About Boars Head
Welcome to the Boars Head, a 16th century building located in the heart of Hoghton, Lancashire, close to both Preston and Blackburn. We’re a local village pub, situated just a few minutes away from Hoghton Tower, offering a warm welcome with exceptional, friendly service and hearty, locally produced and seasonal food.
Along with its heritage and beautiful timber interior, the Boars Head has timeless appeal and is believed to be one of the final overnight stops of the famous Pendle witches in 1612, before their eventual trials and sentencing at Lancaster.
Never thought of having a ploughman's till my friend Wayne recommended it three of us out not four had it and he was right very good and value for money we were stuffed.will be having again 😁
The food is ok but not at the premium prices you are charging. Service was slow, even though it was very quiet, and we ordered a round of drinks that we did not get. With lots of other choices in the area I could not recommend this pub to a friend
fantastic food and service by the staff and owners .
Visited at lunch time and we had a lovely meal and were well looked after in warm surroundings.
Good for a family meal out.
The sharing platter was amazing! I would like to see more sides as extras...red cabbage or a green side! The girl who served us was attentive and genuine(sorry I didn’t get her name) I posted my photo of the roast on Instagram and had lots of positive feedback so would definitely recommend
Have been to the Boars Head quite a few times mainly for the Sunday lunch, we have tried all the different meats which have all been excellent, also the food comes piping hot and served on hot plates this definitely makes a difference. Service is good with very polite and helpful staff.
I have NEVER had a bad meal at the Boars Head. The food is normal fare (which I prefer) -- and always delicious. Service is very good and the staff are always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
On the occasions I’ve been t9 the Boar’s Head for lunch I have enjoyed excellent food and super service.
The fish and chips were delicious however the service was poor. We had to remind our server to take our order, and then later we were offered a dessert menu which never arrived. The price was ok, however at that level, excellent service should be part of the deal
Prompt polite service, good food, excellent Sunday roast lunch.
I come back to the Boar's Head as the food is lovely. The Cheese Pie is to die for. However there is something that really niggles me. There is always a stingy portion of chips! It's not just me, as I came with a party of 9 and everyone commented on the same. Great chips but why so mean. Honest it's the cheapest thing on th he plate. To add 4 or 5 more chips would be my advice. Just saying...
It was very busy as it was Mother’s Day. But we were well looked after and didn’t have to wait long for our food.
We visited on Mother's Day which is naturally a very busy time for eating establishments. I am pleased to say that this didn't stop the food and service from being a high standard. Well Done Boar's Head!!
Food very good and very attentive staff. Will definately be back for food. The bar jowever made us feel unwelcome. Not sure if this was just because it was busy
Excellent food and service.
All five star as usual.
Lovely meal. Booked on line to guarantee a table. Quite busy but good atmosphere. Service was slightly affected but overall a good evening was had.
First of many visits we hope. Food fantastic and service second to none, thanks to Maureen. It is great to see such attention to detail. THANK YOU X
Lovely Sunday lunch despite it being very busy, will definitely be back.
Always a good Sunday lunch, whether you eat in the restaurant or in the bar area.
Tipped a full glass of coke over my lady friend....Accidents happen...Accepted. The black pudding was covered in a grey unappetizing sauce rendering it tasteless. The fish batter was soggy and full of fat Food presentation was lacking but the prices were fully loaded... Very disappointed and will not be returning..
Very accommodating, faultless food, lovely efficient staff and a great time had every time we visit
The great thing about the Boars Head is that the food and service is consistently very good. That is why we keep going back!
