About Boathouse Restaurant
With panoramic views over Christchurch quay the boathouse has the most unique location in Christchurch
In the summer months relax and enjoy the most of the sunshine by dining alfresco in our extensive outside seating areas, while in the winter months stay warm inside by our log fire.
We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner every day throughout the year (sorry closed 25th dec) and always have a fantastic selection of homemade cakes and drinks available through the day.
In addition to this we have live acoustic music playing every weekend from Friday through to Sunday.
Please note we welcome dogs on our veranda and outside areas (but unfortunately not inside) .
Great restaurant with a fab location and good food! Unfortunately they had sold out of the dish I wanted (Hake) but apart from that all good.
5* vfm as ‘eat out to help out’ day! Service was good - we had an issue as our table wasn’t ready and we were seated outside in direct sunshine which was unbearable. We were told there were no other tables available. However, another group of 3 - as were we - who I had asked about their booking slot and were later than us were then given a table in the shade. We were then moved inside but to a sofa and coffee table seat. Not ideal but better than sitting in the heat of the sun! Food was delish. Very, very busy. The staff that served us were fab - the foh person was perhaps overwhelmed by how busy it was and failed to make us feel welcome.
Coming with my 4 year old and a friend with her newborn, we felt completely comfortable and the staff were lovely
Great place fo4 a relaxing meal with good food.
Amazing location and great holiday feel
Food was excellent. Very tasty, although chicken dish not as hot as it should have been. Interesting choice on menu. Something to suit all. Service was poor, which was a shame as it’s such a lovely place. Waitresses seem more interested in chatting to friends. Service was also very slow. We did not receive what we asked for (a glass of wine) and it was tricky to get attention. However, we enjoyed the meal and would return. Prepared to put the service down to lack of experience.
Had breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Full cooked breakfast very good. 3 egg pancake with bacon and mushroom excellent and filling Plenty of inside and outside room allows for good social distancing and felt very comfortable
Quality of The main course was a little amateur, I could have cooked this much better, a shame for the price.
The young lady that served us was amazing, funny and very polite. The food and drinks were also amazing. Will be returning very soon
Really enjoyed our visit and just enhanced our day trip to Christchurch
Well organised during the new Covid restrictions, as someone who has been shielding, I was quite anxious about coming out but found things very safe, staff all wearing masks and taking social distancing seriously.
Service was excellent, great atmosphere. Starters were good, but mains seemed overpriced for what they were eg burger £17. Would definitely go back but maybe just for starters and dessert. Also it's great in here for morning coffees overlooking the quomps.
Lovely food and nice atmosphere When the bill came out it was immediately obvious that it was not our bill. II decided to tell the waiter we had the wrong bill and been waiting a long time to get a correct one . Otherwise the food was delicious.
Really lovely lunch at the Boathouse yesterday. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and a great setting. We’ve been to the Boathouse a lot over the years and always enjoy it, but was particularly impressed on this visit with the precautions implemented due to Covid. We felt really safe and comfortable that everything was being done to keep staff and customers safe. Thank you!
We had a really lovely lunch and the staff were very friendly. They all coped well with the social distancing. Food was delicious.
We did not feel covid-safe. Our table for 2 was next to a through way. Staff and clients had to walk past our table throughout the meal and often stopped and chatting next to us. it was the only way through to the other side of the restaurant. We left as soon as we had eaten the main courses that we had ordered. It was not worth the money as although the food was ok we did not enjoy it. We told the waitress and she was fine and said she would tell the manager whom we did not see. Difficult to get out as people were chatting by the exit!
Poor service. Felt very rushed. Not a great experience. Very disappointed. Had been before and had similar experience but wanted to give them another chance Not again
This was the first time we have eaten at The Boat House and the first time eating out since 'lockdown'. Felt totally at ease and the food was lovely. The staff and service was excellent and we were impressed by how attentive staff were, considering they were busy.
We’re in our 40’s with teenage children...it’s rare you find a place with such a mix of good food, good music, great atmosphere and such dynamic, attentive and happy staff! Go!
We always love coming to the Boathouse and we’re glad you’re open again. A great place to meet friends and great food.
Having eating in the Boathouse several times in the past, the level of service and attention to detail has definitely lowered. The waitress were friendly and good but, it just lacked the usual sparkle and some of the girls should be reminded that customers do not want to see their underwear while they are eating due to inappropriate clothing. My water glass had red lipstick on it, this in very worrying in the current climate with cov19 that the glasses were not washed thoroughly. Also very disappointed that my daughter who has several allergies could not eat any of the food on the menu due to all food been cooked in the same oil. The Boathouse advertise being able to cater for vegan & allergies, but, cooking everything in the same oil is not the correct procedure and is a food standard concern. Finally the one way system in place was very confusing as there was no visible signs at the side door that this was the entry point. Lots of people were trying to push through as they had tables booked, this was a social distancing concern. Food was really delicious but, not sure even that positive factor would entice me to go back soon.
Lovely Brunch with great service. Great choices on the menu and everyone was happy with their choice and the quality of the food when it arrived. Coffees are always really good here so no surprise the food was too. We had front table but no shade so asked to be moved out of the sun which as it was quiet was not a problem. Its a shame the front tables have no shade but thats a personal preference so didnt take away from the review stars
Wonderful, I'll be back!
Very enjoyable evening. Staff very pleasant. Measures in place to meet Covid requirements.
