About Blairs at Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel & Spa
When it comes to dining, Blairs Restaurant boasts a kitchen that does justice to its grand surroundings. The award winning chefs conjure up one winning dish after another, using fresh, local produce and the finest international ingredients.
We booked via Secret Escapes and had a package deal giving us a privilege room + 2 breakfasts & 1 evening dinner + 20% off in the spa In the spa & dining room we could hear staff talking about us as if we were scroungers saying what we were & were not allowed to have It made us feel uncomfortable like 2nd class citizens Not sure what message the management are giving grass roots staff but it came across discriminatory
First time staying here, will definitely be returning. The hotel and staff were first class. Could not fault it.
This truly was the worst afternoon tea I have every had. Myself any my daughter arrived on Sunday 25th of August at 1.50pm for a 2pm booking. This was a very rare girls day out for the two of us, so I wanted to make this special. When booking on the phone, I was advised that you offered a child specific afternoon tea which sounded ideal! Having seen pictures online also, it looked like something my daughter would love- this however was not the case. We were shown to the drawing room and told to take a seat. There was 1 x other table of four in the room, who looked to be finishing up their afternoon tea & would shortly be departing. The waitress took a drinks order, and said she would be back shortly with our platters. When I booked this afternoon tea, I specified the booking was to be 1 x children's platter and 1 x adults. This was confirmed on the phone, via email and also on arrived. 45 minutes later our platter arrived, looking like a very basic afternoon tea. I asked the waitress where the children's platter was, and she informed me the chef had combined the two, and when asked he'd said that the Strawberry Tart was for the child (that's all?!). The 1x sandwich that was on the platter was not enough for two people, even a child and an adult. One sandwich cut in to four fingers, 2 x fingers with a sliver of old looking cheese and two with salmon that smelled like it had been sat out. The corners of the sandwiches were curling, and the bread was hard. Clearly we had been forgotten about in our 45 minute wait. We had a very poor and small selection of cakes, none of which were child friendly (containing the likes of dark chocolate and nuts). One cake had a giant piece of fluff stuck to it also. I looked over at the other afternoon tea, and the table who had been in when we first arrived had much better looking cakes and a wider selection than we had been given. I also didn't appreciate having to ask for Tea with our afternoon tea, ask for plates, cutlery and spoons. We left within 10 minutes of receiving the platter, and did explain how unhappy we were to the waitress. However I understand this isn't her fault, especially as she seemed to be on her own covering the bar, small restaurant within the bar and the afternoon tea area. Working within the catering industry myself and having worked in hospitality for many years, Ardoe was somewhere that I thought would most definitely have higher standards. I have explained my disappointment to colleagues and all are shocked that such a well known establishment could serve something as low standard as we received.
Put in a dog friendly room which smelled of the previous guest's dog. We had no dog. Unable to sit outside because of the wasps, food excellent, bar service poor, restaurant service very good.
Wonderful food, fabulous staff, beautiful setting. Will definitely be back
Friendly professional service Nothing too much for the staff Delicious afternoon tea selection.
Third visit here. We were kept waiting at reception to check-in. During this time, a newly married couple were piped by us. It felt awkward. Reception staff friendly. Room perfect. During meal we weren't served bread. Dirty wine glass. Cutlery wasn't replaced for main course arriving. Bar staff in Soapies friendly and efficient. Room service great. Breakfast great too. No shower gel in the male showers at the spa or bags to put wet costumes after using spin dryer. Small attention to detail let it down but would come back.
The room was lovely. Very spacious with a huge bed. The food was Ok. Good cheeseboard. Waited a while for the dessert menu but the staff were very nice.
Pretty good experience . Food nice except the Dark Chocolate desert . It looked like a dogs dinner , very messy and not sure what it consisted off !
Staff fantastic and make you feel very welcome. Food to die for and massage was the icing on the cake. First class and will definitely return in the near future. Hats off to Elena our waitress who was awesome also!! Thankyou everyone for such a fab night and making the stay one to remember!
Really good impressive hotel, with very good, able staff, who looked after us well
Overpriced pretty ordinary food
Staff were very efficient even though it was very busy. Food was delicious and atmosphere was really good with soothing music in background at right level to still allow us to chat.
Booked Blairs for our daughter’s graduation meal as it states on website a gluten free menu, 3 of our party of 9 are Coeliac. When seated for dinner we asked for gluten free menu to be told they do not have one but could advise us, bit disappointed but went ahead. Starters were delicious. My daughter’s main course arrived , beef cheeks, she noticed item and questioned if it was GF, oh no, it was taken away and replaced. We were told all of this was GF.Dessert menu arrived only GF option was a brownie , ice cream or sorbet. For a restaurant of this calibre I would have expected better, we can have a GF brownie in any cafe. In the end there were no brownies left and daughter very disappointed did not want ice-cream. This was a special occasion and at time of booking dietary requirements were noted. On a positive note service provided by Elena was exceptional .
Most of the meal was good however I got the rack of lamb and I was unable to even cut it with my knife i mentioned this to the waitress and she apologised but nothing else was done about. Also to ask someone if they want water and charge £5 for it is appalling!
Service was excellent and we were made to feel welcome from arrival to departure. The staff were delightful! The afternoon tea was lovely but I cannot comment on the price as I used a voucher. The cost of nearly £12 for 3 additional coffees was a little higher than I expected therefore less than 5 stars on price.
We were very well taken care of and the food was lovely will definitely be coming back again
Brilliant food, friendly staff and fantastic experience. Very highly recommended.
Food was delicious and service was very good.
Fantastic restaurant. Great staff. Great food. Definitely recommend this place.
Had an excellent time. Cannot fault anything. Loved every minute. Will definitely be back again.
Lovely decor and good srvice😀
Had a lovely meal, food and service both excellent, would recommend the chef's signature lamb dish and the haggis fritters for anyone to try
It's the 2nd afternoon tea I have had there is 2 months and both were fantastic. The staff are lovely and helpful. Price is competitive. Only improvement is that putting a gluten free afternoon tea on the same tray as the gluten food could spell disaster.
Amazing food and lovely staff, chatty but not intrusive. The only negative through dining experience was the request for a soft drink that had to be repeated and when it did arrive we had to pour out the melted ice water before pouring the drink. Nothing to do with the food at all - it truly was delicious!!
