About Boars Head
Welcome to the Boars Head, a 16th century building located in the heart of Hoghton, Lancashire, close to both Preston and Blackburn. We’re a local village pub, situated just a few minutes away from Hoghton Tower, offering a warm welcome with exceptional, friendly service and hearty, locally produced and seasonal food.
Along with its heritage and beautiful timber interior, the Boars Head has timeless appeal and is believed to be one of the final overnight stops of the famous Pendle witches in 1612, before their eventual trials and sentencing at Lancaster.
There are eating establishments as good but none better!
Very much improved from my previous visit about 12 months ago. Lamb rump delicious! Table waitress really lovely.
As a vegetarian the only thing besides a salad that I would eat is the cheese and onion pie. There should be more vegetarian choices as I wouldn't want to eat the same food every time I came.
I think it would be better to leave credit card payments open to add a tip. We visited after a walk and had no cash to leave a tip. The service was good and I would have liked to leave a tip. I’ll definitely come back, though.
Great food as always
Overpriced. Children's bangers were chipolatas and only 3. Customers complaining about children eating there and staff agreed that children should be kept seperately. My children are polite, perfectly behaved and well spoken so certainly shouldn't have to hear elderly folk complaining at being sat near them.
Always looked after, food never disappoints , ambiance and service second to none . Keep up the good work
Excellent evening, brilliant and friendly service, great food as always. We were a party of 6 and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and evening.
Very pleasant, efficient, amazing food. Highly recommend. Best meal I’ve had out in a while.
Always a fantastic meal, great service, great food & a lovely relaxed atmosphere! We love it, a big thank you to all of the staff.
Excellent service from Ethan and Fenton Very friendly and helpful Will definitely return
Usual warm welcome even though we were 30 mins early for our booking. Excellent service and delicious food. Great value for money. We'll be back !
Once again we had had a lovely Christmas Dinner at the Boars Head, so relaxing and trouble free with friendly helpful staff and excellent food and drink.
Wonderful food and a lovely evening - thank you x
The turkey Christmas lunch was pleasant, but a smaller portion than expected and the pig in blanket was disappointingly undercooked. Other items on the menu all seemed to be a little overpriced
Booked for 2.00 pm thinking that it would be relatively quiet. In fact it was very busy. Regarding the food I had one of the best Fish and Chips ever. Very well done.
Excellent in every way.
Been to eat here now several times and never had a bad meal... lovely every time... well worth my 15 mile trip 😁 Will be back soon
Great sunday lunch as always
Only point I would make is that waiting staff should be prepped on 'sold outs'. Coming back to say no after a dish has been ordered is really not acceptable.
Friendly helpful staff and great food
Friendly helpful staff and great food
a very good menu at the moment - food hot and quick to serve - very polite staff. We will be going back again soon!
Top notch service and food .
The food and service were excellent and the staff very helpful and courteous. The restaurant side of the operation was, for us, faultless. However, we had persuaded another 2 couples to meet us in the bar area after our meal. They were reluctant to revisit following a previous experience. Within minutes of joining them they asked to leave as the language in our part of the bar area was very limited in its descriptive capacity! Not, in our opinion, acceptable in a public bar area and something I consider the bar staff should have been attentative to. Consequently, our attempt to entice our friends back to the Boars Head totally failed! Restaurant excellent but chose the Public bar area carefully if you decide to stay for a drink
