About Black Knight Restaurant at Lumley Castle Hotel
The elegant setting and superb food on offer in our award winning Black Knight Restaurant make it a popular choice for diners from far and wide. Subtle lighting, lavish furnishings, unobtrusive yet attentive service makes the Black Knight Restaurant truly memorable. Our menu offers classical dishes with an original twist. Diners can choose from our A la Carte menu and enjoy an extensive selection of fine wines to complement your meal.
Excellent food served by two lovely friendly waitresses. Would not hesitate to return.
Poor vegetarian choices
Disappointed by vegetarian sandwiches as were provided with just two types of filling. The avocado filling had turned dark brown in a couple of the sandwiches which suggested they had not been made fresh. Selection of cakes were pleasant as was the surroundings. I was bought this afternoon tea as a present and expected this experience to be better coming from Lumley Castle.
Disappointed. Room was cold with one radiator not working effectively. After receiving the beverages and sandwiches the staff did not reappear to check all was ok. As example we wanted more tea and hot water but were offered none. Basic minimal experience and service not what we expected.
Excellent scones!! Staff were a bit sparce at times but it was busy!! Thoroughly enjoyed it
Beautiful setting, good food and excellent service. Scones in particular were really yummy.
Menu was much reduced from what we had encountered before. The belly pork did not taste nice and I have never come across anyone who has ruined belly pork. However the decor and dining room has a nice atmosphere even though the staff are not in traditional costume.
a very cosy and enjoyable lunch.will come again !
We had an enjoyable lunch meal and drinks to celebrate a birthday. Friendly service and the food was good. The only negative was the drinks prices. £8.10p for a large wine with a splash of Soda water. 75p for the splash! £5.45p for a pint of Guiness.
We ordered 2 afternoon teas, 1 regular and 1 vegetarian. The sandwiches on the regular were fine if not a bit basic but the avocado sandwich on the veggie one was overly salty. The scones were nice and fresh but 2 fruit scones each is too much, maybe 1 fruit and 1 cheese would be better. The most disappointing thin on both afternoon teas were the little cakes and pastries.. all were very bland and many had absolutely no specific flavour other than plain cream. The filled choux pastry on the regular tea was filled with a pink cream that was so subtly flavoured neither of us could distinguish what the flavour was. The same can be said for the small tart which was topped with oats.. this seemed to be plain whipped cream and was very bland. The cakes in this afternoon tea need a complete overhaul with more flavours being used in every item. Would not return based on this experience.
Spoiled for choice with the menu, will have to return to try other dishes. Very good value. Definitely a bit special.
We love coming here for Sunday Lunch great service and fabulous food always find room cold we do understand it is an old building but we sat next to a heater and asked if it could be put on but were told it was on a timer so we had to sit with our coats on throughout the meal
Absolutely lovely afternoon tea and food in general. Service was just as spectacular, we had a 7 month old baby with us and the staff could not do enough for us. The venue is just incredible and it has not changed since we got married here in August 2015. I Would definitely recommend!
Almost didn’t get our afternoon tea as they weren’t supposed to serve until 2:30pm.. service wasn’t the best, was asked once if everything was ok but everyone else around us was asked quite a few times. Felt a little rushed.
Was my special birthday 70th and lunch at the castle was something special too thank you
Fantastic staff, nothing was too much trouble. Just a shame bottles of wine are so expensive!
Great as always
Very impressed by the whole dining experience and the lovely tables and ambience in the black knight restaurant. The staff were very courteous and helpful and the service was excellent.
From arrival to departing we were virtually ignored throughout our visit by staff who seemed to have tunnel vision towards certain tables. We couldn't get their attention at all, they never looked round to see if anyone wanted anything and at one point I had to get up from eating my main course to ask where my wife sauce was that was missing. No drink arrived that was ordered and no one checked how our food was at all. I was even given a bread roll with my starter from a waiter carrying it with tongs, not from a bread basket so I could chose! We we not even asked if we wanted desert or coffee so after two painful hours decided to leave. It took forever to get a starter and main, so no way were we waiting another 2 hours for anything else. It was my wife 50th Birthday we were celebrating and we were so disappointed, it spoiled the end of what had been a lovely day for her and should have ended the same.We had our wedding reception here as well as other celebrations over the years but sadly won't be back. Not what we expected and certainly not worth the money.
My Mam and myself enjoyed everything about our afternoon tea. We will most definitely be returning!
We had breakfast and dinner for 2 days and found the food and service was excellent. Blondine (hope this is the correct spelling) was excellent, very attentive and friendly. Throughout our stay we found all the staff very friendly and helpful.
After my wedding here a few weeks ago I had to return to this fantastic hotel to sample the afternoon tea for my mum's special birthday, again this was absolutely fab. We arrived early to have another look around and had a few drinks in the Library Bar which was lovely. The staff are so friendly and helpful and nothing is a problem. I can't wait to return to in the future.
Beautiful place , regular since our wedding in 2014
Fantastic food and venue
