About Boars Head
Welcome to the Boars Head, a 16th century building located in the heart of Hoghton, Lancashire, close to both Preston and Blackburn. We’re a local village pub, situated just a few minutes away from Hoghton Tower, offering a warm welcome with exceptional, friendly service and hearty, locally produced and seasonal food.
Along with its heritage and beautiful timber interior, the Boars Head has timeless appeal and is believed to be one of the final overnight stops of the famous Pendle witches in 1612, before their eventual trials and sentencing at Lancaster.
a very good menu at the moment - food hot and quick to serve - very polite staff. We will be going back again soon!
Top notch service and food .
The food and service were excellent and the staff very helpful and courteous. The restaurant side of the operation was, for us, faultless. However, we had persuaded another 2 couples to meet us in the bar area after our meal. They were reluctant to revisit following a previous experience. Within minutes of joining them they asked to leave as the language in our part of the bar area was very limited in its descriptive capacity! Not, in our opinion, acceptable in a public bar area and something I consider the bar staff should have been attentative to. Consequently, our attempt to entice our friends back to the Boars Head totally failed! Restaurant excellent but chose the Public bar area carefully if you decide to stay for a drink
Had a lovely Saturday evening. Date night with husband. Food was amazing. Husband had the special 15oz steak, said it was the best steak he has ever had (he’s eaten a lot). Food and wine excellent, service excellent. Very welcoming. My favourite place to eat and have drinks.
Faultless service, choice of food, and attention to dietary request. Can't wait to visit again.
my Favourite place to dine
Clean plates all round. That says it all
Although we had a very nice meal and a good night, I personally wasn’t keen on the beer. What a shame you haven’t for Thwaites Bitter on anymore otherwise it would definitely have been a five star rating.
Good food, good staff and welcoming atmosphere
We managed to book online which was so easy, the staff were lovely, the service was excellent and even had a vegetarian roast available. The food was delicious, the Creme Brûlée amazing, overall a lovely experience, we will be returning soon, thank you
Great home cooked pub food
Food and service excellent!
Gorgeous place, food and great service. Such a welcome change from the usual boring chain pubs. Will be going back as soon as I can.
Lovely to just walk down to our local and know we can rely on good food and service.
A good time had by all. Friendly and helpful staff, and food well presented and delicious. .
We visit The Boars Head very often. Always great service, always great/delicious food & always come back for more. Never a disappointment! Plus staff are getting to know the table for 8 each on most Sundays.
