Cooking over fire is a primitive technique that lets our top quality ingredients speak for themselves, leaving you with a newfound appreciation for British cuisine.
Great service by all of the team that looked after us on Saturday! We had a great time and the food was lovely - would highly recommend the afternoon tea and the venue is beautiful
Staff were brilliant! Food was amazing! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a lovely afternoon
Good food & excellent service
Afternoon tea was standard, I had heard great reviews so was expecting it to be of higher standard and did not feel that it was worth what we paid.
Sunday Lunch was delicious but there wasn't enough vegetables served with the meal. I hope they take this comment on board.
Sunday lunch was disappointing, roast potatoes were hard and tasted as if they had been frozen. The cauliflower cheese side was nice as was the slither if lemon tart I had for desert, but not worth the £6 it cost. On the plus side the wine was nice.
We had an amazing brunch @ Winstanley House. Dud not fisappoint at all...I recommend the steak and eggs..lovely.
Food always fabulous, service, and particularly with Sam, always second to none, one of my favourite places in Leicester for a gastronomic treat!
Initially had problems with booking due to a mix up at reception Regarding the party menu ! But once I spoke to Tom the restaurant supervisor and explained the situation he assured me that the original menu would be hono On arrival at the restaurant We were treated like honoured guests it was an amazing Evening , Thank you to Tom and his manager for taking the time to put the situation right 💕💕
The afternoon tea to celebrate our sister’s 60th birthday was a lovely event and met our expectations. The food was excellent and we were able to take home a few leftovers. Our only slight disappointment was not having the full Yvonne Ellen tea set as advertised in your menu as you had run out of many pieces. I do expect a china teacup at afternoon tea. But it didn’t spoil our lovely day and thank you to the staff who were very friendly and obliging. We would definitely recommend the afternoon tea at the Black Iron restaurant.
Great food Great service Lovely place
Thank you so much, We look forward to seeing you again soon. Kind regards Black Iron Management
We enjoyed a nice meal with good service.
thank you so much. We are so glad you enjoyed your meal and look forward to seeing you again soon. Kind Regards Black Iron Management
Lovely afternoon tea. One comment I would make is, the scones were rather large and so filling. Smaller scones perhaps?
The service was excellent and the afternoon tea was beautiful with a few minor issues. We found a hair in the middle of the cheese scone! This was dealt with swiftly . It would be nice to have the scones warm with butter as an option. The beautiful china was water stained and would benefit from a tea towel wipe. I know this is very picky and I would return to Winstanley as it was a lovely experience overall.
Thank you so much for your feed back. We are sorry to hear about the few issue you had and are so happy it was rectified straight away, your comments will be past on the relevant people in the restaurant. If you would like to discuss this further please feel free to email us at [email protected] We are also so happy that you would like to return and it would be lovely to have you back. Thank you again. Kind regards Black Iron Management
Food was lovely, as were the staff. The only thing about this booking which wasn't ideal was the automated booking system. I had booked a small group of 10 in for a surprise a la carte meal for a 60th Wedding Anniversary and the booking system sent numerous e-mails saying I had to pre-book the meals, in spite of the fact that I had agreed with the restaurant staff to the contrary. I kept wondering if my booking would be okay when I turned up on the day. As it was, all went well and the staff were more than able to cater for the small booking at a lunch time without pre-orders. Everyone enjoyed it very much. Thanks to the staff for their help.
Everything was great!
Always an excellent dining experience. Shame the bar isn’t bigger as it would be nice to sit and have a drink after our meal But usually bar very busy and seating limited.
Took friends for a birthday treat and they loved it. Food was fabulous and great service too.
A very poor offering of Vegetarian and Vegan (non existent!) food, considering they aspire to be ‘the place’ to eat and be seen! And annoyingly, whilst waitresses were friendly....I don’t like being anybody’s “darling” or “Sweetheart” for that matter. A little too familiar for the surroundings and for my taste. We will be monitoring the menu, and more importantly the response to our comments before considering our return. We love eating out, and we spend ‘good money’ on doing so, but there’s a little more finesse required at Winstanley House to make this our favourite venue!
Thank you for your feed back. Its nice to see we managed to impress you with a friendly waitress Its a shame to see the negatives. As a restaurant operating in 2019 we are very aware of the high demand for vegetarian/vegan dishes. we make no attempt to hide the fact we are a British restaurant with our staple dish being our award winning steak, cooked to perfection over charcoal in our centre piece 'big bertha' cast black iron oven. We also give every diner the opportunity to study our menu before arrival via our website. This is updated every 3 months for the A la Carte menu with seasonal changes. and every month for our express menu. At the bottom of our menu we provide information on our dishes. The information shows where meals are vegetarian and also where we can adapt our dishes to be vegan, these are scattered throughout our menu. We have a large selection of side dishes that can also be adapted to create a vegan main course, that is if the vegan adaptable dishes do not suit the diners taste. In regards to the over friendly waitress using terms such as 'Darling' or 'Sweetheart' I can only apologise. no single guest we have dine with us is the same and our team are trained to show their personality at the table. I would also like to say we do not aspire to be 'the place to eat and be seen'. We aspire to source the best local ingredients, cooked with passion and respect, delivering this in a relaxed, fun and beautiful environment. Thank you for taking the time to come and give us a try and leaving your feedback. I hope this information has proved helpful in regards to where you may find information regarding vegetarian and vegan dishes on our menu. Kind regards Black Iron Management
We came for champagne tea ,champagne was lovely the tea not enough sandwiches to many cakes and scones ,the lady that severed us was lovely but very slow and there was only 3 tables having tea ,love the hotel though and will definitely come for an evening meal heard very good reports
Great food and great service as usual. Drinks can be a bit pricey. A colleague ordered a glass of wine and it cost £15! I would suggest that if it costs that much that you mention the cost at the time. He didn’t look at the menu at time of ordering so wouldn’t have known the price
Been here several times for lunch, Afternoon Tea and Dinner. On all occasions the service has been excellent and the food has been top quality. I will be back.
I think fresh cream would be much better with the scones rather than butter
