About Knights Restaurant at Lumley Castle Hotel
The elegant setting and superb food on offer in our award winning Black Knight Restaurant make it a popular choice for diners from far and wide. Subtle lighting, lavish furnishings, unobtrusive yet attentive service makes the Black Knight Restaurant truly memorable. Our menu offers classical dishes with an original twist. Diners can choose from our A la Carte menu and enjoy an extensive selection of fine wines to complement your meal.
Me and my wife enjoyed our stay. I would have liked to have known there would be a reduced menu, although I understand why. I also thought the price of the bottled beer was quite expensive. But overall the service was very good
I can`t give you a value for money because we were given a gift voucher for our golden wedding anniversary for the afternoon tea. It was our first time at Lumley Castle Hotel and a great experience. I would definitely come back. It looks like I can`t move on with this review without the value for money stars so i`ve given you five but only because it would be unfair to do anything else.
Was lovely just to get away from everything what is going on in the world at the moment, felt relaxed, chilled and the lady was extremely helpful, nice, nothing we asked her was a effort.
I love the setting but our waitress did nothing to really make us feel special. I had brought visitors from Mexico for a birthday treat. I had expected the staff to be in old costumes too. There seemed less food from my previous visit about a year ago. Nice but I felt disappointed as I wanted something really special.
Everything was superb; so good that we bought a voucher as a gift for my daughter as we left.
Every time I go I have a great experience. The food is fantastic the venue is brilliant and the service is fantastic.
Had lamb...so chewy just couldn't eat it. Daughter had beef which was just 'ok'. Veg was nice and plates were hot which was a plus. Manager didn't charge for my meal but as I had a gift voucher I am now left with £9 credit...won't be hurrying back to use it.!
The quality of the food was excellent, as was the presentation. There is always a delay in service when items are cooked individually, it is to be expected, but the dishes we had were worth the wait. The service was very courteous and very friendly but somewhat over elaborate when it took 3 members of staff to serve a dish to the table. In the evenings we ate at the restaurant the lighting was so dim that I had to use a torch on my phone to read the menu, even with reading glasses on. There was no such problem at breakfast when the curtains were open to let in daylight. We found the items to be at the upper end of our price range and we were thankful that we were entitled to a 15% discount having made bookings prior to our arrival.
Food was well cooked and presented, but.....very small portions and "sides" were expensive for what you got. Service was excellent throughout.
When I booked afternoon tea I didn’t realise that they didn’t start until after 2pm so booked in for the restaurant without realising. But that wasn’t a problem and they provided afternoon tea which was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend the champagne afternoon tea!
Enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend
Excellent service. Food is of very high quality. Would definitely recommend having a meal here. The venison was delicious!
Nice time, food good. Restaurant was cold and seats were uncomfortable. Service was great and staff were very good and helpful as well.
The food was delicious. The experience of dining in a castle was fantastic. The restaurant could have been a little warmer
Food good. Only one girl on who did her best but was rushed off her feet!! Also it was cold, radiator next to us was off and as it was a cold day it just wasn’t comfortable, nearly put my coat back on!!
Hotel room and stay amazing unfortunately afternoon tea was very disappointing. We booked a day or 2 before arriving but where not expected, waitress/front of house lady said somebody must have taken out reservation? For £17.95 we got one round of bread cut into 4 fingers, a small scone with jam and cream a macron, a cheesecake tartlet the size of a Rolo and a some kind of chocolate and mango mousse. I could have probably made at home for about £2/£3. We have had many afternoon teas in other places where we have had to take cakes home due to the amount of food and have always had salad, coleslaw, crisps and sausage rolls. On check out I was not charged for the Afternoon Tea but being honest as I am i got them to add it to the bill and they did a 2 for £35 offer. Overall I would stay at Lumley again but will never eat in the restaurant at current prices and quality.
The food was ok. The cakes could have been a bit more exciting. We were offered a tea refill but no new tea bag’s were put in. Once we were finished and just enjoying the venue we were asked if we wanted more tea, again water was just added to the original two teabags! Not one of the best afternoon teas we have ever had.
Food was wonderful but rather chaotic but cheerful service by trainee waitress ... drinks taking 20 mins then coming twice complementary bread arriving after mains All put right by more senior waitress Rather Fawlty Towers but not what I am sure you intended Atmosphere a little down due to rather small/ tight chairs in bar
Food was lovely. Only gripe was that too many visits were made to the table whilst eating. There were several members of staff trying to serve and it felt a little too much. Otherwise, very friendly
We thought that the restaurant at Lumley Castle was Superb! Fantastic food with great service Can’t wait to return The Jackson family Leek Staffordshire
The experience was not bad, but it would have been nice if more care was taken in the food preparation. I think you would like to set high standards and that is why I am comparing the quality of the afternoon tea to Bettys in Harrogate and Ilkley. It doesn’t look good if the afternoon tea comes with a tea bag. The service was good but not as good as the ambience - the castle of course is great. However, I suspect that over the long term, food quality and attention to detail is more important than the ambience, so a bit more focus there would be great.
Amazing ambiance, the food was fabulous and staff were pleasant and attentive I would go again x
I felt professionally mugged. We were kept waiting close to a hour for our first course when it arrived it was just warm and of very small portions compared to the very large cost of the meal. The only good thing of the evening was your very pleasant staff . We would use your hotel again but would eat and drink elsewhere.
Had a fantastic afternoon tea , I was a group of seven so they gave us our own room , the food was fantastic value for money and delicious, drink was rather pricey but u do expect that from a hotel , cant wait for my next visit x
