About Black Knight Restaurant at Lumley Castle Hotel
The elegant setting and superb food on offer in our award winning Black Knight Restaurant make it a popular choice for diners from far and wide. Subtle lighting, lavish furnishings, unobtrusive yet attentive service makes the Black Knight Restaurant truly memorable. Our menu offers classical dishes with an original twist. Diners can choose from our A la Carte menu and enjoy an extensive selection of fine wines to complement your meal.
Could have been a little cheaper, but overall very good
We had a lovely day out for my sister's birthday. Good service but scones were a bit dry.
Fantastic castle.. food, service , atmosphere all first class ...will be back soon
Lovely Sunday lunch, good service although we were over charged but were refunded with no problems. great atmosphere and we will come back.
had our civil partnership at the castle some 9 years ago, returned to the castle for the first time since then. While the setting is beautiful, and impressive, the service in the restaurant, was so slow we left without waiting for dessert. We were so disappointed, we have subsequently, cancelled a nights stay in the hotel booked in December.
Small portions, slow service, waited an hour for 2nd course when we ordered before we went in Waited ages to be asked for our drinks order Had to approach staff for the bill as we were ignored
When we booked our afternoon tea I left a lot of information on the booking form regarding dietary requirements. Unfortunately none of these had been passed on and I had to explain it again which was very disappointing. Only one member of staff to serve drinks, clear up and run backwards and forwards for meals. We felt there should have been another person to help out as the place was fairly busy. Food and drinks were good but not exceptional. Scones were excellent and would have eaten a plateful of them.
Myself and my guests had an unbelievable experience. The food and the service were second to none. I would recommend the Black Knight restaurant to everyone. I will definitely return. Thank you so much for an unforgettable evening.
The choice of 'large plate' on the menu implies more than the tiny amount of food provided. The menu is far from 'Fine Dining' so the portion size should be more in keeping with an artisan service. The approach to the restaurant with a wheelchair was fraught with difficulty because the paths are uneven and too narrow. The ambience was pretentious rather than memorable.
We had afternoon tea at the Castle followed by drinks in the library bar .We had a very enjoyable time and would recommend it. The service was excellent.
Afternoon tea was one of the best i have had really enjoyed it..would absolutely go back again.
My wife and I were given a gift voucher for our 40th wedding anniversary to have after noon tea. When I booked for after noon tea I told the person the I had a gift voucher, and was told that's fine. On arrival we went to the Black Night restaurant, we were told to Waite and someone would come and see to us. after a few moments a waitress went to the computer on the other side of the room and said name and have you a coupon I said no we have a gift voucher. She them gestured this way with her head. We followed her to a table that was not set and said I'll be back. (there were about 8 tables that were set) She came back and set!!! the table (no flowers or napkins) all the other tables had flowers and napkins and were nicely set out. The waitress then said after noon tea and left, about 10mins later appeared with tray of sandwiches, scones and deserts. I had to call her back and ask for a ted and a coffee she left and returned with the tea and coffee. As other people arrived they were shown to a table that was pre set. Most other guests seem to have, ' it is on' or group on vouchers.(perhaps this made the difference to receive a much better standard of service)? We were so disappointed with the service and standard of the Black Night restaurant it used to pride its self as on of the most elegant and exclusive venues in the north east. alas not any more. A REAL DISAPOINTMENT.
We had a lovely time and the staff was wonderful. We highly recommend dinner at the Black Knight.
The lovely lady serving in the Black Night Restaurant made our visit so special for our Afternoon Tea Visit on Bank Holiday Monday ... Will be back ..thank you x
Exceptional service and food.
The food was good, the service, and the friendliness and kindness of the staff, was very much appreciated.
This was a treat for my birthday and I was not disappointed. The food and atmosphere were fabulous and the staff friendly with good service. I look forward to returning.
Service was appalling. 20mins after being seated I had to ask if we could order drinks. Most of the drinks came about 10minutes later. They then came and took our order, I had to ask again for the missing drinks. The starters came and were delicious, although overpriced but I suppose you’re paying for the atmosphere (there was a guitar player on). After we’d finished and sat for 30mins I had to ask for our plates to be cleared and for then to check on our mains as we had booked the escape room for 10pm and it was now 940. Mains came, we wolfed them down and made it to the escape room just a little late. No time for pudding or coffee. What could have been a lovely meal, just turned out to be a rushed and hassled affair. There was plenty of staff on, they just seems to be stood around rather than working. Allowing two hours for a meal, and telling the restaurant when booking and when we arrived that we had booked the escape room for 10pm - was disappointing that the evening was spoilt by the service. Escape room on the other hand was absolutely amazing -thoroughly recommend that!
Excellent food in incredible surroundings. Impressed by vegetarian choices.
Special experience. Great food. Amazing service. Felt very comfortable. Would highly recommend.
As always the bar and restaurant are second to none for atmosphere, but on this occasion we did not feel the menu offerings were as attractive or interesting as usual especially the main courses. Having said that, once we had the Haddock Chowder reheated it was excellent.
We had a lovely 3 day visit to Lumley Castle including breakfast and dinner in the Black Knight Restaurant.
Nice and good quality food, friendly environment and great service.
Dinner was absolutely devine, can not wait to come back!
