About Boclair House
Boclair House is a beautiful Tudor mansion situated at the foot of Boclair Hill. Annabelle's our lounge bar will endeavour to deliver excellence in traditional Scottish Cuisine, seasoned with modern cooking methods and techniques, resulting in delicious dishes
Excellent food and drink choices with reasonable prices in a sophisticated but relaxed atmosphere and with prompt friendly service. Lacking a proper seating area for pre-dinner drinks - 5 bar stools don't encourage group chats - and lighting a bit too dark above some tables to read menu easily but neither are major issues that would put me off dining here again or recommending to friends
Our afternoon tea was delicious and the service couldn't have been better. Most enjoyable and would certainly like to return at a later date .
Last Friday we had "afternoon tea" at Boclair House. I only wish I'd read the comments on TripAdvisor for this. Totally underwhelming - beef & ham sandwiched had the thinnest piece of meat I've ever seen & mostly tasted of mustard/horseradish!! There were three of us and we had eight sandwiches so I asked for another sandwich so that we could have three each !! Even then the ones served at the beginning had gone hard on the outer edges!! Cakes weren't great either and dotted around with some chocolates to make it look better no doubt !! Plain scones a bowl of clotted cream and individual pots of jam. All this for £19.50 seemed like a rip-off. We were there with a friend to mark her birthday so didn't say anything on the day!! A pity as its such a lovely place !!
I have already sent an email directly to the hotel with my feedback but service is slow and food isn’t great. Over an hour and wait for starters, over 30 mins with the desert menus before taking orders and decided not to bother as we would have had to wait at least another 30 mins to get them. Duck was over cooked and none of the food was very hot except children’s meal.
Choice on menu was good. Service was good. A basket of bread for the table would be a nice touch. Tap water was freely available.
Absolutely loved our stay at Boclair!! Caroline on reception couldn't have welcomed us any more and always with a smile!! Breakfast in bed was great, and a paper delivered was a great touch. Lovely suite and comfort was perfect, only thing I would suggest is a king size bed instead of a double. The size of the room was luxurious just not the bed. Dinner in the Annabel was beautiful and more, staff were very attentive! We will be back in the future...
Gorgeous setting for yummy afternoon tea
My family had a great experience on saturday for mums birthday dinner . The black friday deal was used and was of great value . On sunday i posted a 5 star review on trip adviser regarding the hotel and staff . So once again thanks very much for a lovely evening .
We had a lovely lunch/afternoon at boclair house. The staff were great will definitely be back.
Very nice staff though rather overworked on the day and table not ready for us. I was promised something nice for my guest's birthday and it was noted on the booking but nothing was done, though they did sing happy birthday when it was pointed out.
Afternoon tea was rather 'ordinary' cakes in particular were poor- the cheesecake was still frozen!
We had a lovely time. The food was excellent and the service was friendly, attentive and personal. Couldn't ask for any better.
Overall it was a lovely place and the food was delicious. We did check in advance that there would be vegan options on the menu though and there weren't and we had to chase for options for each course (then the two people ordering the vegan main course were given different things and the only option for pudding was a fruit salad which was a little disappointing ). Also the service was very slow - the waitress would take one drink order at a time so my sister waited 20 minutes for her order to be taken; we had to ask for the dessert orders to be taken and then also chase for them to be brought out as several family members needed to leave at 4.15 for a flight and had to leave half way through dessert because it took so long (table was booked for 1.15!). The staff were very friendly though and the setting and food was nice, service just let it down sadly.
Very slow service. Waiting staff mixed up gluten free orders.Pumpkin Soup had run out on Christmas Eve For a 5pm reservation and was substituted for an unseasonal tomato Waitress did not know if coffee was included even though it was written on the menu and we waited half an hour for it. I was told that the table had to be back by 8. We could have been out by 7 if the staff had been on the ball. Very disappointed and would be reluctant to use again. A pity ...such a lovely setting.
We had such a lovely day/night x
First time having dinner in Boclair House.Food was excellent, from starter to sweet. We all had different choices and everyone was impressed. The staff were friendly and gave off a good vibe. Would go back again. Only downside, no bar afterwards to sit and have a drink. Only 4 barstools, not ideal if you ant a cocktail or drink after dinner.
Our party of six had a truly wonderful night, food, service and ambience were all first rate.
Very friendly atmosphere and a lovely waitress LUCY.
A pleasurable experience have returned on numerous occasions
We were seated in a separate room to the main Annabelles restaurant so there was not much atmosphere. The menu was quite limited. Salmon starter was bland. Turkey main was dry and quite fatty. We skipped dessert as the options were uninspiring and the starter and main had been disappointing. Had a fabulous Christmas dinner in Dobbies a couple of weeks back at £15 per person so the £21 plus drinks here was not good value considering the poor quality. We keep giving Boclair another chance but from five visits now we have enjoyed two (one of which was compliments of the hotel after a terrible mother’s day experience), and had three poor experiences. Don’t see us returning any time soon, which is a shame as the staff are generally ok and the surroundings are nice.
We were a party of 10 celebrating a special occasion but were left disappointed after our visit - happy to make specific comments if someone would like to email me directly?
Fantastic service and food as always from the Boclair team. We are getting married here next year and the staff could not be more kind or helpful! The food was delicious and was great to enjoy in such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. Cannot wait to visit again soon!
No carnberry sauce due to party night on Saturday but the star waiter Bryan found not one but two dishes and it just finished off the turkey. My husband asked for very very hot latte and once again was not disappointed. Good time had by all. Service excellent as usual . Thanks to everyone.
Lovely afternoon tea, decent price and lovely location
For our friends birthday, we booked a table for 4 people. The visit to Boclair was a first for all of us and we were very impressed at the warm and welcoming interior. We were greeted by the lovely staff and a glass of prosecco was offered; we decided on a bottle instead and throughout our visit, we had to ask for refills which was quite annoying. Surely if a bottle is open, it would make more sense for waiting staff to keep an eye on depleting glasses? When we booked, we had said that one vegan was attending, and was that a problem? We were told, "not at all". The sandwich/cake stands arrived promptly and although the vegan option was tasty (beetroot and onion mini ciabattas) there was only one type. Now, I appreciate that to have a whole kitchen full of vegan options is not practical, we felt that one choice was not comparative to the 3 'non-vegans' multiple selection, cakes included. Can I also point out that 'vegan food' can actually be eaten by the vast majority of people, not just vegans... We also had to ask for the tea which arrived after the sandwiches were eaten, I'm not sure if this was standard but we felt it rather odd! Overall, it was a lovely experience but still requires considerable 'polishing'.
