About Boars Head
Welcome to the Boars Head, a 16th century building located in the heart of Hoghton, Lancashire, close to both Preston and Blackburn. We’re a local village pub, situated just a few minutes away from Hoghton Tower, offering a warm welcome with exceptional, friendly service and hearty, locally produced and seasonal food.
Along with its heritage and beautiful timber interior, the Boars Head has timeless appeal and is believed to be one of the final overnight stops of the famous Pendle witches in 1612, before their eventual trials and sentencing at Lancaster.
Establishment was lovely, clean and beautiful. The food was great, starters were tasty and we all opted for the roast for main, this was particular good. Jam roly polys for desert were on the small side, the large plates they were served in dwarfed them and in general service could have been better during the visit. For instance certain requests weren’t followed up and if we wanted a drink we had to go to the bar to order it, although at times there was quite a number of staff behind the bar chatting. Overall great food and nice pub, just needed to be a bit more attentive.
This is literally the best roast I have found! Just amazing. Lovely setting and very friendly staff. Would 100% recommend a visit. My favourite place to go.
Food was excellent and the service was good. It’s a very nice place and would highly recommend
Very nice Sunday lunch we have been a few times the food is always excellent service can sometimes be a little slow but it did not spoil the experience we would recommend to friends and family
Great food great service definitely will return
Visited a number of times , very consistent food & service.
Absolutely fabulous Sunday dinner
Wonderful meal as usual, service was excellent. Food was incredible, in particular the Lamb was cooked to perfection. Everyone couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful.
Not much to say really......excellent as always. Great food, service, atmosphere....always feel welcome and looked after by the staff.
Enjoyed a birthday celebration lunch, food was fabulous, a varied choice given. Lovely clean surroundings and tastefully decorated. Only thing lacking was the meet & greet from the 2 people who seemed to be in charge, although the older lady who served us was lovely and friendly.
Excellent food in pleasant surroundings. Attentive friendly staff
Been many times especially on a for Sunday lunch best roast beef ever, always hot and consistently good.
Enjoyable Sunday afternoon meal and drinks with excellent friendly service. Ran out of Sirloin Steaks though!
When asking for 125ml wine ( which I got) when we asked for the billI I was charged for 175ml. When questioned he just said that's what we have to charge. I have never ever had a restaurant do that as I often ask for a 125ml and get priced accordingly. Also to improve the food I would prefer more vegetables with the mains instead of the token carrot and broccoli. This would make the meal a healthier balance plate.
excellent sunday roast
Had chicken livers off the specials menu and they were as good as I have ever had.
Gorgeous pub. Lucky to have it as my local
Good friendly night out with excellent food
Always great Sunday lunch served
As always, we had a wonderful evening at the Boars Head. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Highly recommended.
The steak pie was a lovely homemade pie packed full of meat. The roast beef Sunday roast was excellent. We will be back soon
Took over 30 mins for food to arrive and was like warm
Excellent food. Best Sunday lunch I have had. That’s why we returned. Special praise for the waiter.
Food of high standard but for the price the portion size was rather small - particularly the lamb rump and the amount of veg this was served with. Friendly service however and we had a very enjoyable evening.
