general atmosphere was virtually non-existent. Hotel is being refurbished so maybe this was why, but no one around in the makeshift reception area or at the bar, nor anyone to seat us at our table so we just walked in and found it ourselves. Table only cleared after we had stacked everything ourselves. Was also charged for coffee after lunch, which has always been included (have been coming for Sunday lunch for the last 4 years). Will return after the refurb is completed and service and atmosphere is back to normal.
We have been to the Abbey Hotel 3 times now and it was our favourite hotel in the UK but the afternoon tea was disappointing, main meal was in the bar rather than the restaurant which we weren’t advised of before we came and the meal itself wasn’t to standard.
Booked afternoon tea for a 50th birthday suprise. Rang to confirm earlier in the week, received confirmation by email and price confirmation. However when we arrived sadly there was no record of our booking. After about 15-20 mins and clearing a table ourselves, we finally got to sit down. The tea was served late but neverthe less, nice enough. Then when we went to pay the price was different from what had been advertised/quoted. Although we had an enjoyable afternoon there is obviously the need to address a few of the finer points
Asked for rose petals on booking, on arrival nothing on the bed. Meant to have two course meal at Bradley’s, instead had two courses at the pub style restaurant with pub style food. Steaks were burned. Poor food. Even weatherspoons serves better food. Pool was cold, was told will be fixed next week. Jacuzzi not working. Dirt accumulation in the middle of jacuzzi. Overall your hotel cannot be classed as spa as facilities it working and not as four stars as service was poor. As a busy couple booking one night at your hotel for a break after three hours drive from London, it was a huge disappointment and waste of time and money for us! I would like to get a full refund.
Very good afternoon
My friend and I had such a lovely afternoon in the Tawney bar enjoying our afternoon tea which was a christmas present from my granddaughter. The sandwiches were delicious and the cakes were to die for! Would highly recommend
