About Black Knight Restaurant at Lumley Castle Hotel
The elegant setting and superb food on offer in our award winning Black Knight Restaurant make it a popular choice for diners from far and wide. Subtle lighting, lavish furnishings, unobtrusive yet attentive service makes the Black Knight Restaurant truly memorable. Our menu offers classical dishes with an original twist. Diners can choose from our A la Carte menu and enjoy an extensive selection of fine wines to complement your meal.
Beautiful setting, great restaurant manager & staff. Great food.
No background music on ..that's the only downside My friend and I always take advantage of offers and recommend to friends and relatives
We had the most gorgeous afternoon tea, everything was beautifully fresh & presentation was lovely. Three of us receive a voucher every year as a Christmas present & always look forward to it. Roll on next year!
we had a great stay in a lovely hotel, the service was fab but the food was very underwhelming, we often stay at coombe abbey and the food is amazing we were very very dissapointed
Really enjoyed afternoon tea here for my birthday treat with my two children. They loved the fact there were open fires and books and we were in a real castle. Unfortunately the request I had put in (vegetarian and the fact there were 3 of us) hadn't been passed on but the waitresses were really helpful and accommodating, and gave us extra milk when asked. The cakes and sandwiches were delicious too. Thank you!
A very enjoyable Sunday lunch, staff pleasant and a great venue
Food and service were perfect. My mum found being next to the window too draughty, but there was no problem in moving. I did think it was a bit pricey, but it was a special occasion.
The afternoon tea was excellent, the young lady that was serving was also excellent, she was very attentive asking if we were OK and if there was anything else we would like, but at the same time left us alone to enjoy our time at Lumley castle, an asset to Lumley castle. Would I recommend the afternoon tea there? Yes 100%
We stayed for Sunday lunch and the next morning breakfast . Sunday lunch was 3 courses absolutely beautiful and plentiful we opted for a cheese board rather than dessert a great selection of cheese , biscuits fruit and chutney , the desserts from what I could see looked beautiful too . Breakfast the next morning we had the big ralph aka full English fresh ingredients no grease delightful . Excellent range of fruit , juices cereals cheeses and meats . Service from the restaurant was great would definitely recommend and will definitely return .
Parking was a problem. We were directed to park on the road along the right hand side of the castle but then it was quite a walk for my husband who has poor mobility.
Amazing experience all round. Food was fantastic, service attentive and the Spanish guitar player was the icing on the cake. Well done.
Disappointing birthday dinner whilst staying at castle - fell far short of expectations I had booked a table at the Black Knight as part of the birthday celebration for my partner whilst we were staying overnight at the castle but it was sadly disappointing. Like most people, I expect a smart casual dress code for dinner at such a restaurant (and in fact were reassuringly advised by a porter that this was the case) but we saw people in torn jeans, t-shirts and trainers! The Maitre d' was as surly as most generally are and once he found that we weren't ordering expensive drinks (I cannot drink for medical reasons and my partner has never drank), it felt like he lost all interest in us and never spoke to us again. Our food was just okay - nothing special - and not worth the pretentious prices. Staff were clearly disinterested - at NO point did anyone ask if our meal was okay or whether we needed anything - but it did seem that they were very attentive to those who were ordering bottles of wine. My best advice would be to either have something from the Room Service menu or dine elsewhere.
relaxing lunch in a relaxing atmosphere.
The atmosphere could have been improved with a wider selection of taped music. The John Williams (?) CD , lovely as it was, came around some four times and we found ourselves humming along with the Deerhunter theme throughout our four hours journey home. Otherwise, a wonderful evening.
Didn’t give good directions to tell us where we were. On the email gave us Black Knight Restaurant which it was not in. We have been here numerous times and always in that restaurant. Didn’t give clear notification it would not be in there. Don’t know if I would come back
had a lovely afternoon, staff were very attentive, food was delicious, and what a beautiful place, we will back
Lovely service and ambience - a little mean on the size of the cakes and the food and presentation doesn't seem to have changed at all in the three years I've been going. Can't fault the castle though.
I booked afternoon tea at Lumley Castle as birthday present for my mum. It was a perfect afternoon and we will definitely book it again.
5 star .I could never fault the Black Night Restaurant beautiful as usual.
We stayed and ate in Black Knight Restaurant last year, we enjoyed it so much we done the same this year and will be doing it again next year.
We had a Really top draw Sunday lunch, fantastic quality beautifully served in resplendent surroundings. A great experience, have recommended to friends and even our taxi driver on our way home. Thank you all fabulous *****
Having celebrated a special birthday 10 years ago we were very excited to choose Lumley Castle again to celebrate another big milestone. We were very disappointed to see that standards had fallen. The starters were more like tasters and were not unique enough to warrant fine dining. The main 'signature' dish was extremely disappointing. Lots of flavour in the fillet but otherwise disappointing. We wont be visiting again
Beautiful place and surroundings. Very efficient service and although my mam had a hair in her food it was dealt with discreetly and professionally and a new meal provided. Will definitely return.
Lovely place to eat .
