About Bracken Place Restaurant
Enjoy contemporary à la carte cuisine served in elegant surroundings at the Bracken Place Restaurant at the DoubleTree by Hilton Southampton hotel. This Southampton restaurant has a raised terrace area with views of the gardens. Try one of our delicious dishes while relaxing with friends or colleagues.
Arrived at 2:30pm- Disinterested staff on arrival, restaurant empty but told we had to sit in bar and wait until 3pm our booked time. This in itself was not a problem for us but when allowed to be seated the food had clearly been or-prepared and left in a fridge, everything was cold and dried out, tea was needed to wash it down. Had to ask for top up water for tea pot. We witnessed poor customer service to a wedding photographer who asked for some food. This was our second time visiting, as last time was not the best and wanted to see if a one off, clearly not. We have visited The Hilton at Ageas twice as well and the quality and service is on another level. Disappointing visit , will stick with Ageas Hilton.
Positively one of the worst meals out that I have ever had. We were quite literally the only people in the restaurant. There were items that were not available. Service was poor, zero atmosphere, items on the menu and drinks menu were missing. At the end of the meal we were told we could have coffee as The kitchen staff had left. Absolutely dreadful from start to finish
Thank you for a great afternoon with friends.
Lovely atmosphere staff and food
I and my friend had an enjoyable afternoon and throughly enjoyed our cream tea and finding on arrival my friend is a vegetarian you found him an enjoyable alternative so thank you.
This rating/ feedback is for the afternoon tea only. Would give a higher rating if based on the groupon deal only as for half price it was perfectly adequate. However, if paying full price the following were niggles not to be ignored: Large periods of time without anyone around to provide service once the initial drinks and food had been brought to the table. The tea consisted of one scone per person, which was sufficient, but one small single jar of jam and pot of cream between 2 people seemed strange. Could have been a genuine mistake but no one around to ask. Selection of v small cakes (3 per person, one an inch square) boring and all sponge based. No dessert. Sandwiches- some of the bread was dry, fillings ok but nothing special ,egg mayo, salmon, wafer thin ham and mustard. Cheese and chutney. On a positive note, the location, free parking, initial service and welcome, assortment of teas provided and the restaurant its self, were lovely. Some small changes (ensure the restaurant is serviced whilst you have customers, ensure jar of jam/cream per scone is provided, add a little variety/texture of cake or/& a dessert or savory) could make a huge difference and then I'd happily pay full price.
Not nice to see dirty tables around you Only one member of staff doing everything on a busy Sunday afternoon Afternoon tea of poor quality Scones were more like rock cakes ! Little cakes too same as each other No atmosphere and was sat too close to other tables and we couldn’t hear ourselves talking there was no privacy Very disappointing
Pleasant afternoon tea in pleasant surroundings. Good purchase.
We use this hotel and for dinner and breakfast. It has always been fine. The odd niggles pf the past did not arise on this most recent stay. We will continue to use.
Lovely food only offered one pot off tea wasn’t asked if we wanted anymore and no staff around to ask the man in charge very unapproachable
Good waitress sevice
We were mainly served by two young lads who were clearly new to the job or on work experience. They were both very attentive and professional.
Staff friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere .
Ae come for afternoon tea twice a year. I found the voucher I bought online was easy to use. The trainee boy was lovely who served us as we knew he was learning by the way he was pulled to one side when he asked if we would like some juice for my grandaughter which we knew wasn't included in the price and so we were willing to pay for. My Mum year in year has latte with her afternoon tea but she would of had to pay for this. Also this time of year we would of had crackers on the table and the hotel use to look more festive but any of that would not stop myself and my family come back.
I would not pay full price for this afternoon tea but good value with a groupon voucher. Sandwiches were a little boring and needed to ask for more jam and cream as only had enough for one scone.
Lovely food and atmosphere perfect for after our day of Xmas shopping 😀
We arrived at 3pm for our afternoon tea booking, after 5 mins waiting at the front desk we were told someone would be with us shortly. We waited another 5 mins before we were eventually seated. There were only 2 other guests in the restaurant and what appeared to be a small wedding party (c. 20 people). We waited another 10 mins before the waiter came over to take our order and further 5 mins before our drinks were bought to our table; followed by another 5 mins before the small plate of sandwiches, scones and cakes was bought out. so in total 30 mins after we arrived. The staff were apologetic for the delays, but appeared they were short staffed with the wedding party. The food was average (albeit the scones were warm and very tasty, but only one small pot of jam and a small amount of clotted cream) and we were not asked if everything was ok and/or offered more tea, which was a disappointment as the pot only held 1.5 cups. Overall, a very average experience.
Food was ok, service not great, not very well organised. Wouldn’t recommend afternoon tea even on a groupon voucher
On arrival we were told to go to the restaurant. No one bothered to come over to greet us nor sit us down. Whilst waiting i went over to the bar to get someone, there was no one to be seen. In the end i got so fed up i asked what I thought to be a waitress (im not really sure what she was she was folding napkins ontop of a piano) she looked at me all confused when i informed her we were there for afternoon tea. In the end a male waiter came over and grumpily showed us a seat and said "is here okay?" then walked off. A nice blonde young lady (waitress) got us tea and we were given menus for the children. We asked for everything to be brought out at the same time which she pleasantly agreed to. I wish I new her name as she gave us a better customer service experience than the staff higher ranked than her. Perhaps you should rethink your whole teams positions as for someone who has worked in the customer service industry for over 10 years and has qualifications in this area of expertise i feel it was terrible, no one went the extra mile, if I was here on a inspection you probably would of failed this. The food was average it could of been fresher, the scones were hard, bread was stale on the ends and we had one small jug of milk between 3 pots of tea. Im extremely glad I had this as a group on deal and not paid full price. Perhaps this was the reason the staff didn't go to much efforts? To top things off we were then insulted by another customer who looked at us in disgusted because we had our children with us, please note our children were exceptionally well behaved you genuinely wouldn't of even known they were there, obviously this is no fault to the staff but it was completely unacceptable behaviour from another customer and definitely made me feel less important. I can say its most likely that I will not be returning due to all the issues i have noted. But thank you to the blonde young lady who waited on us I hope you get the recognition you deserve.
Restaurant was actually shut and we sat in an area off the bar. Menu different to online. Service slow and not helpful. Complained and did get a complimentary meal but left very disappointed. Food was fine but dessert of cheese was a bit basic. No promised grapes or celery but provided cucumber on one and courgette on another. Strange replacement!! Overall a disappointing visit.
The food looked good and tasted lovely Staff where nice setting us up with the tea Would have liked a top up of hot water for the tea otherwise fab afternoon
I have a dietary need which was fulfilled, excellent cream tea.
Visited Bracken Place Hilton for an afternoon tea. Food and drinks were good quality; service by Harvey was excellent. He was very attentive and looked after my friend and I very well. It was nice to be served by someone obviously enjoying his work experience.
Did not appear to be very well organised waited ages to find a staff member to greet us eventually had to seek out a member of bar staff
Coffee was disgusting one of the cakes were slightly icey the scone I try to cut as I did I call just crumbled nothing was fresh apart from the tea it was the worst afternoon tea I’ve ever had. I phone up before I arrived to confirm the reservations no one spoke English and I was difficult to just to confirm after putting be on hold twice for two minutes each just to get someone who spoke English did not expect any of this from the Hilton terrible experience for me and my wife on our anniversary
