About Boathouse Bar + Grill
Here at the Boathouse, we specialise in fantastic pub classics with a twist, the shropshire gold battered haddock fillet is a hit all year round, the in-house made burgers are a hit with the locals and the charcoal cooked steaks can be smelt from the restaurant.
The kitchen is led by a brigade that offer a variety of skills to bring to every table, supplying only the best local produce from Shropshire, this with the friendly service and fantastic views of the river severn create a dining experience we are sure you will enjoy all year round.
Really lovely atmosphere, even on a rainy day. Nice and cosy under the marquee. Thank you to all the staff.
Great night with friends - made easy by Boathouse atmosphere and staff
A lovely evening and felt very safe under the current circumstances
Recommend: Yes, gladly. But mostly for the lovely location, with gentle caveats on food, etc. Food & Drink: Food was nice but the bacon was missing (without explanation) from our chicken burgers. Atmosphere: Lovely, riverside table, vibrant, COVID safe, nice staff. Service: Staff attentive, effective and pleasant, but a couple of them seemed annoyed to be there. Value for money: Prices are too high for what is on offer. £13 for a few strips of (albeit nice) beef on some greens is too much. The chicken burgers were nice enough (even without the bacon) but the only outstanding thing about the dish was the novelty dish in which it was served.
Excellent outside dining, heaters working well 😊
You have done a great job transforming your pub to fully utilise its riverside location in the current circumstances. Very well organised and very good service. Very nice atmosphere. The covered area is heated and comfortable. Good choice of food and drink.
We booked for 8.30 for food and drink, then shown a table that was near the heater so we thought wonderful! We sat down ordered drinks and some food, told our server we wanted to keep the menu as we would order more in a bit. Had the burger and the Camembert I told her I had an onion allergy so the onion marmalade needs to be separate, the marmalade came in a pot but right next to the Camembert which I was annoyed at as it’s a serious allergy (the food was nothing to write home about) until I had a bit more Camembert that turned out to include a full clove of garlic, to my horror as I bit down on it. We also had ordered another drink before the food arrived but this hadn’t arrived and actually had to ask where it was - it had not been put on the till by our waitress. Also we noticed extremely quickly after first sitting down that there were a LOT of staff just stood in groups chatting and not doing anything - there were several trays of drinks on the bar waiting for at least ten minutes and tables to clear during these ‘group chats’. Then our waitress comes over and asks if we want any more food - I asked if she could check if they had a certain sauce before I ordered (as it depended on that as to then what I was going to order) she then proceeds to not check and then 10/15 minutes later come past us and realise she forgot then goes to ask. She comes back and tells us and we then order more food (and ask for a dessert menu too) she brings us dessert menus, some time goes past at least 10 minutes by this time it was about 9.12pm and then she comes up to us and states that the kitchen closed at 9pm and that we can’t have what we ordered and furthermore we can’t have dessert. I asked her - even though we have had a main meal we can’t have dessert? And she bluntly said no. I was extremely disappointed, even more so that if she had done her job correctly and not forgotten about us then our order would have been in the kitchen on time and we would of had what we wanted! I’ve worked in hospitality and also at the boat house previously and we had to stay open as a kitchen until all dessert orders had been finished. No one at all told us that the kitchen closed at 9pm otherwise we would of been more conscious of this! Not even our server when she knew we were keeping a menu to order more food. And the cherry on top was when she brought our bill over - she hadn’t even taken off the food we weren’t allowed to have. Terrible service, ridiculous how all the staff were just stood around doing nothing when I could see so many jobs to do. Not a fan of the fact you have blankets on the seats either - the amount of people using them and you’re not sanitising or cleaning them after each use, that’s a great way to help spread a disease in a pandemic! I would know as I work at the hospital! Overall a really really disappointing and crap first date night after finally being able to go on one after working constantly through the pandemic.
Fabulous place. Food really good, great atmosphere. Glad to see them step up to the easing of lockdown.
Amazing service. Great organisation (especially needed during covid). The food was delivered quickly, tasted delicious and was excellent value!! Staff were super attentive and we can’t wait to come back!!
Doing a great job in difficult circumstances
Great staff and surroundings, understand costs are high but some of the meals markup was over the top.
The service was great and so was food
Lovely food and lovely setting. Nice a warm with the heaters and blankets are a nice touch
Food was absolutely delicious. Cannot fault it!
Food had plenty of variety and tasted amazing, We were definitely safe. Atmosphere was fantastic.
Can’t get enough of this place!
Great food and service - perfect venue for outdoor dining
Excellent as always. Atmosphere restricted by current situation, not your fault.
A young girl called yasmin was particularly helpful.
Had an excellent lunch. The outdoor set up is really well done, we were as warm and comfortable as if we were inside, despite a mediocre day weather wise. Staff were all helpful and accommodating as I had a baby with me.
A noisy table close to us was unfortunate. A few tables were also smoking and we would have preferred to know in advance that it was a smoking area so we could have requested a table away from smokers.
Great atmosphere next to the river, with some of the best pub food I’ve had in a long time. Service was really quick and staff very friendly. Highly recommend.
Had a working lunch with colleagues at the Boathouse. Staff were accommodating and responsive to our needs. Food was lovely, although was slightly more expensive (£2-3 more per dish) than I would have liked to have paid. Due to currently being outside, would benefit from a public WiFi connection. The main criticism was that other customers were allowed to smoke in the covered area which was not pleasant for us. Please consider not allowing smoking in covered outside area.
