About Bistrot Verite
Description brought to you by Manchester Confidential:
Brittany-influenced bistro with a penchant for poisson
Brassy flavours meet seaside standards at this Gallic enclave in the heart of Merseyside’s tourist belt. Marc Verite, son of a patisserie owner, has been cooking here with his wife since 2009 following stints in Belgium. The menu changes regularly but supper could include soupe de poisson, Salade Perigourdain (smoked duck, Crispy Leg Fritter, Fois Gras & walnuts) or classic moules followed by rib eye au poivre and frites. Other typical combinations include Goosnargh duck breast with cherries and pistachios or fricassee of veal kidneys with wild mushrooms, sherry and cream. Finish off with simple treats; cherry amaretto crepes, for example, pistachio ice cream or a melting chocolate and orange pudding. Cheese boards come in three sizes: small, large or ‘all’ and the mostly French wine list is joined by occasion bottles from New Zealand or Italy. As in France, rose offers good value while décor includes candles and red banquette seating.
